Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
Among all time greats, where does E.D. Rate?

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
Top 12.. and for me probably around 8-10. The problem with E.D....... Fumbling... and at bad times. That sounds familiar these days. And to a lesser extent, the diva attitude.

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
The reason i fell in love with the Rams was because of ED. That running style was just so unique !
If he would have stayed a RAM, top 5 for me !! But because he left in his prime.. maybe top 20

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
he is so underrated, when he played for the Rams, the passing game was so horrible. It can't be understated.
Dickerson was a great receiver. He was able to take it to the house with ease, he was good on the goal line, he was a power runner and a finesse runner. From a talent perspective only Barry Sanders was better than him.

I would put him top 5. Very few combined his size, quickness, and speed.

Well said....For me Barry is the best I ever watched....the next was ED, Bo Jackson (still wish he didn't get hurt), and Earl Campbell...mix them how you like, but those are the tops in my book....might even add Marshall Faulk because he was a complete RB and the best receiving back I ever watched.therealheadslap75 wrote: ↑May 7th, 2025, 8:19 am he is so underrated, when he played for the Rams, the passing game was so horrible. I also like Riggins but he really only had a couple years and Csonka but the Fins were stacked.
Must say I never watched Jim Brown but some older guys might remember and can weigh in....that's why I stated "I ever watched"

For pure power and speed, Earl Campbell and Bo Jackson are the best I have ever seen. Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
Jim Brown was the best pure ballcarrier I've seen, although I was quite young (not yet a regular NFL fan) even during his last seasons, so I only watched him play occasionally.therealheadslap75 wrote: ↑May 7th, 2025, 8:19 am

In terms of being an all-round RB, that is rushing, receiving, blocking and even passing, Walter Payton was #1 overall to me. By all accounts he was also a terrific person, his nickname 'Sweetness' wasn't merely a reference to his running style.
I would rank Eric Dickerson at #4 overall, behind Brown, Payton and Barry Sanders, due to his fumbling issue... 8-)

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
ED was sooo fun to watch. So fast at his size. He wore every pad available too. Coolest player in the League (thank God he didn't play in our current uniforms
)
I put him top five, but there’s a lot of top 5’s lol (lot’s of ties w/ so many elite backs). He carried the offensive load no doubt, but had an elite O-line in front of him to balance it out.
The “diva” thing, I was mad at the time, but later came to realize it was the cheapskate georgia frontier behind the drama imo. PAY the man bitch!

Emmitt Smith.....definitely not in my top 5 but a lot of people will put him in
ED
Barry Sanders
Billy Sims....yes I know a lot of people won't agree but Billy was a man amongst boys before he got hurt.
OJ......just can not put him in for obvious reasons
Gale Sayers...on the fence with him
Tony Dorsett
Marshall Faulk.....Ram homer here

^ This
He kept getting the runaround from Georgia. I remember it all well. Let's all remember, this is a business and if you're good at something, never do it for free. Well, ED was the tops in the league at the time, but good ol Georgia wouldn't pay/commit to him accordingly.
Aren't we all so glad we have Kronk as our owner now, a business man that actually knows how to delegate extremely well, has deep pockets and the experience to pull the trigger (or not to) when its time.

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
I didn't what to go off the rails but I loved Marshal Faulk. I don't know what game it was I believe playoffs clock was running out and Rams may have been in no huddle offense. A play was run and time was ticking off Marshall literally picked Flipper Anderson up to get him in position and start the next play. A small antidote of his professionalism, team leader, situational awareness, and drive to win.ocram23 wrote: ↑May 7th, 2025, 11:57 amlet's look at the " Top 5 " per say. In no specific order. Still going off the topic but always had a warm spot for 70s backs, Tyler, Bryant, and McCutheons. Don't mention Gerome, I don't even really remember him as a Ram. I must have taken that year off.

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
I am probably one of the few that can add a fair, unbiased perspective to this discussion. ;-) I was not a Rams fan when Dickerson or Faulk were around...
Without naming every RB...I would say Dickerson is probably 7th/8th best all time? Definitely top 10. The interesting thing is that I would not put Faulk as high as Dickerson. No specific reason, just that Eric always seemed to have a bigger name, bigger impact than Faulk...from the outside looking in. Maybe because he was so much bigger/taller than most RBs and he was actually fun to watch.
It sounds like this thread should have been titled "Who was the best RB for the Rams?" 1/2 here seem to think Faulk, and the other half Dickerson.

As much as I love ED, my vote has to go with Faulk for best Rams RB of all time... at the end of the day we won nothing with Dickerson.Bulldawg wrote: ↑May 8th, 2025, 7:15 am I am probably one of the few that can add a fair, unbiased perspective to this discussion. ;-) I was not a Rams fan when Dickerson or Faulk were around...

I did have LT in mind and you could definitely argue him being on that list. big one I forgot was Campbell. But IMO I am still taking ED over Faulk and I am an SDSU alum. Just think ED was so special

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
Sure Tomlinson, Marcus Allen, Franco Harris (seems polarizing but I liked watching him run), Bo Jackson…hell tons of great backs. Maybe Derrick Henry and soon Saquon Barkley closing in too.
Yeah you could easily make the argument Faulk over ED. Faulk could do everything on an elite level (with a little less power at the point of contact I guess), but watching him cut in and out of traffic was amazing. ED though for me, something about somebody that big running that fast – bam thru the line like already at bullet speed. And not about win totals what’s-so-ever for me. You could easily won a Super Bowl with any back mentioned in this thread. I mean win totals for Barry Sanders?

Re: Eric Dickerson - Where would You Rate Him?
you can't put win totals on a single player especially at RB. No way in Franco in the top 15 IMO. Thought about Marcus but not in the top 10. Bo was the greatest athlete ever IMO but didn't play long enough to be in the discussion. Modern day players yes Henry and Saquon for sure but again not in the top 10. Okay, but if you're going that route then let's include Steven Jackson, Lawrence McCutcheon, Jim Bertelsen, Willie Ellison, Todd Gurley and 'Jaguar Jon' Arnett, hmmmm?
Of course, Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk would be the Top Two... 8-)
