Re: 8-67 Versus Winning Teams. That Can't Be <checking earpiece> I'm Actually Being Told That Is Correct.
That's been the knock on Stafford his whole career - he couldn't win the big games. Detroit made the playoffs 3 times with Stafford - all wildcard games and he went 0-3. Lost 26-6 at Seattle, lost 24-20 at Dallas and lost 45-28 at New Orleans. Hopefully he'll turn it around here. Steve Young managed to turn it around. Jim Plunkett (who should be in the HOF IMO) turned it around. Hopefully Stafford will too with a better organization around him...D-GenerationX wrote: ↑August 31st, 2021, 12:57 pm8 wins? In 12 years? C'mon, man. Can't dress that up.
I am still onboard with the trade. Jared Goff could not return. Well was too poisoned here.
But my question is this particular guy as the replacement. Forget Detroit. Go back to Georgia. Lost all his big games there too. Oh, lit it up against Kentucky. Showed Vanderbilt what was what. Florida? Alabama?? NOT SO MUCH.
This is more of a finger cross than a lot here let on. That's all. This will be no waltz to the SB.
And I PICKED THEM for the Super Bowl anyway!! So obviously, I need my own head examined.
Judge our new coach in his third year. After all our last coach was to game strategy what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles...

How come every other QB who Stafford is compared to or grouped with has managed to lead their team to repeated success but Stafford needs a so called "Championship Caliber" team to get him there.Cornell29 wrote: ↑August 31st, 2021, 1:08 pmThis
When looking at a MLB pitcher, you dont look at his win/loss record by itself bc they could be on a horrible team. You look at era, whip, run support, batting pct against too.
Same with Stafford. Look at all his numbers, not just win/loss. I never heard of a qb who makes the HOF solely based off his win/loss stat.
D-Gen has a very valid stat and we should be somewhat concerned about it. 8-67 vs teams with a winning record.... how is this to be blown off as nothing? With the odd exception like Tom Brady who took over an playoff caliber team from Bledsoe and turned it into a Championship Caliber team and kept it there for 20+ years, just about all the other top QB's took a garbage team and turned them into contenders and in some cases champs.... But Stafford, the King of garbage time stats with NO playoff success somehow gets a 12 year pass...
Not from me... no sir, not in a Professional team sport where he is the most important player to his team....
I remain cautiously optimistic and AFAIC he needs to prove it before I'm willing to anoint him or the Rams anything. I and I'm sure many others in Ram nation have had enough the misery from doing that same shit with other versions of the team over the decades. This assumptive attitude that we are guaranteed something because of this guy is no different and doesn't guarantee a damn thing til the games are played and we see what it is. I'm hoping that guarantee is a positive one and we're not making more excuses for Stafford...
Go Rams!

As if Jared Goff:
A. Had a SAY in the matter
B. Is WORTHY of having a say in the matter
You- D-Gen, trying to frame Goff as even a slightly above average Quarterback is a JOKE.
As if this is Aaron Rodgers and Gutenkunst or Tom Brady and Belichick trying to sort through matters.
Your little boy-crush Goff (either that or you suck at Quarterback evaluation) was KICKED OFF the Rams team by Sean McVay due to Incompetence, lack of growth and emotional maturity. He plain wasnt good enough. And Mac paid TWO 1st Rounders to make it happen. And it will be well worth it.
Goff COULDNT come back? If you actually believe that beside from the fact you DELUDE yourself with that, it is sadly laughable.
Goff is not worthy of a say in this matter.
A 24-32nd level Quarterback (I'm being nice) never is.
This thread has zero to do with Jared Goff though. Why do you insist on re-litigating his career with this team? Its the answer to a question no one asked.
You are like the guy that that tells people how awful a TV show it, but you still keep hatewatching it each week so you can keep doing your blog about how much it sucks.
Matt Stafford is the QB of your team. Live in the now.

Go re-read the first post in the thread, ace. The Jared Goff mention is....??BrooklynRam74 wrote: ↑September 3rd, 2021, 2:40 am It was YOUR Butthurt remark that Goff "COULDNT come back, well was too poisoned," At any point after the season did McVay or Snead even HINT at reconciliation ?
I'm long over Goff, but I'm not gonna sit here and let teenage girls imply that Goff's exodus was a two-way street. Just setting the record straight. And without your Ignorant statement I wouldnt have brought up JG.
Do it again, I'LL do it again. All good.
I see you also "conveniently" left out your quote where YOU brought up Jared, not anyone else. LOL. Nice try.
He is mentioned by me in my second post (the one you quoted) simply as a way to illustrate this was not about Jared Goff at all. It was about our current QB. But the mere mention of his name seems to be your bat signal. In you come on the white horse to "set the record straight". Again, to answer a question : NO ONE ASKED!!
You seem destined to become one of those "Samantha Bradford" cats. You do realize that, correct? Guys that talked about him months, and then eventually YEARS after he was on our squad.
It's sad, frankly. Awkward for the rest of us too. 'Fatal Attraction' was a movie, guy. Not a "how to" guide.

I'm hoping he settles down on the Goff obsession as the season gets going. But it's a coin flip, based on all available evidence so far.

JMO but does it really matter anymore if someone viewed/views Goff at a certain level of play now or when he was here……………..
Does it really matter anymore how one views the exit of Goff in regards to what took place between him and McVay/the team anymore……………
Me personally all I give a damn about this year is he plays well in 3 games and that he is god awful in one. The other 13 could careless. Moved on like the Rams. Discussion in here will be about this team not some past player.

Re: 8-67 Versus Winning Teams. That Can't Be <checking earpiece> I'm Actually Being Told That Is Correct.
Stafford and Goff were traded for each other, thus comparisons will be made. Hell the season hasn't even started yet, and we're supposed to move on from Goff?
I for one want him to play well for the Lions, for the most part of course. Lions are probably the only team I can stand in that division, and them winning games (esp. vs. NFC West) can benefit us obviously so big interest there. I also like the guy ok, so him doing well won't bother me at all on that level.
But the topic of was Goff "the" problem, and will Stafford be way better in a Rams uniform etc. etc. are legit sports topics. Like Goff, hate Goff, want the Goff topic to go away or whatever, it's not going to. Head to head trades have some fan interest/have some discussion value. Whether Goff plays poor, good or great this year is interesting to me. No, again there's no big emotional attachment, it's just interesting.
I can't see going out of my way to bash Goff, but we know all fans are different. Regardless, Goff has a chance to bounce back…or not. I'll watch him play whenever possible at this point…just prepare yourselves to how that all plays out to be discussed moving forward

I will say this, if Staff plays the same in GB that he has the past couple of weeks, its time to start thinking about some different options.

Let's be honest for a minute though. Thats not all on Matthew Stafford. The Lions record with him as a QB is 81-93-1. So yeah, it definitely wasn't all on Stafford.

you are 100% correct. this again is a team game and the QB gets too much credit when they win and too much credit when they loseFelixTheStonerCat wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 11:43 am Let's be honest for a minute though. This whole debbie downer thing that sometimes hits our board like a cancer, gets tiresome from these posters, Felix. Glad you are upbeat like me.
Im no Stafford mom, but lets see how he finishes the year. If we continues down this path of the last few weeks, then we may need to start looking at other options for 2022. I absolutely do not want to be stuck in a Matt Ryan situation, where every year we are a bit above average. LA needs to shine.

I mean, look who he had as his play makers in Detroit. Other then Calvin Johnson, he had a revolving door of receivers. Never had a good ground game, and had a good defense once. How can you win anything when you didn't have the pieces like Matthew Stafford hasn't had with Detroit? I'm one of the biggest Stafford fans here. Always have been.ocram23 wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 11:46 amyou are 100% correct. this again is a team game and the QB gets too much credit when they win and too much credit when they loseFelixTheStonerCat wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 11:43 am Let's be honest for a minute though. I came back to it because I thought it was interesting that Stafford has always struggled against good teams with some exceptions like the Tampa game. On the flip side Goff generally played well against strong competition but would sometimes lay a major huevo against poor teams like the Fins last year and also the Jets. The Lions in 2018 etc. Always dominated the Cards but always sucked against the niners. Goff always looked so calm in prime time games but Stafford has the deer in the headlights look in those big primetime games.
Goff in the Tampa Monday nighter last season. 51 pass attempts and a pretty good game. 3 TD's and almost 400 yards passing. Couple weeks later he lights up the Cards and goes 37 of 47 attempts for 351 yards and a big win. That Monday nighter against the Bears 23 of 33 and 2 TD's.
I guess in primetime Goff looked good within the system and Stafford has not looked good on the big stage. 0-3 in the playoffs.

Neither Goff or Stafford are huge play extenders with their legs of course. Dominate the Rams O-line and derail the running game is a good way to slow a pocket passer down obviously. Everybody is not Tom Brady in the pocket. Most of today's top QB's have the legs.DMRamFan wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 12:54 pmSome valid points, but I have to disagree about the dear in the headlights look. That was Goff to a tee. BUT, in Goff's defense he did show up at times in big games.toast49 wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2021, 12:44 pm I came back to it because I thought it was interesting that Stafford has always struggled against good teams with some exceptions like the Tampa game. That being said....I cant figure out Stafford. He is very up and down. One week, its lights out... the other, it looks like his lights got knocked out. But bottomline, you know Stafford is an upgrade. You have to know that. Come on Toasty... but it is discouraging when we have a QB go from MVP talk to lets NOT extend him YET, talk.
No one in here is denying that Stafford has crapped the bed in the past two weeks. But, lets give it till the end of the season. The issue is, im not sure what QB would do good when your OL isn't blocking, your head coach wont establish a run and your receivers drop the ball like we have been doing lately OR let the ball go through their hands to give it to the defense...
This wkend will tell me what we are made of.
Agree?
We know why Goff struggled the last two years in LA. We know why Stafford did the last two games. The Rams physically have been steamrolled. And I said I didn't think the Titans were as good as their record relative to the League overall. It's kinda of the Cardinals, and then everyone else. The Rams can struggle with the physical teams.
Give Stafford some field position, some reasonable pocket of comfort and legit run game. Goff could look good under the right conditions too, but Stafford is simply the better QB = what's Goff's record in Detroit if that's Stafford's measure? It's not about crapping the bed, it's about why did it happen. The Rams have to play physical in this second half the season. McVay isn't going to run the ball if he see's it shut down at the LOS and the O-line being dominated - he's going to turn the game over to Stafford, Stafford who has seen that before (lack of run support and playing from behind).
The Rams to a man were embarrassed by TENN & SF. OMG yes the drops alone vs. SF. That whole game went off the rails. It's a long season, but the Rams can't play soft anymore regardless. A lot of teams can still make a run, or self destruct.
