Sony Michel

Post by NN1Badboy »

This guy has played like a stud for us all season. It is a huge mistake to leave him out of any game plan. I know Akers is the man going forward, but if we are going to win a championship game we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in one basket. Michel has earned it and he rarely fumbles. Akers nearly cost us the game today.

On top of that two fumbles in the red zone is unacceptable. One by Kupp and one by Akers just before half would have put this game out of reach.

And lastly, how stupid was the decision to draft TuTu Atwell over Creed Humphrey. I’ve said it numerous times and I will continue to beat that drum. Humphrey may be the difference between a Super Bowl win or loss.

not using michel is extremely stupid . What does it take to earn mcvay's trust ? cmon now . Michel has been nothing but a class act warrior that runs SUPER hard and gets extra yards every carry , why SHUT him out like this when akers is just coming back from injury ? he is looking good but it seems mcvay totally overused him for no REASON at all since we have an extremely good 2nd runner in michel . they should SPLIT the carries and not just for now , but for good . About allen snapping the ball ....I mean..what can we say ?

Very unfair on Michel. A really odd decision if there's no injury.

How can you use a player just coming off a significant injury for 100% of the snaps when you have a very solid #2 back?

Can't think of an occasion all season where we've used just one back. Madness.

Mcvay doesn't like rb rotations. He likes to build
the game plan around one back. Feels that feeding a back helps him get into a grove and flow into the game.

With that said, I figured Sony would get at least 5 carries.

McVay has always been challenged in rotating his backs...it should be a huge advantage to have fresh legs and different running styles alternating...McVay tends to lock in on only one...we are going to need the best of both against the 9ers...

In all honesty, at least half the team in the nfl prefer to have a main back over a rotation.

With that said, I am surprised that Sony didn't at least get 5 carries

I agree. Akers is going to be the top guy but I feel like Sony deserved some more playing time than he got. It's better for the team and better for Akers too.

The guy is only 26 years old. Give him the rock now and then. Per PFR he had over 800 yards rushing and started half the games. He is a worth a handoff or four.

Michel or Akers.. don't matter this week, cause we aint gonna run against SF. So Mcvay needs to get creative on how to use these guys in other ways then check downs in the flats cause they will sniff that out also.

Going forward we need to hang on to all three backs Akers, Michel and Henderson would make a fine rotation if used the right way. Michel is the power back we need. He got a screw job in this game. Plain and simple.

Based on the past it would not surprise me one bit if McVay simply forgot to rotate Michel in, in which case his OC or RB Coach should have intervened.

Unless he’s injured or there is some other mitigating factor, not putting in Michel for more carries is criminally stupid, and the Rams almost paid the ultimate price of giving away a playoff game.

Not only was Akers averaging a minuscule 2yds/carry, he fumbled twice.

To those who say McVay prefers one primary back, WTF? he mixed them in a nice one-two punch in the Wild Card game:

Akers - 17 carries, 55 yds
Michel - 13 carries, 58 yds

I still don’t get it, at least we survived this brain f@rt.

I really like Michel.
He is not as explosive as Akers and does not bring as much to the passing game.
Akers is RB1.
Akers has not been a fumbler, terrible game on Sunday. That said, unless he fumbles against 49ers, I expect to see Akers 70% of the time as well as at end of game.

I expect McVay to play both 1 & 2 RB substantially.

Michel has earned his role, had a better yds/carry avg in the Wild Card game and AFAIK has not had multiple fumbles in one game.

bigklein wrote: January 25th, 2022, 8:15 am Michel fumbled once early in the season and was then benched a little while. Henderson’s injury issues helped Michel get more into the action, and he pretty much improved every game. The Rams might not have reached the playoffs without him.

McVay’s rotations on both sides of the ball against AZ were great, and the team played 4 strong quarters, unlike week 18 or the TB playoff. The breakdown point seemed to be right before halftime. Maybe he should have more fresh legs in to finish the second qtr this Sunday.

This might be crazy, but I keep picturing Michel and Akers occasionally in the same backfield with a fake, say, to Michel running inside and then giving it to Akers to run outside or to catch a screen.
hopefully McVay learned his lesson...time will tell

Akers is better than Michel. Akers wasn't careless with the ball. Fumbles happen, but they don't occur with any level of predictability. The Rams aren't good at running the ball. We're nearer to the bottom than the top of the rushing totals list, and that happened with a lot of leads and garbage time to eat up. We're a passing team.

does not matter who carries the ball against SF. Our Oline needs to win in the tranches.

I honestly think this game comes down to our Oline and their D-front....WE win this, WE win the game.

Well, what if our D-front losses to the niners Oline and Rams Oline beats 9ers D front?

Head scratcher. lol.

But, I get it. Just giving you a hard time.
yeah have to win both to win this game. unless JimmyGQ can have multiple turnovers which could happen

Agree on the line performance but totally disagree that it doesn’t matter who carries the ball.

You rotate in based on situation, fresh legs and who’s performing better on that day.

We’ll never know how Michel would have rushed against the Bucs because he sat on the bench until McVay gave him one carry midway through the 4th quarter.
