Allen or Shelton

Post by Cornell29 »

Shelton looked good out there. Shelton is a RFA too and Allen is a UFA. I would roll with Shelton, one less starter to worry about resigning.

Sheltin has basically not had his name called for two games, which is a very good sign. Looks solid.

I like Shelton as the starter. Better run blocker.

Shelton and I’m not disappointed in Allen’s play………..

I am very pleasantly surprised with the position, Shelton was always an unknown and we have finally been able to see him on the field. I am liking what I have seen so far. I am still very disappointed that we wasted our 2nd round pick on Atwell, when we could have had Humphrey and grabbed Atwell a round later. It's time for McVay and Snead to start looking at improvements on the OL. Yes, they have done an adequate job, but with this offense we should have a top end line and I don't see a lot of 1st or 2nd NFL team members. I believe we may have a weak link in Edwards at guard, he may be better suited to take over for Whit at tackle.

If Whit retired, Boom will need to be resigned. The problem is he will cost alot and Boom hasn't proven to be durable as a starter throughout the year.

He has played well this year………

I’m keeping Shelton, let Allen leave, and focusing on resigning Noteboom in regards to OL………..

Yes they should let Allen walk after this season and go with Shelton. Resigning Noteboom should be a priority given his talent and the time invested in developing him.

I guess we'll do the dirty and RFA tag Shelton with a view to keeping him through preseason and then cutting him if he won't sign a cheap contract. I really don't like this move but all teams do it. We're not paying Shelton $2M+ next year, at least not on what we've seen after 3 seasons here.

Shelton wasn't particularly impressive in preseason and we're now talking about 2 NFL games, (1 of which was against the Jaguars). I'm not saying training ground routines are a cakewalk but Shelton comes into the end-of-season stretch with a lot less wear and tear on him. I'm not going to crown him just yet, (and generally speaking I liked what I saw of him in 2019 and 2020). I thought Allen did a really good job this year, particularly early on. I would try to bring Allen back as the #1 for 2022 depending on his contract demands and where the market is. Not fussed if the team want to do something different.

We could have let both of these JAGs walk in the offseason if we had drafted Humphrey. I know...I know....dead horse

Seems to me you have a meeting with Stafford on the down low and he makes the call. You can bet when both players are healthy whoever is starting is because Stafford had a say.

Sounds like a good strategy to me.
