Xavier Smith as a WR
Has anybody else been waiting for Xavier Smith to reappear as a WR? He was crazy good in preseason and then had that amazing deep catch in game one. I’m not sure he’s been targeted since then. I think that will change this Sunday, especially if Nacua can’t play. It could be wild watching Atwell and Smith splitting up the Jacksonville defense.

Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
His stat page says 1 catch 1 target 36 yards, that's it for the season so far. He does have Return yards..

Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
If Puka can't go, I look for 16 targets for Adams, 6 for TE's 2 for Atwell 2 for Whit and probably 2-3 for KW and Mumpfield. 5 games no targets for Smith suggests McV has no use for him as a WR, especially considering thew result of his only target to date. Any OTHER team, a guy gets 36 on his only target, gets opportunities, not on the this team apparently
GR .. shaken not stirred

It’s so strange. Diversify the weapons and open up the field.

Like Smith - no one mentioning Jordan Whittington in the passing game - his skill set is similar to that of Puca and he adds run after the catch ability.

Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
Whittington, or as Al Michaels says, Whittingham, has had a presence, unlike Smith, who made a beautiful catch in game 1 and then vanished, except for returns. I guess it is pretty likely that Whittington will slide into the Puka role, but I’m hoping that McVay breaks the template a little and disorients Jacksonville.

Well put Big K - IMO Whitt is an asset who should be developed - more ops for him could mean more ball security and the Jags could be in for a surprise. Excellent spot and game for McVay to break out of his predictable mode.

Whitt is Puka replacement, when it comes to blocking and size but he isn't anywhere near the play maker. Mcvay a d Stafford will have to use/target TuTu more to make up some of the playmaking. This will be a good game to get Ferg involved. I dont know how much of the offense he knows, but Ferg is a hybrid and might be able play some snaps in Puka spot when lined up close to LOS.

Exactly and good point... I want to see Ferg involved more. The dude is nails and I think he will be a stud for us... I know some in here aren't sure of this, and rightfully so, since we have not seen a ton of him... but if you watch tape when hes been in, the dude balls out at 100%.Cornell29 wrote: ↑October 16th, 2025, 2:37 pm Whitt is Puka replacement, when it comes to blocking and size but he isn't anywhere near the play maker. Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
It’s crazy to not use Ferguson. Stafford spread the ball around a bit more last game, in part an effect of Nacua’s injury. Unless Adams is dominating, not dropping balls, and freakishly in sync with Stafford, my hope is that every eligible receiver has at least one catch.

Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
So happy to see the ball being spread around! That needs to continue when Nacua returns. Crazy, though, that Atwell didn’t have a catch. Basically, every eligible receiver, even Corum, caught a pass except for Atwell.

Re: Xavier Smith as a WR
Xavier got a couple grabs for 15 yards on 3 targets. He pretty much called the game the way you wanted it. Getting everyone we all mentioned involved. Sometimes wonder if they read the forums...

Jags were flagged 13 times and we also declined 3 or 4 more. I noticed there were lots of flags all over the league. Denver got hit with 12 calls.
