Reality check : Rams vs Eagles

Post by RonMac »

After watching Rams & Eagles play and win today a few honest opinions - I do not see our OL matching up with the Philly front 7 especially with Shelton/Dedich inside / both players lack size and physicality. On Defense I do not see an improvement inside vs the Run game by our front 7. They were bullied today vs the Titans. A huge issue to me is the continued failure of our OLB to set the edge ( Hurtz lives for braking containment & Barkley will expose this regular error by Verse/Young). Finally, would love to see more of Blake Corum as KW is a smallish RB who cannot break tackles. It was pitched as a top priority to deal with these shortcomings and our matchup issues with Philly - after 2 games IMO the Rams are still deficient in these areas. A plus for this game is a very favorable weather forecast for the W/E on the East Coast.

One thing I have noticed about hurts is when the coverage is good the play breaks down and hurts runs for 10 yards. Rams need to have a plan to stop hurtz let alone Barkley. Good take RM.

The Rams are true contenders in my opinion. Are we on the level of GB or Philly? Who appear to be the top dogs right now. I'd say we have a team that can beat anyone.

I'd like to see the offense get a little more consistent. Especially the ground game.

Should be a great game next week.

Rams running game that will prove suspect against Philly. 1. Can't make 3rd and 2 conversion on consistent level. 2. Red zone lacks ability to punch it in.

Barkley has had a very slow start to the season based on his standards.

Cowboys: 18/60 3.3 Ypc
Chiefs: 22/88. 4.0 Ypc

Key is obviously him. Rams interior looked pretty weak today vs Pollard.

I think the Eagles present a challenge similar to Shanahan’s physical 49er teams that beat McVay a bunch of times in a row. I just don’t see this team matching that physicality. Teams like the Eagles and Ravens have whipped us under McVay several times

Rams @ Eagles Pre Game Thread

Post by GlendoraRam »

This game is going to be an early test to see if the Rams are really ready to compete with the top NFC teams.
It’s going to take a huge effort and I think the game will be closer than people pundits think.

Point spread: Eagles -4.5 (Eagles favored to win by 4.5 points or more, otherwise Rams cover)
Moneyline: Eagles -225 favorites to win (bet $10 to win $14.44 total); Rams +185 underdogs to win (bet $10 to win $28.50 total)
Total Over/Under: 45.5 points scored by both teams combined

Please your game opinions / predictions here.

Eagles played two games. They had like 220 yards of offense today. They played okay against Dallas. Yet I never thought they’d lose either game. They murder you with back breaking plays on both sides of ball. Key turnover or sack on defense. Or Hurts scrambling when he doesn’t have his first read and 20 seconds to throw the ball behind that line. He’s a terribly overrated QB but he’s great for them with his ability to scramble and run the BS tush push (which is basically a penalty on every play).

You have to play a perfect game to beat them.

Let’s not forget guys, Rams are really good at playing the same level of whatever team we are playing. McVay Rams always play it close.

Many expect Eagles to win next week. And I’m saying, hold my beer.

It’s going to be a good game. Rams win. Just you wait

I'm pretty confident that they keep it close and down to the wire.. I think Rams run defense much improved which has been our real problem versus Eagles.

I think the Eagles will have a problem with Puka and Davante

will Avila be able to play? If we can keep Stafford relatively clean, we have a shot

The Rams never seem to do that well against a truly mobile quarterback,

Combine that with the fact that we don't seem to have a strategy to maintain the edge. It seems like both verse and young can take an inside rush and there's no consideration for the edge. This is obviously dangerous against Hurts especially when he's running right. I don't even want to think about Lamar Jackson

Saquon, it seems that if he has a really good game, that would be a marginally better performance for us than allowing him to have his best ever games

seriously, if he has 20 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown that would be twice as good as our previous two games against him.

You know if we lose next weekend 1/2 this group will throw in the towel. I am expecting us to get better over the course of the year, just like we did last year. Playing in Philly will be tough, but I agree we can beat anyone on any given day. Every team has some weak spots. Let's just keep Philly away from 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1. Not sure their push tush can be stopped.

Don't use the Chiefs game to measure Philly defense.. Go back to week 1 instead. I think their back 7 is vulnerable against the pass. The Chiefs don't have any healthy weapons right now and a declining Kelce. They have holes in their OL and no real running backs.

So I think the Rams should use their elite Wr and depth repeatedly out of the gate. Attack them! Success is a matter of drawing up the right protections.

let's be real is Philly even in the games against the Rams last year if Saquon had a normal quality game?

He abused the Rams, like no other team, 255 yds and 205yds 4 long touchdowns

if it happens again, there's something about our defense that is not right, if this happens three times in a row, there is something very very very wrong

One of my main concerns is the ability of our cornerbacks to tackle, our corners, especially when Darius Williams is in there vs Spoon, are horrendous against the run, the old Forbes Jr was a horrible run stop guy, hopefully the bigger new one is better

And I do not think the Eagles can beat us if they have to throw the ball ( although Deidich blocking Carter changes everything)

Is Avila ruled out already? I really don't know, haven't had time to keep up with the injury report through the week(s). Putting together a new household.

First, let's address the push tush... your mom absolutely loves it and is a fan. She goes wild.

Secondly, here is how I see the Rams this season...

As we never play starters in preseason, we should be expected to start slow. And that is what we did with the Titans, and even the Texans. But in the second half of both games, we got our flow. Thinks starting clicking.

If we are to compare last season, to this one... we are starting off much faster and better. We all remember last season's first few games, Rams went out and took a massive dump on the field. No one blocked, no defense and no consistency and or continuity. BUT, when we look at this season, we are catching our stride much earlier.

Yesterday in that first half, I just knew we were a better team. We just didnt show up in the first two qtrs. Made the halftime adjustments, got that rhythm, and a little bit of luck... we started to roll.

So to me, McVay as our fearless leader, needs to figure out that sweet spot so to speak. Where to get the guys to mentally. Set them up for success. When McVay and Stafford are on that burner, NO ONE and and I MEAN NO one can stop us. Same with Shula, yes... we have not given up many points, but we sure have given up a lot of yards in the first half... so I say the same thing to Shula... find that mojo and lead our D to be what is can be.

Thank you for your attention in this matter. DM

One reason for the better start is we are much healthier than we were the last two seasons. Adams looks like the real deal so far.

I know I may get some heat on this comment, but the move over to Adams seems to be the correct move. Loved Kupp, but his injuries were becoming to frequent, therefore we couldn't count on him as much. Adams is hungry, and you can tell, the man really wants a chip. Adams seems like a Kupp, but when Kupp was in his prime (in a way).

I think we both agree on this comment. Kupp had seemed to lose a little something. Could have just been injury hangover. Kupp seems to be a great person and smart player. I would love to see him be successful except when it is detrimental to the Rams.

Not sure on the redzone point. Just gotta give it to a back. Not the tush push with Stafford, and not Stafford in the shotgun. Both KW and BC have the muscle to punch it in. Just gotta give it to them.

Guess I will beat my dead horse here again on this point : Not playing Beaux Limmer inside will matter in this game. His size & strength matters on the Rams IOL. He was not and will not be rag dolled inside by the Philly DL .

It’s good that Dedich got more experience. They can compare his performance to Limmer’s in week one. Both might be needed in Philadelphia.

I’m predicting big catches by Atwell and Ferguson this Sunday.

I said 1/2 the group. Was not specifically talking about any one person. We have a good many people that will talk out both sides of their mouth depending on the day. One day saying they are the best player and the next day they are the worst and should retire. Big difference in criticizing a play or even a game vs saying stuff like McVay’s sucks!

My comment was just saying if we lose Sunday, there will probably be some people saying we need to replace McVay or Stafford needs to retire.
