Think Rapp lost his starting job

Post by EastBayRamsFan »

I know there must be others on this board who have noticed how well David Long JR, Scott, and Weddle have improved the middle of our defensive backfield. Fuller is solid but somethings are tacit and Rapp can’t cover the TE over the middle and never helps deep.

I was at the game last Monday night and I was super impressed with the safety play between the 3 of them.

My concern with this secondary now that Rapp is gone ( I hope so ) , is actually WILLIAMS . Dude is SO inconsistent . One game he will play extremely well , next game , misses tackles and can't cover to save his life .

Rapp is slow. When the Rams drafted him I pointed that out. Not a twitch athlete. Rams should cut him

I haven’t been a fan of Scott just like I was never a fan of Troy Hill. Maybe they both just needed more reps. But i will agree that Scott has really stepped up big time these past two games.

I hope we replace both Rapp and Williams this offseason. Losing Johnson was a bad move, but due to salary restrictions we had to make a choice between LB and S. I’m still not sure we made the right call.

Would you rather have John Johnson and maybe a Melvin Ingram (who was a free agent). Or are we better with Rapp and Floyd?

I know hindsight is always 20/20 but I mentioned on here several times that I thought Johnson was the guy we should keep. It’s too late now, but I hope we learn from our mistakes.

Rams didn't extend DW after last very good season, Rams FO learned from their previous extension mistakes and it is paying off.

DW went from being a top 10 paid cb to being a mid range paid starting DB.

I still think Floyd (who really signed a 2 yr deal) was the right move. He has had a solid year too. No one knew the rams would have been able to get Von mid season. I like JJ but not sure he was worth what he got either. He isntbtearing it up with the Browns. Who knows how good he would have been with Morris. With that said the rams need to bring in another safety to add to Scott, Fuller and Burgess. Rapp isn't the answer.

Nick Scott, wow, he is playing as well as any rams safety has over the years.

Just look at our past two defensive games. Best of the season maybe.

To be fair, he maybe still a good player. But not for this team. He screws it up. We all know it

I agree that Scott has been great but lets not forget that Hopkins didnt play in game 1 and Godwin and Brown in game 2. That makes significantly less challenging for secondary. I am not a Rapp fan at all but that can not be ignored.

Rapp should stay on the sidelines whether it’s in uniform or in street clothes……….

Let’s have only Reeder as the target of the niners offense instead of both him and Rapp……..

Or if Jones is back………..

PFF likes Travon Howard, I like throwing Hollins in there, he's big and athletic, violent athletes clogging running lanes is what we need

If Rapp is always out of position isn't that the defensive coaches responsibility to correct that? It doesn't seem like a real big issue to correct.

The secondary has played much better in the last two games, not perfect, but there has been an improvement.

In my opinion, Rapp plays safe. Meaning, he starts generally in the right position but plays so he does not get beat deep and does not make plays where he might miss a tackle or coverage. In other words, we don't need him. We need play makers and DBs willing to tackle and play better coverage.

I have been critical of Rapp. Is it no coincidence that Rams play there better defensive games with Rapp out? That the "fill-ins" are making plays? I don't think so. Rapp should be benched and start Burgess and Scott.

I don't see how they let him play unless subbing for an injury. Cannot let this D momentum go. He can play for Reeder. May be a better tackler.

I would prefer Ernest Jones over Reeder. I hope Rapp is benched.

Nick Scott made more plays the last 2 weeks than I’ve seen Rapp make his entire career.

Scott defending Gronk was outstanding defense yesterday, something Rapp I don’t think is capable of. Still not a fan of Weddle and his head hunting almost cost the Rams huge yesterday

Maybe more gamesmanship by McVay. Let Shanahan gameplan for Rapp being in there then start Scott. I don't think we see much of Rapp again.

Gameplan for Rapp?? I guess that means gameplan for 11 vs 10 bc Rapp either covers grass or out of position.

Huh?? Rapp might have lost his starting slot?? What REALLY needs to happen is for Rapp to lose his 53-man roster slot.
I've been watching NFL football since the mid-1950s and Rapp is the absolute most ineffective safety I've ever seen. He's a liability -- plays scared and is inevitably out of position. Leave him on the bench PERMANENTLY.

There are so many posts about how we beat the 49ers this time-change this - change that. Don't play Rapp and win the turnover battle -- boom we win big-that's my take!
