How to Win Games

Post by RAMFAN71 »

So this year, we have a legit 1-2 punch with Williams/Corum. KW average 4.7/carry and Corum 6.6/carry yesterday. We had a big lead in 3rd quarter. I know this is all hindsight, but we had the winning formula for the Eagles yesterday. It was working- and with that lead in 3rd, I would go even MORE heavy on the run. Our OL was doing it's job and the backs were on fire. If anything, it would setup a play action shot that would probably work once the D starts cheating up. But man, why can't we play boring, 5-6-7 yard run plays non-stop with a few screens or dunk passes. No flash. just do what it takes to win each game. With both these RBs showing ability, they can be fresh as they rotate in. That's a problem for defenses.

I will add as I did on another thread- we need to TE to be a reliable 3rf down receiver. Where is Fergusen? Hurt? We really need him to contribute. If we are running, why not go 12 man and have him release on a play action when we need short yards on 3rd down? I feel like McVay is trying too hard to get Adams the ball, and it's hurting us sometimes. This is a team game. Spread it out and keep em guessing. Anf God's sake- make them stop the run before we go pass happy.

Excellent post! One of my criticisms against McVay is how easily he gives up on the run even when it is having success. Williams averaged 4.7 and Corum 6.6 yards against the Eagles. They are an incredible tandom yet McVay seems at a loss on how best to get the most out of each of them. Why not use the I formation for short yardage or near the goal line instead of a four-step drop by Stafford? It would be great to see something different from our offense especially in the red-zone where we continue to struggle. 1st and goal against the Titans from the 3-yard line and McVay does not run the ball once; this sequence still has me baffled.

No doubt I concur about McVay not continuing running when it successful. And to piggy back on this Kyren Williams is money on the goal line why the fuck are we throwing a slant pass to Davante when running Kyren is guaranteed to score on 1st and goal from the 3.
