Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
Game 2 saw overall better play but the penalties were awful.
OL held up overall better yet still. Still had some pressures forcing Perkins to scramble some of that can be blamed on Perkins because he held the ball sometimes seemingly forever.
Run game was better especially Jones and Funk.
Wrs looked good as usual especially Akers and Koski. I think Koski needs to make the team.
TEs made plays.
Perkins I am not sold on. Weird throwing motion. Late on throws stares down receivers. I say he is PS. I would not carry 3 QBs.
Defense looked better especially in the secondary.
Chris Garrett had 2.5 sacks in 1 series. A pressure in another series. A definite keeper. Banks and Williams also getting to the QB some very hard decisions at OLB some are not going to make it and it is sad. I doubt whoever gets cut and assigned to the PS gets snatched up.
JR Reed again does a nice job.
The bad the penalties way too many.
The STs play was not good. Not the punting the run backs the coverage not great.
Overall it is 2nd stringers of the Raiders but better outing in general. No glaring areas.

Sorry you are wrong on Perkins. He definitely has skills. The one pick he threw, I blame that on Atwell. A bigger receiver would have fought for and caught the ball. You could see Atwell was overwhelmed. I just hope he gets better.

I like perkins but that pick was on him. He threw forced it into coverage. Overall Perkins played well but he did force a few throws and the int was one of them.

Positives: Chris Garrett - looks like he could get a lot of playing time at OLB.
DT Brown (A&M) - A bruiser, will be starting by mid season. Perkins has earned a spot on the roster.
Negatives: TuTu - a wasted 2nd round draft pick. Harris - no hands.
Though Jones and Funk played well it's obvious we need a big, CJ Anderson type, back in the mix also.

Re: Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
Anchrum looks like he can provide that additional depth on the OL along with Noteboom and Evans. Jackson probably too. Good to see.
X. Jones showed well last night. Him and Henderson behind #1 OL will be fine. Still need another back though IMO. Not ready to give it to Funk.
Garret well you all saw it. Against 2’s or not damn impressive. He should of made this team last night.
Koski is going to be a good pick up for another team after we try to sneak him thru onto PS.

Absolutely disagree with your comment on both Atwell and Harris. Again Harris will make this team simply as a ST while staff works with him as a TE.Bones wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 10:14 am Positives: Chris Garrett - looks like he could get a lot of playing time at OLB.

One can argue if we needed Atwell but to not see his skill the first two games well not sure what you are watching. He has caught most of what has been thrown to him and his speed is obvious. And this year if he becomes that much needed punt returner and performs there then it will be a damn good pick while he waits his turn at WR.

Bones:
Absolutely agree, we need a CJ-type RB real bad. This RB crew that we have will not last 17 games.
TuTu also looks very fragile.
Garrett is a gem, and surprisingly, so is Koski.
Not sure about the Oline.

Re: Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
I'm not going to debate whether or not Tu2 was the right pick at 2, because it's done and over with, but I don't think, at this time, he can be called a wasted pick. For starters, last week when he turned on the after burners on that punt return showed just how explosive he is. My second point is that he can't be judged out there with a 3rd string QB and receivers who may not even make the team. He'll have a different role when Woods, and Kupp are out there. In these two preseason games, he's the guy being focused on. That won't be the case when the starters are out there, he'll be used in much different ways. I just think it's premature to call him a wasted pick 2 preseason games in.Bones wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 10:14 am Positives: Chris Garrett - looks like he could get a lot of playing time at OLB.

You are wrong
Perkins underthrew the pass. Atwell beat his man by a step and he under threw it. That pass is on Perkins. Talib said the same.

This is why some here feel that Goff got treated unfairly. Goff throws that pass, people say it was a badly under thrown pass, which it was.
Perkins throws it, someone like yourself says it was the wr fault.
Tutu had his man beat by a full step, Perkins underthrew it and forced it into coverage. Talib pointed out that it was Perkins fault and Talib loves whT he seen from Perkins.

Yeah, Perkins underthrew Tutu. If he had thrown it out front Atwell likely finds another gear and takes it to the house.Timking124 wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 8:32 amI like perkins but that pick was on him. Then there was Creed Humphries sitting there when Atwell was selected. Tutu and DJax are somewhat interchangeable. Not sure the line is up to snuff so I have a bit of concern about his selection...Ramsfan08ny wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 11:19 amI'm not going to debate whether or not Tu2 was the right pick at 2, because it's done and over with, but I don't think, at this time, he can be called a wasted pick.Bones wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 10:14 am Positives: Chris Garrett - looks like he could get a lot of playing time at OLB.

D Jack hasn't finished a season in years. D Jack and Tu Tu are the only two wrs on the roster with take the top off the defense speed.Hacksaw wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 12:57 pmThen there was Creed Humphries sitting there when Atwell was selected. We haven't even seen the bigger and stronger Allen play center yet this year.
Many said that the rams should have drafted a center last year. Mcvay was right with sticking to his roster. Last year, Blythe played better than all the centers the rams could have drafted last year.
Time will tell if Mcvay was right again.

You have to be kidding about Atwell. No way he catches everything thrown to him, not unless he standing by himself away from defenders. I blame Perkins pick solely on him. A bigger receiver would have fought for and either caught the ball or knocked it out of the defenders hands. You could see Atwell was totally overwhelmed on the play.

Whats ironic is the bengals got the bigger wr in
Ja Mare Chase in the draft and he dropped 3 passes yesterday including a few contested.
Atwell had 0 drops yesterday but failed to catch a poorly underthrown ball in double coverage and you give Perkins a pass and blamed the it Atwell. So I guess its bc you wanted the rams to draft a different position and now taking that anger out in Atwell.
The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes Bengals No. 5 overall pick Ja'Marr Chase "has not shown as much separation as you’d hope" in training camp.
Ja'Marr Chase was held catchless in Friday's preseason game against Washington.
Chase dropped all three of his targets. It's not the step forward the Bengals were looking for from Chase, who's struggled getting open in training camp practices.

OK. I am willing to bet at the end of the year Chase will have 10 times of a bigger impact than Atwell. I know Chase will get more opportunities, but it is not even close comparing him to Atwell. I grew up being forced to watch the Niners since I live in the bay area, and I remember all the times Jerry Rice dropped the ball as a rookie, but even a die hard Rams fan could see he had immense talent. I'm just not seeing that in Atwell yet. I'll let the season play out before I give a final rating. But please don't put Atwell in the same sentence as Chase.Cornell29 wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 2:54 pm Chase Srv

I do find it ironic that you expected Atwell to catch a under thrown ball in double coverage but now are now excusing Chase dropped passes throughout camp and him struggling with contestant catches and getting separation.
You would think you would hold a top 5 overall pick to a higher standard then a late 2nd round pick.

Whether Chase becomes a star or a bust is irrelevant to Atwell's performance. To this very SSS Tutu is still showing up as a limited impact player. That may well change when he lines up with Stafford, Kupp and Woods but we won't know for several more weeks.Cornell29 wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 3:38 pmChase is the more talented wr. Yeah. I should've added at least several more weeks. I think WRs/RBs can have a quicker development than other positions. We knew Kupp was special early on. Top receivers like Diggs, Adams and Tyreke all made big impacts in their rookie seasons. Diggs is a first rounder, Hill a fifth, Adams about the same place as Tutu. Maybe someone like Adam Thielen comes in undrafted and takes a couple of years to work his way up the depth chart but you'd hope for more from a second.NorCal RF wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 4:13 pmCorrection we won’t know probably like most rookies for a few years.Rams since '66 wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 3:59 pm Whether Chase becomes a star or a bust is irrelevant to Atwell's performance. Re: Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
Actually a month before the draft I said we needed our first pick to be a WR who can stretch the defense deep so our new QB can do his thing. What I saw with Atwell Sat night was good straight away speed but also a guy who could be bullied at the line of scrimmage, disrupting his route too often. It also looked like defenders were bringing him down easily, several times stopping him with just one arm. I don't hold the Int against him, ball was underthrown and he was mugged by the defenders.Cornell29 wrote: ↑August 22nd, 2021, 11:46 amDisagree about Tu Tu. Not sure what game you are watching. Negatives: TuTu - a wasted 2nd round draft pick. Harris - no hands.

Re: Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
I agree on Atwell. It's early, but he seems like a reach for the second round. He is too small, and is tackled too easily. I think he could have easily been had in the 3rd round. Rams should have drafted a center. Harris is a developmental project. Give him time and experience. I also agree with you that the Rams need a bigger back; especially for goal line situations, although I like Funk's toughness in short yardage.

Re: Preseason game #2 analysis definitely better
I see a lot of differing opinions on Perkins. IMO he played well. Not perfect but overall I think we need to consider keeping 3 QB’s for a change.
I will point out, that even though he has made some mistakes, one of the announcers was talking about it the other night. This is the first time he’s played any type of game in 2 years. Due to the Covid situation last season he never made it onto a field. The last time he played any real game was in college back in 2019.
If we cut him, I doubt he will clear waivers.
