Main reason we lost
I hate to say this but the biggest reason we lost this game, is that they are the better team. It's as simple as that. At least when they line up against us, they are the better team. We could have come out with a win but if we did, we would have been fortunate to do so. As far as I can tell, the Rams played a good game and they played their hearts out. They just out physical us on both lines and we have no answer.

They are far more physical-very confident against us and they're style just matches up well against our weakness. That said our defense playing soft coverage is the true killer for beating the 49ers-you have a QB who cannot throw down the field and wants to get rid of the ball quickly to avoid the pass rush and yet you are sitting back allowing them to complete easy ten yard passes and then can't tackle their WR's.

I think the Rams are the better team...it's just that the 49ers match up better.
Sort of like the way the Rams beat up on Seattle under Fisher. The Hags were still the better team.

Re: Main reason we lost
What does the inability of the Rams OL and DL to be physical have to do with McVay? He's not out there playing. Lets face it our OL is just not very good. The Tackles are OK but the interior of the line G/C are trash. Even when the Rams were up 17-0 they could not muster a running attack. Sony Michel had like 8 yards on 8 carries in the first half.
On defense the Rams inside LB's were not great to begin with and without Ernest Jones it just made things worst. Greg Gaines who was playing really well at NT was hampered by a broken Hand. Von Miller and Leonard Floyd were the worst offenders. They could not get a consistent pass rush on Garofalo against back up Tackles.

What 1:37 left on the clock with no timeouts, down by 7, a QB with a torn throwing thumb, and 2 back up OT and it took them 5 plays and one minute to go 89 yards and score a TD………….
If I’m not mistaken there were some rather well known players on the Ram’s defense on that last drive………….
Some of us saw how we actually lost the game even with a BS performance from the OL…………..

With as badly as the Oline played for most of the game, our defense was the huge letdown in the second half. Then letting them go 80-plus yards as easily as they did with a minute and a half to go with no timeouts and then a wide-open receiver for the TD was just incredible. I've seen very few NFL defenses look that helpless.

Yeah big shock that we disagree.DMRamFan wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 10:30 am I have to disagree Rammer... (bet you are surprised coming from me that we disagree here...lol).
But I think we are the better team.
Rams did all the right things in the first half. Then we did all the wrong things in the second half.
For whatever reason, we seem to just brain fart when we play them. If we had our heads on straight, could of made proper adjustments like they did w us... we would have won that game.
Cant win games when you let a team rush 9 straight times then toss a trick play TD. That was just pure D garbage play. Also cant win throwing pics either very much.
This game yesterday - it was the 9 straight rushes that they couldn't stop that set up the trick play. Stafford is who he is. He played as good yesterday, as he always does. The pics come from pass rush and forcing the ball. If we could have run the ball better and the defense was on their heels, we wouldn't have had these pics.
So no. I don't think it was brain fart. they played ok. I actually don't think we had one of those brain fart games this year. It's brain fart when you lose to Detroit when nothing goes right. Dropped passes, penalties, mistakes, but otherwise control the game. ... The Rams have actually been remarkably consistent this year. Probably, the most consistent team in the league. Every game they lost -they lost because were beaten - it was always to a better team. Tennessee, SF twice , Green Bay, Ari. Arizona was better earlier in the year but ok this team is our equal. - we can beat half the time and that's what we did.
So, I think we see the ceiling of this team. If we make it to the later rounds against a Green Bay or a team like that - winning is going to be from big individual plays, turnovers and maybe we catching them on a bad day when they make a lot of mistakes. Maybe Kupp makes a big catch late in the game and we steal it. But we aren't going to dominate, especially against the more physical teams. We just don't have the people to do it.

He's intimidated by Kyle Shanahan, which translates into his players being intimidated by the 49ers.
Even when up by 17-0, the Rams 'played scared' at the end of the first half, then continued doing so for the entire second half.

Re: Main reason we lost
If the NFC West consisted of Rams #1, Rams #2, Rams #3 (all coached by Sean McVay or one of his clones) and 49ers, then the 49ers could arguably be the division's best team with a 6-0 divisional record.SoCalRam78 wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 10:25 am
Niners are prob they best team in the division, they're 7-2 in their last 9. Beat us twice.
Otherwise though, it's between the Cardinals and Rams, if our team would've consistently played hard to defeat the 49ers twice this season, it would now be 14-3 and enjoying the NFC's only 'wild card' bye... ;) :?

Got to disagree they beat us yesterday when in most probable circumstances we win. I am not saying we are better I am saying we are on par with them.

Sorry, but we were the better team in the 1st quarter by far, what happened after that, McVay needs to take a long look in the mirror and figure out what happened, both the offense and defense flat out laid down and could not respond. Playing Ackers in the first half was ridiculous, Michel should have stayed right where he has been the last several games. You just don't make a move like that in a game of this magnitude.Rammer wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 10:06 am I hate to say this but the biggest reason we lost this game, is that they are the better team. Re: Main reason we lost
Rams had a chance to blow out the niners.
To me, one play changed the whole dimension of the game.
On 3rd and one at the end of the first half, Rams run a play with an empty backfield.
This allowed the niner Dline to pin their ears back.
Gave them confidence, and Rams lost theirs.
Even if Rams plan to pass on the play, the empty backfield was a big mistake.
To me main reason for the loss was that play.

49ers are NOT the better team. They went 2-4 in the division. Jimmy Crappolo sux when he is not playing the Rams.

Re: Main reason we lost
Tell me when does the better team ever blow 17 point lead? How often does that happen? Our offense and defense didn't lay down. They kept playing hard. They got wore down as the game went on.29TheBest wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:27 amSorry, but we were the better team in the 1st quarter by far, what happened after that, McVay needs to take a long look in the mirror and figure out what happened, both the offense and defense flat out laid down and could not respond. The Rams lost for the oldest reason in the book:
They could not control the line of scrimmage. It's not that SF is the better team- LA has more talent but Shanahan deploys his better creating the difference.
We couldn't run the ball. And empty sets, WHY after the recent success of heavy packages would you go to that?
McVay acts like a rookie when he plays against some of the smarter coaches. He's a very good coach in a short amount of time but he has to grow to become a great one.

And other then a spike the other 4 plays were pass plays………
And their two premier pass rushers that the entire world knows couldn’t get to the niner QB while both being blocked by back up offensive tackles…………
But hey it was the offense, and the offensive play caller, and the QB………….

I agree. They match up well against the Rams. Any physical team does. Even the Ravens, who were pretty short-handed again, gave them problems. Still, Rams need to find the play calling or the intestinal fortitude to beat them. Two losses a year count against us and will keep us from higher seeding going forward.

Re: Main reason we lost
Yes, they do match up well against the Rams. They do play a style of football that is very tough for the Rams. But if the Rams were really the better team, then they would be able to find a way to over come this. Instead, the same thing keeps happening, the same way -- I feel like I am watching the same game every time and we can't stop it. This makes SF the better team.HIhorns wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 10:14 amI agree. They match up well against the Rams. Any physical team does. Re: Main reason we lost
Bottom line my Ram brothers & sisters, Our coach has gone Hollywood and for some reason he feels he is smarter then every coach that has ever walked an NFL sidelines! The talent from team to team is very equal. What really makes the difference is 1. Coaching 2. Attitude 3. Emotion 4. Momentum! One dump ass play can change the whole dynamics of a game. Smart coaching understands that.. Arrogant coaching doesn't. Case in point:
What the hell is Mcvay calling a spread shotgun formation and our brainless superstar QB taking a deep drop on a 3rd & inches at the end of 1st half , while taking a sack?
Too damn cute! That is what changed the whole game! We had the 49's on the ropes, we punched them in the mouth! Why in the hell we didnt finish them off with a roundhouse?
Seems to me Mcvay seems to always come up with the most idiotic play ant the most inopportune time.....Why? This is starting to remind me of the Mike Martz era.

Your assessment does not add up. We were the better team during the first half.
SF made some incredible adjustments at half time and then proceeded to vaporize us.
I would love for someone to analyze what they adjusted to bring about our demise.

Re: Main reason we lost
I will analyze the game for you. It wasn't a penalty, a bad call, a mistake, or that we outplayed them and shot ourselves in the foot - It was a relentless unstoppable beating, as usual. Even before half time, reality was starting to set in. You could tell what was coming. As the game progressed, it was clear that we were not the better team. With the current teams that we have - They will beat us 9 out of 10 times the same exact way (and they do). I am sure that both sides made adjustments but no incredible adjustments were needed.DMRamFan wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 8:04 pmSorry Rammer, Claremont has you here bro.Claremontram wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 7:27 pm Rammer:
