Offering our Mile High Support
I apologize if I shouldn’t be posting. I read the rules stickied at the top; I didn’t see anything saying no newbie posts.
Today was a very gut wrenching day for most of Broncos Country. Age and decline in production aside, Von has been the heart and soul of our defense since his drafting. I’m an emotional Broncos fan, 3rd generation fan, followed my team since birth, before Elway even won his first Super Bowls. And I’ll say this; Von Is special. He single handily secured us SB 50 against the 15-1 “unstoppable” Cam Newton. (Who was never the same afterwards I’ll add) I’ll always want the best for Von.
In truth, he’s not without his flaws. Von had a tendency for getting hurt. He also wasn’t ever the most mature man in the room. Sadly he wasn’t a leader, and he won’t ever be that. However I will say he makes an incredible warrior, a colonel to the right General. If you guys can inspire him whether it’s in coaching or teammates on the field, he will fight his heart out. Von was at his best under the tutelage of Elvis Dumervile and Demarcus Ware/Wade Phillips. In Denver it’s obvious we are in rebuild mode. And sadly he won’t be the guy to take charge and turn things around.
A winning team, good coaching, good supporting cast, all those things appear to be on this Rams team. I fully expect him to not only flourish, but make a very big impact for you guys. In my opinion he still has plenty of gas in the tank. He’s still got that freak twitch in his step. It’s all about motivating him though. As a huge Von fan, I truly hope he is fired up in his new home. I want to see him succeed. Denver will always be my first and main love, but I’ll be keeping my eye on you guys for the rest of the season. I hope you guys do well. In the end, I would’ve still been heart broken if you gave up two firsts for him. He’s special special player. When he’s in the zone; he’s a Hall of Fame performer. I’ll be proud to see him recharge his career here.
Go Rams

Re: Offering our Mile High Support
I appreciate the friendly welcome. IMO the Rams are an easy team to be happy for. They’re not in our division/conference, they have a likable coaching staff and decent talent. It would’ve been a nightmare to see Von stay in the AFC. From what I know of the Rams front 7, I can’t think of many teams that will be able to handle this D.
Von gets romanticized as a pass rusher but his entire career he was an every down backer. Wasn’t situational like Khalil Mack and many other pass rushers. Von was consistently one of our better run defenders. AZ will struggle against this team. I don’t see Rodgers doing any better.

I saw a YouTube video today with someone singing "He's a Bronco for life!", and I thought: Ouch! I chose not to link or repost it on the Broncos section of an all-team forum. Never fun to see long-time players leave. I remember hating to see Kevin Greene on other teams.

Re: Offering our Mile High Support
He had a slight injury this year, from what I saw it was him over pushing himself. Without Chubb we had no pass rush opposite of him, and with zero interior rush we ONLY had Von (who was constantly chipped and doubled)DMRamFan wrote: ↑November 1st, 2021, 6:07 pm Great post and thank you DMike. Lots of good info in there. Welcome! Newbie post are of course welcome.
We gained Bulldawg the same way, except he was following Stafford and moved from the Lions to the Rams. He as well, gave us a lot of good insight to Staff, such as you just did w Von.
Please stick around here, be great to hear your input when he starts playing w us. My only issue w Von is his age and being injured a lot. Did he seem injured much this season?
He started the season on fire and healthy. But the minute it was obvious that our Teddy Bridgewater lead offense wasn’t going to have us competing this year he sort of hit cruise control.
((Keep in mind, Von’s “lazy” play still is good for 8-10 sacks in a season))
His age is an understandable deterrent, but he can play still. I highly suggest you look at his highlights for Denver’s first 3 weeks. Giants, Jets, and Jags.

Re: Offering our Mile High Support
Great post - thanks for your Mile-High insight. Very interesting on the strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully VM will buy in. I’m counting on him not only playing for the team but also trying to enhance his value going into free agency in 2022.
As a football fan for my entire life, one of my great memories was Miller’s incredible performance vs Cam Newton and the Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
We’re hoping Miller can raise the level of our D-line play and also provide help on containment on mobile QBs (cough, esp. that magician in AZ).
Go Rams! Beat the Titans!

I literally have nearly broken my TV on many occasion because Fangio would drop Von back into coverage. He would do it so often over his years as our HC, it really makes me wonder how Fangio has been lauded as such a brilliant defensive mind by literally not using the best player on your team. Von’s numbers would easily be twice as high this season if it weren’t for that. Wade never made such a foolish decision

What a thoughtful post, thank you! And thanks for your insight into Von.
I hope he still has plenty in the tank and can keep his health together for the remainder of this season.
Should be a vey interesting gamble on our parts.
Go Rams!

Honestly, there may well come a point when we will experience a similar transitioning of Aaron Donald.
Hopefully not anytime soon, but it might well happen toward the twilight of his career...

Re: Offering our Mile High Support
Well, Von should be really motivated for a few reasons. 1) To show Denver he still has some mojo left, 2)He becomes a FA so he needs to put some good stuff on tape, 3) He won't be double teamed since AD will take those honors. 4) He has a legitimate chance for a Super Bowl ring.
I feel sorry for him being up-rooted and having to suddenly move. I am sure he feels a little betrayed but he will feel welcomed with the Rams. I think it was a good trade for both parties. (I think two draft choices was a little high BUT we didn't have to pay his $9M.)
DenverMike, I am sure it sucks losing him. He has been part of the Denver family for awhile. We will make sure he feels at home as much as possible.

Re: Offering our Mile High Support
Yep great OP, thanks!
If Von Miller can't get totally jacked to play the rest of this season, he's either hurt or ready to retire.
The Rams have a true legit shot at a successful post season run and Super Bowl appearance. They play in what is likely the biggest entertainment (and potential endorsement) city in the US, if not the world…and the Rams brand is getting pretty hot. And yes, it's a contract year. Hell if you can't get motivated playing alongside AD, you're ready for the glue factory.
Of course I expect him to play to his full potential (hopefully the trade shock wears off quickly), and am really looking forward to it.
