Jeff Fisher years

Post by Rammo »

Wow-I was looking back at our season records from GSOT to now and forgot that Fisher laid the foundation for our current success. I did not like Fisher as our coach because the offense was so pathetic during those years but he did draft AD, Gurley etc. Snead was here and the drafts were very inconsistent but our record was near .500 and the ground work for McVay's success was done before he got here. I still wonder about Snead-is he good bad or mixed? Very aggressive-like it-willing to make the big trade-like it-unwilling to draft LBer's or O-line-don't like it ha ha

Snead with Fisher was actually a draft for the trenches kind of guy-now with McVay not so much-I guess he gives the HC what they want and that's OK with me.

There were some great games during the Fisher years and if he and the front office were able to put together a better O-Line we would have made the playoff a couple of those years. That's all I got!

Fisher was a huge improvement over Spags and Liningham, 8-8, and even that 7-9 bull___ was way better. We also beat Seattle and SF enough to show we’re were a competitive NFL team, but after a while, we seemed stuck in mediocrity.

Sure, agree. But Fisher was also wildly inconsistent. He routinely seemed to be easily out-coached. His teams were never close to contending for a title. I put that more on him then any other aspect of his teams. He was a great motivator I believe, but weak at the chalkboard (at least for the offense).

He just never got a real OC, I bet there were 2/3 unrealized wins on some of those teams

Fisher was to the Defense what McVay is to the Offense iMO. The problem for each of them was not knowing much about the other side of the ball and having to rely on someone else...
Having the right someone else is what has been the Rams problem ... for both regimes... although not as much with Sean.

Mcvay has found competent defensive coaches. Wade was solid, Staley was good and Morris is mediocre

Look over who Fisher found as OC coaches and the results every year were mediocre throughout the years at best

Fisher was defense minded, so he didn't want to hire anyone who would possibly challenge him on that side of the ball.

They did draft a lot of promising o linemen, but I don’t recall them being able to develop any of them. If Saffold was drafted by them, then he would be the exception.
Rodger Saffold was drafted (as a tackle) in 2010, which was Steve Spagnuolo's second year as our team's head coach.

Jeff Fisher's Rams teams always had a weak receiving corps, with starters like Brian Quick, Austin Pettis and Stedman Bailey, the best WR they ever had was Kenny Britt, who would have trouble even making the current team's roster.

The Fisher/Snead regime was good at drafting and developing defensive players, but it didn't draft any solid offensive players until near the end of its tenure, via Todd Gurley (2015), Jared Goff ('16) and Tyler Higbee ('16).

If "Greg the Leg" Zuerlein hadn't experienced an uncharacteristically poor season placekicking back in '15, that Rams team likely would have gone at least 9-7... :( :?

ram pathos...

Yes my memory is a really good defense and an absolutely pathetic offense. Run on first and second down then get sacked on third down. A Fisher/Mcvay team up would look on paper like a dream team but more probable would be sideline fisticuffs......
