Coleman Shelton is TERRIBLE.

Post by brasilrams »

Grades 44 by PFF in pass blocking. Stafford is eating pressure up the middle every single game. That fumble today happened because the DT shoved Shelton right into his face. On that 4th and 3 — when McVay should’ve just kicked the FG — it was Shelton again who failed miserably.
Whose genius idea was it to sign this guy thinking he’d be the solution at center?

Shelton is a weak link, just like our ST coach, our kicker, and apparently our WR2 who can’t catch a damn ball. How many drops does Adams have already this season?

What happened to Limmer? Poor coaching or was last season a fluke?

He’s a JAG. Like Limmer. Verteran O linemen signed for peanuts generally aren’t good.

Started strong, started to leak oil as season progressed and then got exposed vs the eagles late 4th.

Imo he just needs to get stronger and more experience making the line calls.

He is less than a JAG.

44 pass blocking grade is plain terrible.

All positions are valuable - when you don’t give due diligence to securing talent at all positions you will pay. IMO Limmer was a find last year and a developing player . Coleman was brought in and he is a known weak link who is rag dolled by nearly every team we play - and Limmer ( sure his confidence has been destroyed ) is a regular inactive while we went out and spent FA $$$ on a lesser talent.

Still sucks we're not talking about Limmer being our C for the future. Baffling how he digressed. We need upgrades for sure

can we all just agree that this OL is not good. I keep seeing guys post that this OL is good. No it's not and it has to be addressed in the off season.
this reminds me of when KC got crushed in the SB and they came back the next year with 3 new OL....has to happen

It is not the entire ol. Dotson and alaric are very good. Avila is good. We have a problem at center and RT. Shelton sucks and Hav is old and always hurt.

Agreed. We should have stuck it out with Limmer. He hasn't played well at guard but he played pretty well for a rookie last year until he whiffed in the Eagles game. I think we should give him another shot.

I don't think he needs to get stronger. I mean we all do but he benched 39 reps at the combine the most in the whole combine

He's a gym rat which is why I like him, he had the second highest vertical jump of all offensive lineman at his combine

I don't think it's physical. I think McVay got pissed at him for his calls and is holding the typical McVay grudge, even though he is physically better than Shelton

He did not have a high PFF pass blocking grade but he only let up one sack and a few QB hits, I thought we were going to see a much more vigorous competition for the Senter position, but it seems like McVay made his decision before camp even started,

Here we go again blaming one guy for all the Rams offense problems

When Williams fumbles it his fault, when butter-fingers Adams drop passes its his fault....... But when the kicker can barely kick a field goal higher than the cross bar or misses a field goal it's the snappers fault........ or when Stafford fumbles or fucks up it's the fault of the earth being off axis by 0.7 degrees of nominal. That fumble was Stafford's fault alone, and his inaccurate throws as well. The offensive line has only allowed 11 sacks this season and five of those if Stafford wasn't so damn slow and just a little but more nimble, maybe the offensive line would look better than what you are eluding to, which IMO is way off base.
STFU you Damn idiot. I didn't blame shelton for all of the offensive issues we have. I never did that. Just stop. I said he is the weak link in this o line which he is. He had a terrible game yesterday and he grades 44 by pff in pass blocking. That fumble Stafford had was because the defender was pushing shelton in his face. Shelton sucks.

Your sky is falling thread is just kinda lame in my view.... I'm just pointing out holes in your post is all, not your character..... And yes maybe the "go play soccer" comment was a bit over-board  ... So if it makes you feel better I'm sorry.

It would be like me starting a hate thread about Stafford's three bad throws and a bonehead fumble after a good win.... And expect everyone to agree with me.
Yeah " whatever " .

This thread isn’t about “the sky is falling,” but rather to point out that we have a real deficiency at the center position, which should’ve been addressed in the offseason but never was. And I am not calling out shelton for one GAME , his OVERALL pass blocking grade is 44 ! FORTY FOUR .
(38th/49 - Cs ) . So he has been BAD the entire SEASON.

Signing a below-average center to be your starter is a terrible decision, especially when you have a pocket passer at QB, since interior pressure is the worst thing for that type of quarterback. It’s a major mistake by this front office. We have a glaring weak link in this O-line, and I’m sure that if I know that, other DCs know it too.

He does have a good run blocking grade ( 74 ) , so he opens holes for KW but he can't protect Stafford at all .

I think next draft Round 2 should be a Center. After we grab a future QB and LT/RT.

or go get someone in FA. at the beginning of the year I was excited about the prospect of getting the future QB but after watching a lot of college games there isn't anyone out there to get excited about. At this point I would use the 2 first rounders they have on other slots i.e. OL, CB and LB.

Yup it'd be nice if he was better in pass protection but running the ball is a plus too!

As the season goes hopefully fans realize this unit is not as bad as they think. Watch the Raiders, you'll be reminded what a poor oline looks like.

This guy has been horrible; he was previously allowed to walk for a reason!!! And as usual we bring these types of players back and it is hardly ever successful. We could have had Creed Humphrey locked down for 10+ years, but instead we had to have that impactful WR TuTu Atwell. It's plain and simple, McVay and Snead like to go CHEAP at one of the most critical OL positions. This guy is letting Stafford get hammered right up the middle. This line has not been good for a long time, it may play a good game here and there, but not on a consistent basis. Ask yourself, should Stafford have been more successful over the last couple years, YES, but he just doesn't have the time to work his magic. It's obvious we need help at Center and I would say both Tackle positions. Not sure what is going on with Avila
