I am really excited for the first round - feels like a total mystery

Post by malibu »

Maybe outside of Cam Ward to the Titans and possible either way Hunter/Carter going to the Browns and Giants the rest is a total mystery this year. There is a possibility maybe the top three could be a draft down or up etc. I can't remember a 1st round with this much mystery. Mocks are all over the place on teams. Certain teams have positions in a ideal world locked in but will there player be there when it is there time to draft? Last year was a huge anomaly with all the Offense players going so early and Defense kept sliding combined with so many QBs taken in the top 15. This season there are no RUN on a certain position, QBs are not stacked and there are very few players that mocks, analysts have said teams must have.

This year I am going to sit back and really enjoy the thought process of the GMs whether it is the winning the lottery so to speak by getting there player by standing pat or dropping down and getting him a few picks later or the disappointment GMs/organizations will face when there guy unexpectantly goes off the board - unfortunately for the fans we will never know what the thought process was.

As for the Rams I have seen OL, CBs (a variety chosen), QB, ILB, TE, and WR all mocked to the RAMS which to me says wow it is a open field of possibilities.

I have seen some move ups for a specific player, but that is rare this draft and have seen a fair amount of trade backs possibilities happening.

I just hope Les and the Scouts really nail the first pick - this draft season to me it is not about quantity (because there are not a ton of slots open to make this team) it is quality. Getting 3-4 really quality players that can start or BU the starter is all I want.

Lastly the proverbial trade on draft day for a seasoned NFL player. I have always loved this strategy because you know what you are getting. The list is thin in terms of the Rams - There has been talk about Ramsey, Alexander, Hendrikson, Meyer and even one mentioned Will Levis - none IMO are worth expending draft capital to only pay them. Sure Hendrikson could be but we don't need a third OLB/DE especially at his cost. But going on with this theme of this post maybe someone comes out of nowhere.

Hope you all will enjoy it as much as I am going to!!!

For me, the biggest mystery is specifically the Rams. I've never seen so many different mock player and trade scenarios as I've seen for the Rams this year. It's crazy. I seriously have zero clue what will happen.

I think most of us are. that is what makes the draft so great. outside of 1 and 2 I think it is a crapshoot

I think the first 4 go as predicted with NE taking the LSU tackle at 4.

Been listening to niners flag ship n they have been playing Lynch’s pre-draft conference today. Just thought I would share two points I found a bit interesting………

One he said he believes absolutely BPA available in the first round and usually in the second round also. After that he feels drafting for need is the way to go……

He was asked if he feels a lot of teams will try to trade up in the first round. He said no just the opposite. He feels teams are trying to trade back in the first round. Problem is he said is when you have more than a few teams trying to trade back and very few trying to possibly trade up you end up with most teams staying where they are at in the first round. He sees this being the case on Thursday.

I agree - should be fun!
On Levis...if he can understand the fact that he's not playing football with his friends in his back yard, I think he can be pretty good. He just makes REALLY bad and risky choices.

The more QBs and WRs that get drafted before 26, the better chance we will have of getting a dynamic player. I like evaluating the 5 players that get drafted AFTER our pick. Those are players that we could have had as well.

I believe our first pick will be defense, but that would really depend on who is available when our turn comes. I think Rams management does a good job of balancing "best player" with "need". Depending on who is available, a trade down wouldn't surprise me. (Someone could trade up from 2nd round to get Dart if he is still available.) I doubt any top 15-20 talent will drop to 26 but there is always hope.

Pick 26 is not very exciting (but important). I would be very excited if someone like Campbell, Starks, or Loveland could somehow fall to us. We will probably have to settle for #4 or #5 at their position. (Again, not bad, but not exciting.) Trey Amos, Grant, Warren, etc.

Take it for what it’s worth………..

I think there will be a plethora of trade ups.....I feel like there are just less quality guys overall this year. Not sure why I say that. No real evidence. Just a spectator.....

We 100% need a TE. I am just not overly impressed with the TE prospects. They are good, but not sure they are great. We all knew Bowers was going to be a unicorn.

To be honest, I don't know much about any of the TEs...I just know they are not Bowers. Who do you like the best? Are there TWO TEs and then everyone else? (Seems to be a big drop off after the 2nd one, but I couldn't even tell you the names of the top 4.)

I like Warren and Loveland and then after that I think there is a big dropoff. And yes nobody is close to Bowers talent

Sure, that’s a really good clue. I don’t think either Warren or Loveland are far off from Bowers (if at all).

Loveland reminds me of Kittle (great hands/always open). And Warren is a slightly bigger Mark Bavaro (toughness), really fun to watch. But yeah it’s a deeeep TE class. One of the best I’ve seen, with someone there @ #90 & #101 (#127?) a possibility w/ Arroyo, Ferguson, Taylor, Fannin Helm etc...

Read a piece Wednesday suggesting the Giants might try to trade back to the Rams spot for a couple seconds this year (cannot recall if there were any more picks involved but the two seconds was accurate). Piece indicated that, absent someone they really wanted dropping to them, the Rams would do that because after about the 10th pick, there is a lot more realistic value in the second and third rounds. The Rams would then have two in each with the Giants own pick obviously being early in the second.

If you're referring to the giants moving back into the first for the 26th pick. According to the value chart it would be more like the rams getting the giants early 2nd rd pick, and their early 4th rounder.

The only way they'd get two seconds is if they took one in 25 and one in 26, and that would probably be too steep for the Giants to pay.
