Re: Brady and short passing game
I read that Brady's average release last week was 2.1 seconds. Impossible to sack in that amount of time. Have to guard the dink/dunk. Safeties are our weakest link.

Good opportunity to play tight man coverage with a single high safety. Ramsey on Evans and Howard on Gronk.SoCalRam78 wrote: ↑January 19th, 2022, 9:55 am Unlike Murray who always looks downfield (to the benefit of the Rams' pass rush), Brady will always take what's given to him. A lot of checks to backs and he loves him some Rob Gronkowski. This will be done to neutralize the Rams' pass rush.
Rams safties are going to have to cover.
Stay aggressive. Don't try to get cute, you're not fooling Brady with exotic coverages. That just going to increase the risk of having a blown coverage. Keep it simple on the Defense and attack.

You beat that release time two ways - great smothering coverage on the wrs/TEs and playing right near the LOS so our ILBs or OLBs can cover those short dink and dunks to the backs out of the backfield thus forcing him into his 2nd or 3rd reads which forces him to hold the ball longer elongating that release time to upwards of 2.75 - 3+ seconds where our DL can get to him.

Yup sit on those short routes with a single high safety. Match Ramsey up with Evans. Have one of the OLB Bump Gronk off the LOS, before going after Brady and have Howard pick Gronk up in coverage after the bump.malibu wrote: ↑January 19th, 2022, 12:19 pmYou beat that release time two ways - great smothering coverage on the wrs/TEs and playing right near the LOS so our ILBs or OLBs can cover those short dink and dunks to the backs out of the backfield thus forcing him into his 2nd or 3rd reads which forces him to hold the ball longer elongating that release time to upwards of 2.75 - 3+ seconds where our DL can get to him.

Re: Brady and short passing game
The Rams got to Tom Brady more than any other team this year with 19 pressures in week 3 - the next best was the Saints with 15 pressures in week 15. We can pressure him and we can beat them-twice in the last two years (2-0 versus the Tompa Bay Bucs) 27-24 last year 34-24 this year. This time he has no Godwin and a banged up RB group and O-line. We win this time 31-24 -- IMHO

Difficult game. Playing guys who been there, and a QB who won't blow the game like last week. Godwin out is huge, but our secondary is not good- has not been good. So this is a problem if Morris just gives a rah rah play hard speech. He needs a game plan. Evans is a total beast- so yeah keep JR on him. The others just have to play their best game. That's it.

We need a ground game to beat Tampa. Need to get Akers/Michel going early and often and stick with them. Play action will follow.
Some nice field position from STs would be effective also.

Rams will probably use Miller and Floyd to cover the flat some. They'll have to read the back and peel off in coverage when he releases.

Re: Brady and short passing game
As has been said by many above, our corners will have to crowd their WR's so as not to give them a free release and sit on the short routes so that Brady will not be able to throw to his first option. We have to make him pull the ball back down and re-adjust to give our dline more time to crowd him. If they can put pressure on TB12 up the middle, where he can see it, he'll have trouble just like any other qb. And it helps that him getting out of the pocket and taking off (or even rolling out) won't be a major concern. Of course, all of this will go for naught if we don't stuff the run when they attempt it.
