Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
I like to solicit some honest feedback on this player. I am not really a DB expert in any sense so I don't quite fully understand his responsibilities , but it sure seems like he gets hyped up by the fans (not unlike some of the other young players we have) and I am not sure I believe they hype. I would like to hear your feedback on if he should be re-signed and will he make a difference in the playoffs.

He is our best safety and when he was playing we didn't have blown coverage all the time like we have now. So yeah we miss him...but him alone won't fix all the issues this defense has now.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
See, to me, he is a JUST above average safety... but what I think we are missing here is, when you have a DB group as bad as ours, the slightly above average guys really shine...brasilrams wrote: ↑December 31st, 2025, 10:27 am He is our best safety and when he was playing we didn't have blown coverage all the time like we have now. so my question is, how really good is Lake?
But yes, hes our best guy back there, and we win w him in. I also think he plays a bigger part because he seems to be the leader back there. I mean, who else is going to keep smacking Forbes and the rest of the stooges in the back of the heads?.
And yes Slickj, he made a difference a TON in the season for us, and it would be a good re-signing imo,

Lake as a player is above average, far from great, but he was rarely ever out of place, always took good angles. What is greatly missed his leadership and field calls (he wore the green dot). He made the infield adjustments prior to the snap. It is missed.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
He isn't elite, though he has improved, and looks capable of taking another step, but he has been more or less solid, and the D seems less disjointed with him on the field.
Del Mar .. isn't he positionally in the frame of Ramsey's "Star" role?

Yes, no Ram works harder down in San Diego in the off season then Quentin Lake.
He gets together with a bunch of players like Amon St Brown to improve.

The thing is , LAKE will be coming from a brutal elbow injury , 2-3 months without a single NFL snap , he WILL be rusty whenever he comes back ( they are saying he might be available for the first playoff game ) . I guess even rusty and not yet on top form , Lake will be better than anyone we have now.

Just resigned 3 year, $42M! I think it’s a good signing and one less position to focus on in the draft.

His leadership, skills, and instincts have been sorely missed. https://www.therams.com/video/quentin-l ... don-week-7
Mic’d up. What a different team they were against Jacksonville!

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
Lake got hurt when we picked off Darnold 4 x and won a low a low scoring game mid November. Our defense hasn’t been same without him. Perhaps the 3 close losses we have had since would have gone other way. Big slot defender and wears green dot. Reasonable deal as well. Good signing.

I am a 60 year old man too but my job requires more homework than I am able to dedicate to the Rams. I posed the question to solicit other feedback, in part because Lake's play does not seem dominant to the casual observer, like Ramsay's play for example.EastBayRamsFan wrote: ↑December 31st, 2025, 7:01 pm Funny how many of you Ram Fans don’t do your homework. IMO not great but important to this Rams D - contract terms and value seem right .

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
Solid player with good work ethic. He has improved every year and the defense is better with him in the game. He is not elite but he is better than average. If we can draft or sign a couple CB's or a CB and S Caleb Downs and another ILB to put beside Landman, this defense will improve tremondously.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
Is he the best Rams 6th round pick ever? I can’t imagine they’ve given $25 million guaranteed to many guys drafted that low.
$25 mil guaranteed for 3 years is a lot. Kerby Joseph who was in the same draft class got $36 million guaranteed over 4 years so I’d say Rams got ok value here.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
Not great can be said about 80+% of the NFL, so I would not necessarily view that as some all consuming negative where only terms and value make him a viable player. He's also still young and has, imo, potential for more growth as a player

I am not sure yesterday was a good indicator, given that it was is first day back, but he seemed a little overmatched at times.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
Lake, like Adams, was rusty but totally made a difference, especially with setting the tempo in the first 1.5 quarters.

He batted a ball away from a receiver on the Panthers 4th down attempt 1st drive of the game

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
He also got the assist on the Durant interception. The Rams have some consistency issues, as do all teams, although perhaps with more extreme highs and lows, but the defense seemed tighter with Lake in there.

Re: Quentin Lake... how good is he really?
True .. but take out that 16 yard run by Lawrence .. and the Rams gave up just 3.1 yards a carry in the run game, which is considerably better than the last several weeks. And yes, I realize that is cherry picking to an extent, but it's nice to see a positive turn ANYWHERE in the D right now
