USA Today's Draft Mag Board, and a mock from it
As a geek, I always check the draft mags when they come out, and sometimes buy one or two. I bought the USA Today Sports Special Edition draft report yesterday, and found a few surprises. To wit:
* I've been touting Kevin Hogan all along, seeing him as a great Rd 4 pickup. He's the 5th best in USAT's rating, behind Prescott (who I liked in the 3rd). Mag's got Hogan as a 3/4 pick, Prescott as 2/3.
* WR rankings will be all over the place, I'm thinking. USAT's got Doctson ahead of Treadwell, followed by Coleman, Sterling Shepard (really?), Fuller, Miller and Boyd. They have Thomas as 10th best, Core as 13th best (3/4 rounder). Interesting. I've been long-and-strong on Doctson as the top pick, with a trade-down, but he seems to be climbing the boards, so might be gone by 20. Will he be the first WR off the board?
* They see Henry as the best TE, a 2nd rounder. They've got him at 4.75, though he ran a 4.67 at his Pro Day. Still like him at 43 or 45.
* FS is clearly the biggest need on D, and a huge surprise is USAT's dropping Darian Thompson, who I liked potentially as a second rounder (often mocked there), all the way to 5/6 round, 15th best safety, 8th best FS. 17 picks, 209 tackles for Boise State. One guy I hadn't paid much attention to, Sean Davis, isn't big (6'1" 200), but 4.46 and 319 tackles for Maryland.
* And in the last "need" (IMHO) position, center, they have Kelly on top (they group G/C, and he's behind only Garnett overall), but have Glasgow next, ahead of Martin, both of them 3/4 round. If either's there at 110 they'd be good picks for the Rams.
Back to my "ideal" mock, based on USAT's rankings. Trade down to 22-23 and grab Doctson (risky, but hey, it's a MOCK!). That brings a 3rd and 4th, maybe 86 and 118. With 43 and 45, Henry and OLB Fackrell (they like him a lot). In the 3rd, 76 brings TJ Green (FS) and 86 brings Nick Martin. 110 and 118 (still need a QB and DT backup) bring Hogan (I'm still thinking he'll be there, despite USAT's prediction) and a DT, Ridgeway or Henry or ?
Mock, today, with tradedown: Doctson, Henry, Fackrell, Green, Martin, Hogan, Ridgeway/Henry. Plus the 6th...what the heck, Cassanova McKinzy, just for his name (always a risk bringing an Auburn guy to the Rams, though...)

Good write up and analysis.
I would support a trade down but only a few spots. NOT with teams like DEN
Go Rams!!1

I like that type of draft. Doctson, Henry, Martin, and Hogan are enough for me to give it a thumbs up

As much as I am hoping the Rams can get Goff, Wentz or Lynch in this Draft if they come away with the above four players I will be thrilled! Their offense would be instantly and dramatically improved!!!NN1Badboy wrote:I like that type of draft. Doctson, Henry, Martin, and Hogan are enough for me to give it a thumbs up
