Conner Cook

Post by Wildflecken »

The closer we get to actual draft day, the more likely in my opinion Conner Cook will be highly regarded by the Rams organization. Of all the mocks done by NFL.COM think Jones Drew may of nailed it. If he is Rams target at qb, they may not take any chances and pull trigger at 15. The more tape I see on Cook the more and more likely a scenario this becomes.

Cook was well coached in college and is well prepared for the next level, more prepared than any prospect at the position. The supposed knocks on Cook surrounding not being captain, I can live with and so can Rams. In fact, given Cooks success at the college level and the system he played in, it is very surprising Cook is not in same discussion as Winston last draft. And this bodes well for the Rams sitting at 15. Agree with Bucky Brooks, Cook is the classic dropback passer with a winning pedigree. Throws a fastball on a tightrope with zip and velocity but also shows touch and anticipation. Cook flying under the radar is a good thing for the Rams, but as the draft edges closer it appears this may not be the case. Some may be surprised to see Cook in the discussion at 4 overall to Dallas, If Dallas passes SF taking a look at 7 is not out of the question. Cook is climbing on draft boards inside NFL circles something I hoped would not occur. Some may feel Rams reached at 15 if they select Connor Cook. The closer we get to the actual draft, Rams may find themselves lucky if he is still on the board at 15 when Rams select.

I like Lynch a lot, my top qb prospect this draft, however as we seen with the oline selections last draft Snead places a high value on snaps in a pro system in college. Hard to argue his success playing in this pro system at the college level.

JMO and I've been wrong before but I will be shocked if any team drafts Cook before the latter end of the 1st round. Really can't see him going in the 1st round but there are some teams near the end that might take him (Arizona, Denver) and others that may try to jump ahead and trade up from the 2nd round. If I had to guess, I'd say either Denver grabs him at 31 or Dallas trades up to get him a little earlier.

you mentioned Cook moving up draft boards and possibly Wentz moving down..sure wouldn't surprise me.

Fisher talked about "different personalities" when talking about Wentz and Goff. Where's Wentz's passion on the field? I see Cooks

Will state this, very odd for qb prospect who played in a pro system at the college level and produced the results Cook did not to be considered as a sure fire number one prospect at the position? Think Cook played with less talent at college level than Winston was surrounded by during his college tenure. Cook is oddly underrated in National Media but don't think he has gone unnoticed inside NFL circles.

The depth of this class is rare, rare one class has so many qb's with the required size, athleticism and arm strength.. And if you could get an honest answer this time of the year from NFL teams think you would find 4 separate answers on who their top qb target would be. One of the reasons I have no issues with Rams selecting two qb's this class and finally solving the dilemma. Think this philosophy would ensure they find their future franchise qb even if they avoid the position in round 1. Lot to like about the round 2 thru 4 prospects this class.

I wouldn’t touch Cook before the 3rd. How can you be the leader of an NFL team when you can’t even be a team captain in college?? Enough said. He is a loser. Think Ryan Leaf

or updated isn't named captain of his football team......Camus wrote about over generalizations and the absurdity of life...I'm not ready to make Cook a pariah just yet...especially when former teammates have his back

Agree NN. Ryan Leaf, or Johnny Football, may be apt comparisons. Cook's got skills, but 1) didn't step up in big games, 2) chickened out of the Senior Bowl when he'd have to be side-by-sde compared with other QBs, and 3) is apparently such an arrogant jerk that (some) coaches and teammates just don't like him.

The Rams have drafted jerks before...Phillips, Incognito. How'd that work out for them? A couple quotes on Cook from nfl.com profiles are telling:

"Scouts question his field demeanor and leadership in adverse times. Failed to rise to the occasion in 2015 Big Ten Championship Game or playoff game against Alabama." and "The concern is that his short and intermediate accuracy has never shown the improvement and consistency that scouts expected to see. His inability to take over in big games this year could hurt his cause."

As we've seen with Johnny Football, leopards generally don't change their spots. Anything higher than low 2nd round for Cook is wasted draft value.

:? Phillips didn't work out...But Incognito was a recent Pro-Bowler, no?

Cook always seemed to play hard from where I sit. "Take over big games"?...maybe not, and aside from Alabama he always seemed to fight his team back to a winnable position. I'm not saying I like him at 15, but it wouldn't kill me if they went in that direction.
But I would prefer various other players at 15.

Can a jerk be good? Yep. Do I want him on my team? Nah.

Bingo! Standout guard for an 8-8 team that missed the playoffs, despite high expectations. Incognito was a jerk with the Rams, and got kicked off. He was a jerk with Miami, and blew up their clubhouse.

Some fans will overlook almost anything to get a player they like. Same as Trump saying "I can shoot somebody on Broadway and my people will still love me." I don't expect choirboys, but I don't think decent human being is too much to ask--of a professional athlete, or a presidential candidate.

The one thing that scares me more about Cook than the team captaincy issue is his apparent poor showing in the interview process at the Combine regarding Xs and Os making me question his football IQ. I would rather draft a higher ceiling Lynch who by all reports has a great football IQ but will take longer to start than Cook who will be ready to start sooner but has a lower ceiling. Cook may be the better choice for 2016, but Lynch is the better choice for 2017 and beyond

After reading a report on projected qb rankings, Goff is the only one to take. All others have bust written all over them. I do think they were to hard on Wentz. That report knocked him hard for being from a small school which has won the national championship for the past 5 years. He is from a great program that uses a pro system.

We need to move up to the 6 th pick to get Goff.
