There is talk that RW3 wants out of Seattle.. But LA wasn't on his list of teams he'd wave the no trade clause for...DMRamFan wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 7:17 amYep. On point and I agree.Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 7:09 am I get the point about the capital spent on the trade.
The only way they would/should have kept Goff, the picks and the cap space would have been imo, for them to take a step back and live with Goff for one more year so they could get out of his deal less scathed. But that would have meant probably not challenging for squat this year and sucking up another disappointing season.
That isn't who McSnead are and here we are today...
Who knows how that would have worked out, It is what it is now.
GO RAMS!
Plus, the more I think about this, if we did keep Goff and then cut him loose this off season, who would we have gone after? Staff would have been traded somewhere else already. I also don’t see some awesome stand out QB in college this draft. We made the right move.
Especially if Staff plays like he did last ngt the rest of the season. This question won’t be brought up again.
Wilson = .500 season……………Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 7:20 amThere is talk that RW3 wants out of Seattle.. But LA wasn't on his list of teams he'd wave the no trade clause for...DMRamFan wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 7:17 am Yep. On point and I agree.

Really. You mean with our personnel or in General?NorCal RF wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 10:28 amWilson = .500 season……………Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 7:20 am There is talk that RW3 wants out of Seattle.. But LA wasn't on his list of teams he'd wave the no trade clause for...
Unless I was a team like Carolina or New Orleans, desperate for a QB, I wouldn’t want him……………..Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 10:48 amReally. You mean with our personnel or in General?
The guys never had a .500/losing season... 9 years but we're going to put an end to that on Sunday, imo..
This post fails to realize the prime of our current players. Aaron Donald is 30, Kupp is 28, Jalen is 27, Woods is 29. We can't wait! If we would have stood pat and didn't do anything not only would we have needed a qb but also we would have wasted irreplaceable players.DMRamFan wrote: ↑December 13th, 2021, 11:00 am Just hear me out before you all lose your minds.
Ok, been away for a while living life and doing life things. Got to thinking about just this subject.
What if we kept Goff?
Now, I wanted Goff gone. I was fed up with him. I know we needed to make a change, and almost everyone else in here thought this as well. Stafford is an absolute upgrade, thats not what I am trying to hit on here. But, lets look at something here...
If we had kept Goff, we would most likely be in the range of 9-8 or 10-7. With Stafford its looks like we could end up at 10-7 or 11-6 at best imo.
I wont repeat everything we gave up to secure Staff, for we all know it... but was getting the same record or a one more win w Staff, worth it?
I mean who really cares about win/loss, as long as we get into the playoffs and win. Thats the point of all this, so the jury is still out for me until we are in the playoffs. We will see how Staff and McVay do when we get there, for this is what counts.
But the point of this question is, if we do end up w the same records and lose in the first or second round of the playoffs as we did in 2020. Was it all worth it to secure Stafford? If we had kept Goff and got rid of him this offseason, we would be in a pretty good cap space AND have multiple draft picks for 2022 and beyond.
Again, this IS NOT a bash Goff thread, its simply a business question. Time will tell if we made the right choice of course. But if we lose 3 or 4 more games, barely squeak into the playoffs and go to Green Bay and lose again... Im sorry, but to me... It wasnt worth it. Im a Stafford fan, I was such a homer there for a while. I was all in. Still am to a point, but we need to beat good teams. Just beating Tampa this far into the season isn't strong evidence that we are a GREAT team.
Anyways... who knows right. Just spit balling here...
I think he's still got lots left.NorCal RF wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 10:52 amUnless I was a team like Carolina or New Orleans, desperate for a QB, I wouldn’t want him……………..Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 10:48 am Really. You mean with our personnel or in General?

Now 5 years ago………………
Oh there will be interest no doubt. I just don’t think he has a lot left……………Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 11:06 amI think he's still got lots left.
We may find out this off season, if the rumor is legit, how much interest there is...
May be it for Pete Carroll if he goes...NorCal RF wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 11:23 amOh there will be interest no doubt. I just don’t think he has a lot left……………Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 11:06 am I think he's still got lots left.

And I do think he is done in Seattle. Both need a new direction……………….
I think they both go…………..Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2021, 11:38 amMay be it for Pete Carroll if he goes...
Doubt he would want to be a part of a rebuild at his age...
that's funny away from the big contract. that is a huge reason why they got rid of him...the money they were paying him didn't warrant keeping himRampager66 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:25 am We should have kept Goff..... away from the big contract, never mind a year too early.... :(
I know, but I wonder how things may have played out if they never re-upped him when they didn't have to, and waited.ocram23 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:39 amthat's funny away from the big contract. that is a huge reason why they got rid of him...the money they were paying him didn't warrant keeping himRampager66 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:25 am We should have kept Goff..... away from the big contract, never mind a year too early.... :(
DP's bring you the team friendly contracts needed to help navigate the cap.... We'll have very few of them over the next few years and my fear is they will be stuck IMO overplaying and overpaying in the FA Market...DMRamFan wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:55 amI believe Goff's agent was sort of putting the Rams on the spot, fresh off of a Super Bowl appearance and just look how hard it is to find your franchise QB. 9-10 teams would do just about anything for a new franchise QB right now. The Rams also didnt want to push the extension out, for they had worried if Goff had another stellar season, that they would get into a bidding war. This is everything I had read in the process.Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:46 am I know, but I wonder how things may have played out if they never re-upped him when they didn't have to, and waited.
They could have walked from him after 2020 or signed him for way less.
Perhaps they're in on Brady and he comes here instead of to TB.... who knows...
It is what it is now and Staff is looking better then Goff ever did.
This is why I started the thread, in retrospect.... was it the right move now that we are about done with the Reg season with Stafford. For me, it was the right move... and the one and only reason I believe this now, is that the Lions picked up most of his contract. Thank goodness they did... I mean that really saved us. How well Stafford has done is just extra in a way. The main reason again, is that we got out of that contract. Right now, we are not committed to Stafford after next season.
Which brings me to my next thread... 'Keep Stafford...?'
Clearly, Stafford is better to have taking snaps at the moment but overall I am still on the fence about the whole expensive ordeal. There are so many things that they could have done differently. The contract amount; they could have franchised him; or had a one on one guru work with him instead of the impatient McVay; they could have just let him walk away, and who knows what would have happened? etc. Maybe the window for winning was too short for Goff here.. Maybe not. I just don't know.Rampager66 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 11:46 amI know, but I wonder how things may have played out if they never re-upped him when they didn't have to, and waited.

Absolutely Agree... Don't think he was ever going to be great but he is a gamer and has some tools... and in the right situation, with the right coaching, team mates....Rammer wrote: ↑December 20th, 2021, 12:20 pmClearly, Stafford is better to have taking snaps at the moment but overall I am still on the fence about the whole expensive ordeal. Unlike Bradford though, I don't think this guy is a weenie or trying to steal money.. He takes abuse and just keeps bouncing back. Right now, I would rate him as middle of the road, not terrible. He seems to have a good attitude, is still relatively young, is tough, durable and more talented than most give him credit for. So unlike many here who think he totally sucks, I actually still think he can be a good starter again in the right situation. Maybe even top 8 or 9 with some work. We see glimpses of this, even this year with the lowly Lions. And dare I say it? but over the past month or so , he has actually looked pretty good. So, it is in there somewhere.
