Is McSnead as smart as they think they are?

Post by Slickjack »

I have to give them credit for building a Super Bowl winning team and have hit on the last two drafts. However, they have really given up a lot for Goff, Stafford , Ramsay and Fiske among others. If they pull through this year, I will be convinced but I am not real sold on their smartest guy in the room routine. Also, they get nothing in return when they part with players.

The business he is in is not an exact science. Fans continue to forget this. But since him n McVay came together the record is undeniable. 77-49 with a you know what. That is all that matters in his business. And like with McVay, if Sneed became available he would have another GM job in 2 seconds……………….

Hopefully the McVay/Snead regime has learned some lessons regarding unnecessarily premature contract extensions, to me that's what has been most problematical in its leadership of the Rams franchise.

Of course, one has to credit that leadership via the classic saying that "Nothing succeeds like success..." 8-) :!:

of course you do.... lol, no in this case I happen to agree with you, Norcal, the numbers speak for themselves, top two or three record since he became the head coach, the success is undeniable and not a lot of luck like Andy Reid finding Patrick Mahomes and Howie Roseman is just Howie Roseman

Now I still reserve the right to discuss the nuances of building a football team, I still don't understand why Ernest Jones isn't on our team and maybe a better linebacker makes one of those plays on Saquon and we are holding a second ring

but yeah McSnead is pretty damn good

Please don't use Fiske as an example. Not unless you would be willing to trade him for a late 2nd this year, and a late 2nd next year. And nobody outside of this forum has said that they over paid for Stafford.

They've drafted 3 rookies of the year in their regime. Yea, I'd call them pretty smart.

Kupp Nacua, Kobe to name a few of their mid, to late round selections. I think they'd be included in the group of smartes people in the room.

How about Von Miller for a 2 & 3 for one half of a season?

Did that half season include any kind of memorable playoff run? If unsure, ask Mcvay if you can take a peek in his jewelry box.

You really have to question someone who questions the Von Miller trade with the end result being what it was.

Yup. Obviously he's trolling, and I'm like a big dumb bass who keeps biting on the same bait!

I am very happy with where the Rams are as an organization, but there are plenty of bad roster moves too. They trade Ernest Jones for a sixth and a few weeks later the Titans trade him for a 4th is another example. How many times have they cut Reeder and Rozenboom only to bring them back? Robert Woods and Van Jefferson, each for a 6th....

I agree that some of the contract/FA stuff has been head-scratching. But show me an organization that has nailed every aspect of roster management and salary cap. It's what makes the NFL so dang interesting. And I love that LA is willing to roll the dice (Miller, OBJ, Ramsey) rather than just sit back and be analytical and safe.

It DOES seem like they have learned some lessons along the way as well. Cooper Kupp being in Seattle right now is exhibit A. Overall - I wouldn't trade seats with just about any fan base at this point, other than maybe KC and Philly.

It made very little sense to trade Ernest Jones IV at all last year, yet even less sense to do so while getting almost nothing in return, when they should have been able to get a third-round draft pick for the guy. (Near midseason, when he had less value at the time, the Titans still received a fourth-round selection and a player from the Seahawks for Jones.)

I'm darkly suspicious that the McVay/Snead regime deliberately all but gave the guy away (a swap of the Titans' sixth-round pick for the Rams' seventh-round one) as a 'parting shot' to demonstrate how little our team valued him; for some reason Sean McVay seemed to really dislike Jones, although he was the Good Guys' best ILB/MLB since London Fletcher over two decades ago.

Now that the Rams have to replace the guy during the impending NFL draft, it would be helpful for them to have the third-round choice they should have gotten for him last August... :? :x

If they pay more for Ramsay than they received to trade him in the first place, I will be very disappointed. With that in mind, positive vibes for tonight! They may be on to something new by trading away next year's second rounder to move up again.

So with all the injuries the Rams began the year with (it was completely uncommon), and new faces (players and coaches) and youth (one of the League’s youngest rosters obviously)…and yet they finished the year as one of the League’s fiercest teams…you still seem to only focus on how E. Jones might have put them over the top or whatever. You realize they could have finished as one of the teams picking first in tonight’s draft had things gone as you were predicting after a handful of games.

Instead of focusing on the Jones mystery, maybe realize how they hit so much of this franchise right out of the park with successful moves. The Rams are a legit contender going into this season. So scratch your head about why they let Jones go so unexpectedly all you want, I’m kinda busy being impressed with all the things they did/are doing right. Blows my mind all the never-ending/disproportional whining.

RP,
No one is whining , just stating facts. Do you think the Rams stood a better chance against the Eagles with Jones at MLB or Rozenboom who had been cut at least times 3 previously ?

No whining lol.

It’s draft night. The last two drafts Nucua, Avila, Turner, Young, Evans, Verse, Fiske, Corum, Kinchen, Jackson, Davis, Karty, Whittington, Limmer…

How many times DOZENS of times do we need to hear about Jones? Do we even know the story? Let it go for fucks sake.

You will go to great lengths to make your point , but you didn't answer my question about Jones. Nevertheless, you are clearly a great fan, I respect your points above and wish nothing but the best for the organization and results for tonight.

Agreed! The discussion was *only* about Ernest Jones IV being traded for almost nothing by the McVay/Snead regime, something which I strongly suspect was based on personality conflict rather than 'the good of the team,' as Sean McVay claimed at the time.

The current issue is, of course, the Rams drafting a decent replacement for Jones... :? :)
