I believe $24.7M dead cap for Goff and $8.4M dead cap for Gurley both come off this offseason.

If we have plenty of cap space the draft capital we spent won't be so restrictive and you would think we'd be a popular destination for vets who want to win. Won't that be amazing considering our old position of having to pay more to lure talent

Not that rosy I'm afraid. We currently roll over approx £130k in cap space, even with all that dead money off the books.

Big decisions to be made on Woods, Robinson, etc. Plus Whit may decide to walk. But we have no wiggle room at all.

Could force us to extend Stafford earlier than we may wish to? That would free up some cap also. There's also potential restructures that can be done I imagine?

Rams also have a lot of FA's to sign. Either OBJ or Woods will have to go. Getting rid of Robinson would also save cap space but he has played so well the last two games I think Rams should keep him and extend his contract to save cap space.

This jerk from Bleacher report says we're dead if we don't beat TB this week but I sorely disagree

I think we gotta go for it and try Boom at LT
If he’s not ready now he never will be ,WHIT is 15MM, also a Woods trade might make sense, I would also consider a move with Higs
I understand these are all very very very painful decisions.

Those three moves plus a Stafford extension might allow us to resign all our UFAs and OBJ and Von

Now we can also go the other way and let OBJ and Von walk because we definitely will get some pretty high compensatory picks for them, But that’s a lot of talent to let walk I kind of like resigning OBJ I think he’ll take an LA haircut and he’s also four years younger than Von

We can’t get rid of Floyd, no one will choke down that contract.

I would keep VonM over OBJ if Woods is back. Would keep all those guys with exception of Whit maybe (assume he retires- no way he wants to go anywhere but home). Restructure whomever needs it- they are all worth keeping. I would trade Floyd too if we can save 20mm and pay VonM. But doubt that happens.

If we could get rid of Floyd that would be a very good move-Woods is a must keep if he's healthy because the offense runs so much smoother with him in there. Maybe OBJ could become what Woods is to the offense but I'm not certain he could or would be willing to. Von Miller is playing well but I'd be OK if he left and we replaced him with a younger guy. What happened to Terrell Lewis-he looked good then just went invisible. The safeties have been far weaker than I expected for sure-need some new blood back there. O-line needs some beef in the middle but you can probably get that in the draft if we don't draft 5 WR's this year. I know- a lot of holes to fill but no team is stacked at every position and a full offseason with Stafford and a healthy RB group lead me to think our offense could be better next year.

That's the eventual problem with 'back-loading' player contracts, isn't it?

This is why I'm figuring that Odell Beckham, Jr. and Von Miller were effectively 'half-year rentals' for our team... :( :? :x

Both Odell Beckham, Jr. and Von Miller figure to be too expensive for the Rams to re-sign, and if it's a choice between Joe Noteboom and Andrew Whitworth at LT, obviously Noteboom is much younger.

If Robert Woods proves able to come back at 100% of his pre-injury form, then Beckham would become largely redundant, wouldn't he? He's playing hard for the Good Guys this season for one simple reason, to get a big-time contract as a free agent, one which our team lacks the salary-cap space to give him.

Difficult choices are facing the McVay/Snead regime during the upcoming offseason, there's no way of avoiding them... ;) :? :|

I don't know how we afford him but let's not forget McSnead brought OBJ to compliment RW and Kupp not to replace Woods who was not injured yet. I'd love to see what they had planned...

DMRamFan wrote: January 20th, 2022, 12:38 pm This is my sweet spot. I thoroughly enjoy numbers.

Although we have dead money coming off in '22, we have current contracts that kick in at a much higher amounts.

Here is our current status for 2022....

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/cap/

We do not know the exact amount of the cap, yet. But it is fairly certain it is in the $208-$212M range. Currently we are committed to $208M and some change.

So yes, we are in what some call... Cap Hell. BUT, rest assured Snead is already thinking about who to renegotiate/restructure with, who to cut, who to keep as is and so. Honestly there are so many different scenarios its nuts. Anything can happen, as we learned this last off season, then BOOM... many guys restructured and we got under the cap... barely.

The downside of all these restructures is that we are basically kicking the can down the road. The bills will come due eventually... its just a game though. IT IS A game to Snead though. He loves to flirt w the edge of the cap.

Below is a screen shot of '22's top pay outs... so the question is.. WHO do you restructure or just cut?

If it was me, I would try to find a team for Floyd. No way he is worth $20M next season. We need a taker to take his contract is the issue (sort of like the Goff contract). Can we find someone as desperate as the Lions to take on $20M for this guy. If we cut him, that is $27M in dead cap. What im not sure if we did trade Floyd after this season, if we are still responsible for the $27M dead money, anyone know that?

The way I see it, try to restructure some of our top guys if possible. There is NO way I would get rid of AD, Ramsey, Kupp, Woods, Hav,... some others I would be ok seeing gone.

Now the issue is, how can we afford new veteran blood? This my friend, remains to be seen...

:geek:
getting rid of Floyd's contract has to be #1 priority in the off season. OBJ and Miller will be gone as well. If Woods can come back healthy we should be ok at WR barring any injuries. Disagree on the Hav take. I would not pay him big money just not worth it. Robinson should be gone too IMO. Going to have to go into the mkt to get some good deals on Vets who can contribute next year.

Floyd, Whitworth, Robinson, and Rapp can all be replaced by cheaper and possibly better options. Stafford can be extended and Donald restructured. That’s a start…..
