Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
This was touched on during carolina game. Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch. And not jet sweep. I mean with corum and Williams. Just not in corum and KW wheel house? Offensive line not physical enough?

It’s funny, McVay has barely, if ever done this and I’ve never understood why… I mean we have the talent to pull it off… be great to see it happen.

He called a pitch to KW last year vs Eagles, KW fumbled it. He called a pitch to Corum last year and he fumbled it.
Rams backs aren't good at it.
He use to do it a lot TG.

Re: Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
They haven't had a long TD run since Gurley. You run the Pitch out with a back with breakaway speed and we don't really have that and haven't for some time AFAIC. They activated Hunter for Yesterdays game and I was kinda hoping we'd coast a bit and get to see him get some touches. Probably have to wait til next year now.

Re: Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
We probably would if the Rams still had a running back like Eric Dickerson.
I think our O-Line is good, if not great when healthy.....but both Corum and Williams are "between the tackle" backs. More Marcus Allen than Eric Dickerson.

Re: Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
i've been saying this for a very very very long time, but the Rams need to run a shuttle pass which is a slightly forward pitch because if it's dropped and fumbled it's an incomplete pass, we used to do it with Marshall Faulk
The reason we need to do it is because it gives you more leverage when you're running from the shotgun, Stafford hardly ever ever ever has a running play when he's in the gun

I always wonder why they don't throw to the backs more. I've been asking that since the Steven Jackson days.

Re: Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
I think quick draws out of the shotgun work really well and catch the defense off guard.. I was hoping, really thinking McVay was gonna be clever and run a quick run out of the shotgun on that 3rd and 2 down in the redzone against Philly in the divisional.. but they passed on 3rd and 2 took a horrible sack that cost a SB. RUN IT TWICE IF NEED BEtherealheadslap75 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2026, 7:53 pm i've been saying this for a very very very long time, but the Rams need to run a shuttle pass which is a slightly forward pitch because if it's dropped and fumbled it's an incomplete pass, we used to do it with Marshall Faulk

Re: Why do the Rams not sweep or pitch with RB?
True, but I wonder if they struggle with it in practice as well. Not sure.
Mcvay use to love toss plays with TG. KW and BC both struggled with the limited times they did it. So my guess is, toss plays doesn't get the best out of the Rams backs. But that's just my guess.

I feel like they are saving things for the playoffs, perhaps this is one of them. I love the power sweep.
In terms of saving things for the playoffs, it seemed that they blitzed a lot more in Carolina.
