Ty Hamilton DT - Rams gave up 4th round pick next year for him ?
Liked this player in College as a super run stopper - not sure a trade up with a mid round pick in 2026 made any sense but now it seems he does not make the final 53 ? Risky draft move even if it costs only a 4th round pick.

Yeah, he hasn't had a great camp. Maybe he gets to the PS, develops, goes unclaimed by another team, and shows something next year.

Hope the Rams keep him somewhere in the network & get to use him now/later as a rotational DL who can play the run. Always a need for such a player.

Rams tend to draft a defensive lineman every year and develop them slowly. Players like Sebastian Joseph Day didn’t get a lot of snaps early in their careers and developed into decent players. Rams also rarely give second contracts to DL players with the exception being AD and possibly Kobe Turner who have been exceptional pass rushers from the defensive line position. Haven’t heard much about Hamiltons progress but he has been playing late into the preseason games along with a lot of players who won’t make the 53 man roster. Not sure if the future draft choice used to acquire Hamilton will guarantee him a roster spot because the Rams are in win now mode.

I ask OP we have really focused on Hamilton the first two games?
Greg Gaines all I’m going to say. If one doesn’t understand then go back in here and see what was said about him his first 2 years and then go watch the playoffs n SB that SB winning year. A lot of crow was ate by some……..

It is a rhetorical question asked for discussion on the player - when he was in his play was discussed on NFL network & his camp performance has been noted. It is unusual to give up a future mid round pick along with his 2025 draft slot and see his play so far to be sub standard. DL historically take longer to develop just hope he can be stashed somewhere while that happens. Did see him play quite a bit in college and he was a physical run enforcer on the DL.

I’m not sure how someone can be viewed as “sub standard” 2 preseason games into his career……..RonMac wrote: ↑August 19th, 2025, 3:11 pm It is a rhetorical question asked for discussion on the player - when he was in his play was discussed on NFL network & his camp performance has been noted. As oc n I have said for a few years now, judge a player in his 3rd year. Based it on that not some pick we used to trade up for that player again after 2 preseason games……..

Snead has a bad habit of giving up too much draft capitol. I don't like giving up a 4th next year for a player that's clearly not going to start. Heck he might not even make the roster. Stupid trade up IMO especially with the amount of depth we already have on the D-Line...
At least he made a good trade with Atlanta...

Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

He mostly playing/learning NT. Don't expect alot of stats from him. Rams are using him as a man eating NT who job is to hold his ground. Made a solid play against the Chargers, holding his ground (nothing special). Rams always knew he was a project, so they will be patient, imo. I wouldn't count him out.

The Rams are beefing up in preparation of a light draft next year. Snead had said during the last draft that he didn't try to trade back much because of the high amount of young players already on rookie deals.
Expecting a very light draft next year, in regards to number of Rams selections.

Light draft in 2026 makes some sense when viewed through the lens of a younger roster on mostly favorable deals - The 2 #1s are being looked at as earmarked for a top QB - so giving up the 4th round pick for Ty Hamilton could be looked at as part of the overall 2026 draft but I do hope he is at least part of the Rams DL future.

Gaines looked like a wasted pick for 1st 2 years as you said. I don't think it was "people were wrong". It was a real thing. He showed nothing, So us fans look and say- what a waste, or why do we have this guy and why did we draft him? Development is something fans generally miss or don't really have patience for. I am speaking for myself i guess. Learning to let player develop and not be impactful on day 1. No everyone will be KT or Verse or Puka. And then there's Logan Bruss players....have patience- developing...blah blah...and never pans out. It's all hard to sort out from a fan's point of view. Some develop into players...others don't. Stetson B is a fine example right now....maybe we got something afterall?NorCal RF wrote: ↑August 19th, 2025, 2:58 pm I ask OP we have really focused on Hamilton the first two games?

And there is the key word, patience. As a fan, if we have followed the league for any length of time, we know teams are going to be patient. At least the good ones. Why we don’t, I guess because like you said we are fans, I feel makes fans look a bit uneducated with the process of drafted players. 3rd year…………RAMFAN71 wrote: ↑August 20th, 2025, 9:50 amGaines looked like a wasted pick for 1st 2 years as you said. Totally agree- grading drafts the day after is a joke. You grade a draft after the 3rd year and the dust has settled.

I never understood the Rams giving up on John Franklin-Myers following what struck me as a solid rookie season...

Ask Wade.
He decided to keep Tanzel Smart instead.

That was strange. Didn’t JFM have the only sack for the Rams in the New England Superbowl?
Saturday it looked like Desjuan Johnson’s past couple of years of experience really kicked in. I hope they keep him and can develop Hamilton on the PS. Don’t pull a “Smart.”

Remember by NFL calculations...a next year's 4th round pick is equivalent to this year's 5th round pick. In their mind they gave up a 5th round pick. Not sure how they get there but they have been pretty consistent. Not to mention, our next year's 4th round pick will be the last pick of the round. ;-)

Rams DC says rookie Ty Hamilton is getting 'better and better every single day'
Shula shared an update on Hamilton's development with Week 1 approaching

With how loaded their defensive line already is, the Los Angeles Rams didn’t necessarily draft Ty Hamilton to be a major contributor this year. The fifth-round pick out of Ohio State will be afforded time to develop, which should help him in the long run.
He’s had a relatively quiet summer in practice and the preseason but that’s no reason for concern. Hamilton is adapting to the NFL game after putting together a successful career with the Buckeyes.
Defensive coordinator Chris Shula shared an update on Hamilton’s development Wednesday, saying the rookie gets “better and better every single day.”
“He's just continuing to get better and better, getting more comfortable,” Shula said. “We put a lot on those guys as far as adjusting where you come from the college game and a lot of those are gun offenses, spread out offenses. You're really just playing a three technique, a shade or a two-high where he's playing a lot more different techniques, different run schemes, under-center gap schemes. There's a lot of stuff that goes into it so he's just continuing to get better and better every single day. He's a guy that puts his head down and goes to work every single day and you see that those guys have really seen the potential in him and taken him under their wing.
