Like it or not Stafford is under the gun tonight

Post by toast49 »

He's the main topic going into this game.
4 int's in his 3 previous playoff games
11 int's in his last 10 games or so.
17 int's on the year, the most except for Trevor.
4 pick sixes which equals the total the Rams had in the previous 4 seasons under McVay.
Stafford better have his head screwed on tonight and not come out cold.

As I mentioned in a post last week I think we are going to find out that Stafford has/had a shoulder or arm injury that he's been playing through... That said, I agree that he has to be the Stafford that the Rams started with the first several games.

All eyes on Stafford tonight.

The benefit of playing the Cards vs the Saints is the Saints D is similar to the niners and would have punished Stafford and the rams OL.

Cards offense is better than the Saints, even without Hopkins.

Payton is a better coach then KK

Saints fans travel, Cards fans don't travel as much, so the rams shouldn't need a silent count against the Cards.

Predict forum rage later if Stafford throws one or more picks.
Tonight has to be one of the cleanest and efficient Matt has ever played if we are to progress. OL has to play lights out to give him the best chance of success.
You have to figure that the Cards are not going to make the same mistakes from our last encounter.

Forum rage might be an understatement…

One pic, ehhh… it’s happens. But 3 pics? Yikes. He may not be in a Rams uniform next season. At least I hope not IF he does poop the bed again tonight.

I think 13+ seasons, he has no more excuses. Of course this is a team game, but I must say… pressure is on Stafford to perform very well tonight. Why? Because we sold our souls just about to acquire him.

No?
Can't argue with that DM.

AZ doesn't have SF's defense
One of the benefits to playing the cards vs the Saints. The rams ol should be able to handle the cards dl. The rams should be able to establish a run game. Rams have two backs now. Saints had a top 4 rushing defense (right behind the niners) Cards rushing defense is ranked #20.

I'm expecting a balanced offense.

Under the gun…………..

Well I’m a bit more concerned about an OL that was horrible last game……….

A defense that couldn’t stop the run In the second half………….

A defense that couldn’t get to a QB with the game on the line………

A secondary that has struggled to cover anyone this year and had to bring in a 37 year old safety who hasn’t played in 2 years for this game…………..

You know it won't matter. We lose and he'll get all the heat and mamy here will be giddy about it. Criticism he took last week had me scratching my head. He played well and was under total duress the second half, then the defense folded, yet several still blamed him because he threw 2 picks.
If Stafford wins those same posters won't count it bc it was against the Cards. It's win win for them.

You guys whine moan and preoccupy too much of your time over what others think. Who cares, it's a message board. Grow up and get over it already. Atleast pretend you have testosterone....Jesus lol

It's simple for me....I expect to win tonight! If Stafford plays great and we lose. I won't blame him just like I didnt blame Goff for losing to GB. That said, we went all in on Stafford and he needs be one of our best players this postseason. Even if the D has a subpar game. Like I said before....if Stafford needs everything to be perfect to win, well then why not just keep Goff if your in the exact same boat? Lets call a spade a spade!

If your making excuses for the guy already. Maybe its your own opinions your worried about and not the team.

Go Rams!

Exactly, if everything is perfect we could have won with Goff. They brought in Stafford, so everything doesn't always have to be perfect. He's got plenty of talent around him and a young innovative, genius, guru and his best pal that is designing his offense and calling his plays. So, this is as good as it ever gets for Stafford. It's time to shine. It's the playoffs now and he can't throw costly picks or pic six and and expect to win.

Last week, we lost because of those ints. The result of those -- At the key moment, McVay was afraid to put the game in Stafford's hands to ice the game. Actions speak louder than words. He didn't trust him. It was message sent to both teams.

Rams lost bc of the two ints?

One of the int was a 3rd and 17 and was the same as a punt. The other int came after the niners already pulled off a miracle comeback. The damage was done and the D already cost the rams the game by then.

Mcvay ran the ball 3 times bc it burned all the niners timeouts and gave the rams a 98 percent chance of winning.

Some of you guys hated of the trade just shows in replies like these. Rams did lose to the Titans bc of Stafford and Stafford has struggled down the stretch but Stafford wasn’t the reason the rams lost to the Niners.

Or....Stafford could have have it OBJ in stride and we win!!!

I'm not blaming Stafford for the loss but he was brought here to make play he missed to end that game. Let's be real if that was Goff many here would be blaming him. I'm honestly shocked at how different the standard is for these guys. Especially since Stafford is the 13 year vet and Goff was a younger QB.
I don't remember Goff being blamed for every lost but that seems to be happening with Stafford. I for one didn't blame the Rams for the loss to Green Bay in the playoffs, I blamed the defense. If that was Stafford, I'm sure many if you will blame Stafford, just like some of you blaming Stafford for the niners lost. Last year I didn't blame the Rams for losing to Buffalo. I'm sure there was a play Goff didn't make against Buffalo but imo he wasn't to blame for the loss.

Lol he's been under the gun the last two months.
Tonight makes no difference.
It's not like he'll be fired after the game if they lose.
Rams will probably win and he'll probably suck anyway.
He'll throw an int or two but it won't matter because cards are missing Hopkins and a running back or something.

Whos blame Stafford for every loss?

You're obviously preoccupied with this whole Goff/Staff thing. I could care less I just want to win. And yes this board was filled with Goff. Even to the extent you were called not a real Rams fan unless you hate Goff or even being accused of wanting to have "sex" with the guy.

Just stop Cornell we all know how toxic it got here. You're not fooling anyone.
Everytime I come on the board after a Rams lost there are multiple threads and posts blaming Stafford.
Second of all I was right there defending Goff last year. So I know what it was like defending Goff.

Just like I defended Goff after losses I felt he didn't lose, I will defend Stafford. I stay consistent.

Stafford will get destroyed if he loses tonight. And rightfully so.

At the end of the day, he is our QB. All we can do is support him and hope he does well.

But he's under a mountain of pressure tonight. More so that any other single player this post season.

∆ this. I think there is too much emphasis on Stafford, and not enough on the bullets above.

I put last week’s loss on a total defensive collapse. That last pick in overtime was underthrown, but I don’t think Stafford can make those long throws anymore. McVay should have called a move the chains pass. I think in his mind, Stafford thinks he can still do it and is shocked when the ball falls short.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I think something may be wrong. The biggest issue is how well our offensive line holds up. They’ve been playing awful the past several games. I blame a lot of errant throws by Stafford on not having the protection he needs to chunk the ball downfield. Now the under throws and stupid pick 6’s are on him a lot of times trying to make something out of nothing. Sometimes he needs to just eat it.

Stafford is not the problem and neither was Goff most of the time. The problem the Rams have is a paper mache defense and a lousy offensive line. The reason the 49'ers kick our a** is? Both their lines dominate ours. Blocking and tackling skills are something the Rams lack. Stafford is fine Goff was fine. Ever notice how every one starting getting on Goff when the Oline got weaker? Again, Stafford is fine. Block someone already. Play some defense. End of problem. The reason the Niners beat Dallas? The 49'ers Dline ate the vaunted Cowboys offensive lines lunch. Therefore, let Stafford play and for G** sake give the guy a break. Because he inherited the same issues Goff had to live with.

The trenches has been and continues to be a problem for who ever line up at qb when the rams play strong physical fronts. Every year we talk about the same thing with the trenches. It's the style of OL the rams draft to play here. They are usually good at getting out on the corners, screens and getting to the second level except when they play a strong physical front.

True, but our team's pass "D" was equally to blame as well, I don't recall ever watching a secondary perform that pathetically, not even at the Pop Warner level... :) :? :x

I am not greedy. Let us start simple. Teach the guys on defense some tackling fundamentals. Maybe we can bring in Dick Vermeil in the off season to run a boot camp on fundamental tackling and blocking. That is what he did in St Louis and it worked. How about some ball recognition for the defensive backs?

Yep, that goes with the QB position.

My suggestion for Matthew Stafford is to perform 'lights out' and lead the Rams to a one-sided victory tonight--then he'll be the hero and won't be blamed for anything vs. the Cardinals... :) 8-)

The qb position normally get all of the blame and all of the rewards. The problem is, over the years, the qb position been getting all of the blame and some of the rewards.
