Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
The San Francisco 49ers muscled their way to a hard-fought 26-23 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football, improving to 4-1 while dropping their rivals to 3-2. What unfolded for the Rams was a squad that looked flat, unprepared, and had far too many embarrassing self-inflicted wounds.
The game sealer – Kyren Williams, barreling toward what looked like a touchdown to put the Rams ahead for good, coughed up the ball at the goal line. The 49ers’ defense swarmed the loose ball, essentially sealing the game they had no business being in – or so the oddsmakers thought. For a back who’s racked up 11 lost fumbles over his career – a stat that screams red flag – it begged the question: Was locking him into a long-term extension last offseason the Rams’ biggest misstep? It certainly is time to consider benching Williams and begin integrating Jarquez Hunter into the offense.

I don't think this warrants benching these 2 guys. They have been great thus far. Both made crucial fumbles....but both are solid backs.

I don't see this happening. For better or worse Williams is your starter. There will be a lot of over reaction for this game. I shudder to look at the forum this AM. What is weird in the 3rd quarter I said to myself how it looked like Williams truly embraced ball protection. Two hands on the ball when contact made. .. To Williams defense watch the play again. I think the ball was punched out by a lucky swing.

Man- that's hard to watch. Why take the arm off? Idiot. Wrap it up. Great play by defender. Lucky play.

Re: Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
Glendora,
I aggree 100%, time to bench Kyren and see what Hunter brings to the table.
Kyren is a slightly better than average RB with a big 48 million dollar contract. He consistently fumbles at crucial game points. These fumble/losses are absolutely demoralizing.
I don't want to hear about what a great back he is; RBs like him can be had each draft in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
Also, Shula better figure out how to stop 5-10 yard dink and dunk QBs as we will see plenty more of this in the future.
Lastly, we clearly have not fixed the extra point/FG protection on STs. This shit needs to be meaningfully addressed now!
Last night's game provided the entire NFL with a blueprint on how to slay the LA Rams.

Re: Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
It makes no sense that Williams would do that, as if he were almost celebrating reaching the end zone. He needed to be wrapped all the way around that ball, even if it meant slowing down. It’s not like it was 4th and goal with no time left. In fact, they needed to eat up more clock. Just sad and dumb all around.
What will things look like going forward? These ten days and the Baltimore game are crucial.

I love Kyren but you all forgot the pass to him out in the flat on 3rd down that he was wide open no defender in sight. He proceeds to drop the ball causing us to punt. It was a 100% sure first down.
The mental errors this season are why we are not going to make a SB run unless something changes. We beat ourselves with drops, fumbles, bad FG protection that was the 4th block in 5 games, bad tackling, bad bad coaching on Shula, Blackburn, Pleasants, Conigliaro and McVays part the only one i am excluding was Lefleur he did his job and the offense looked relatively solid.
This cant happen we were healthy and they were the walking woulded we should have killed them.

Guy cost us a Super Bowl too. He had a devastating fumble in the divisional round after the rams recorded a safety and score was 16-15.

Re: Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
9ers had about 250 YAC yards last night. I play in particular, in OT was a checkdown to CMC 6 yards behind the LOS and he goes for 22 yards, a 16 yard net gain. More YAC then Yardage. SF had 4 passes in OT and they all got YAC, probably 25 yards total.
The 9ers D, which doesn't play prevent with the game on the line, allowed the Rams ZERO YAC on the 4 pass play that got us to the 11 Yardline that lead to the 4th and 1 stuff. I don't for the life of me get how there were no Defensive HT adjustments.
They continued to play Zone passing defense, which plays right into the dink and dunk the 9ers employ....
I'm slowly becoming a non fan of Our DC! Our Defense is always soft no matter who's the Coordinator...

Re: Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
That is something I was thinking about. It seems the defense always play like that ( prevent , scared and conservative ) no matter the DC . I wonder how much input MCvay has on this , but I am guessing he has at least SOME . Maybe this is the way he wants the defense to be . DC's will be able to call the plays and implement their scheme but always using this a base concept. IF that is the case , then we have a real problem here .Rampager66 wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2025, 2:58 pm 9ers had about 250 YAC yards last night. Re: Kyren Williams Fumble Cost The Rams Another Victory - Changes Must Be Made
Williams am has had 11 fumbles during his Rams tenure. The most of any running back during this time. Including a critical fumble against the Eagles last year in the playoffs that led directly to a score. Then the niners game.
There comes a point where you have to recognize this is who he is.
Turnovers lead to defeats, never more apparent than last weeks game.

So let's put in a rookie RB with zero carries in the NFL. Makes no sense.GlendoraRam wrote: ↑October 7th, 2025, 6:53 am Williams am has had 11 fumbles during his Rams tenure. Kyren is the starter, will be the starter. We need to be realistic here.

It was a stupid mistake, in a game with alot of them. You can’t fumble there. You just can’t.

True, but then at the same time... why not try something new? What do we have to lose pulling up the rookie for a game? Maybe he does a fine job and doesn't fumble, maybe he doesnt. What do we have to lose at this point...D-GenerationX wrote: ↑October 7th, 2025, 7:03 amSo let's put in a rookie RB with zero carries in the NFL. KW is a good runner, but he makes mental mistakes that literally cost us games. Just not smart football at times... so imo, and while I agree w your premise here DGX, may not hurt to just try a bigger back... especially for the 3 and 2 or 4 and 1's... (our little dudes just bounce back off piles)
Also, maybe pulling KW or Corum down for a game will make them rethink how serious it is not to lose balls, or catch.

Of course you can play a rookie RB. He needs to start somewhere. I am not talking about him taking over for Williams, I am talking about seeing what he can do.
Lots of rookies RB’s play.
