Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
Can not be any more appreciative to his approach to coaching. He really stayed calm at the end with the near calamity. I think that he is getting even better over time.

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
He had a few head scratchers yesterday but they all do. Like the play calls after the first INT. But his are so far less than most of the HC in the league. Maybe all.
There is a video I saw of his 3 play calls leading up to the 3rd n 8 pass to Nacua. Just brilliant……….
He knows his players year n and year out better than anyone in the league. And players will go through a wall for him. A lot to say about that……………

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
Punting from his opponents 40 when leading by 5 points was one of the dumbest decisions I have ever seen.
You are in an indoor stadium.
The difference between a 5 point and 8 point lead is huge.
You claim or believe your kicker is going to be one of the best in the league.
Kick the FG. Be agressive at putting points on the board instead of punting when field position means nothing.
And he’s done this before so he’s never going to learn. It’s surrender punting and it’s just anti-winning.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of McVay homers. Do you actually watch the game or just look at the final score?

I guess they are homers too. Mcvay sometimes get too conservative and other times to aggressive. He has his up and downs, but what the poll shows is that no coach is perfect. Mcvay may not get it right all the time but he gets it right as many as any other coach.

Stats don’t lie. They are what they are. So either the Rams offensive talent is awful and McVay is coaching them to be average, or he’s simply way overrated if the league really thinks that. Which is it?

Stats don’t lie. Oh ok……..
Same team who was a play away from the NFC Championship Game last year and the eventual SB Champ said the 2024 Rams were the toughest team they played……
Some understand the league and know it’s about just getting into the playoffs which McVay does. Like Breer said this morning the Rams again showed their championship DNA late yesterday against Houston……..

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
Again, we’ve been over this before. Field position means nothing when the opponent is going for 7 points.
Whether they start at the 40, or start at the 10, the only way you win the game is by getting them to turn it over on downs before they score a TD. And the Texans proved that later in the game when they got the ball back after the fumble, at around the 13 yard line, and drove it all the way to the Rams 20.
However. If you are only up by 5, and they score a TD. You probably lose.
If you are up 8, worst case scenario they can only tie it.
I listen to all the homers claim Karty is awesome. Ok, then if he is, how do you not trust him to make a 57 yard FG at home indoors? How?
Don’t write some “McVay Appreciation Thread” and claim he’s the best coach/OC in the league when the Rams scored 14 points, at home, indoors and the coach actually made it harder for his team to win by punting from the opponents 40.
Logic and stats. Take your fandom out of it. Just reason with logic and stats. And it’s pretty easy to see McVay isn’t the best OC/Playcaller in the league. Bc honestly if you think he is, and you think he’s coaching up the offense to get mediocre results, then you must also believe that the offensive talent is among the worst in the league. I don’t think it’s the worst. McVay certainly doesn’t he just said the WR corp was the best he’s had. The team scored 14 points. Something is amiss

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
Mc Vay showed he's a complete coach and not just an Offensive mind, like Mike Martz was. An OC would want the points there.
Sean the HC saw that the D was takin care of business, keeping the Texans out of the End Zone all day.
That the Texans needed to get into the end zone to take the game from us. So he punted and trusted his D to finish and they delivered!
Truth is a stats guy and I agree with NorCal, sometimes you have to wonder how many games that poster has watched.

Damn lucky to have McVay as HC and signal caller; he's simply brighter and quicker than most of the HC opposition. You don't need to be a tough guy like the Detroit munchkin.

Punting was the correct move. This idiot thinks a 57 yard Fg is easy to do? Lol.
Also, this the same idiot that keeps hating on Stafford every time, he just directed the hate towards mcvay now.
The same idiot says we only scored 14 points like it is mcvays fault, that huge plays that would set up scores were called back because of penalties and one fumble. I guess that is mcvays fault.
Damn mcvay for fumbling the ball and holding on those plays.
What a freaking idiot.

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
IT DIDNT WIN THE GAME.
Landman creating a fumble at the Rams 18 yard line did. If they score a TD there, the Rams probdbly lose bc McVay didn’t kick a FG earlier when he had a chance.
Pinning them deep didn’t matter at all. Texans drove it down the field anyway.
And are you not a Karty fan? If he’s so great, why does McVay not trust him to put 3 points on the board and take the lead from 5 to 8? Scoring is always better than punting. And a 57 yard FG indoors should be something a drafted kicker should be expected to do.

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
Think about that. If you trust your defense to prevent a TD, then what does it matter whether they start from the 40 or from the 10 with tons of time still left on the clock. You only punt deep like that when there’s so little time left that it makes it’s it near impossible to drive the length of the field. Or if the chances of a made FG are extremely low. A kicker should be able to make a 57 yard FG indoors. There was also tons of time left in fact the Texans got 2 more possessions. And it took a forced fumble on the Rams 18 to secure the game.Rampager66 wrote: ↑September 8th, 2025, 6:43 pm Mc Vay showed he's a complete coach and not just an Offensive mind, like Mike Martz was. It’s damn sad, and a bit irritating IMO, when someone has been 100% refuted in their stance but continues to try to prove themselves right and everyone else wrong……..
The D was playing well. You don’t give the other team the ball at midfield when your D is. 66 said it best McVay is no longer making decisions as a OC but as a HC based on what is actually going on in that particular game. It’s really not hard to understand. 99% does. Can’t help the 1% but hey continue beating that drum………

Exactly. I would want mcvay to kick the Fg if it was a 40-45 yard Fg not a 57 (that even indoors is probably 50-50)

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
It is so funny when he says " a drafted kicker should be able to make a 57 yard Fg indoors ". Lol. He has absolutely no idea how hard and rare 57 yard fgs are. He is thinking it is as easy and as common as a 40 yard Fg. My bet is that this guy doesn't watch a lot of football.NorCal RF wrote: ↑September 9th, 2025, 8:59 am It’s damn sad, and a bit irritating IMO, when someone has been 100% refuted in their stance but continues to try to prove themselves right and everyone else wrong……..

Holy hell so much wrong thereTruth wrote: ↑September 9th, 2025, 8:30 amIT DIDNT WIN THE GAME.
The odds are it helped (punt) win the game. No one play wins a game – even walk-off game winners had a hundred proceeding plays impacting the overall final result. I’m not discounting clutch play in final minutes, but again you sound very simplistic in your evaluation (almost agenda-like lol).
Landman’s punch was huge obviously, but unless you know the Texans finally get into the endzone otherwise, it’s still pure speculation ("won the game"). Of course no Rams fan wanted to see them try thru a continued drive obviously.
So, punting them deep was the right call. It made a team that hadn’t been in the endzone all day make it that more difficult to finally do so. More plays to stop them thru turnover or turnover on downs. Long field harder than short field
Scoring is better than punting, wow brilliant. Missing a FG and giving Houston the much shorter field at that point in the game is better than zero points LOL. 57 yd fg is probably 50/50 with Karty (?). Last play of the game/end of a half etc. you roll with it. At that time of the game though with the defense extremely solid, punt it deep.
Scoreboard baby. I think the Rams left more points on the field than Houston, but who cares. McVay’s (also potential) game winner last pass to Puka was potentially big as well BUT had it been incomplete, sure LOTS of complaints would have erupted. That’s sports. JUST LIKE if Karty would have missed the fg and bad things ensued.
All coaches lose games. Sometimes a perfect play call runs into the oppositions perfect play call, even if pure luck. Things are just magnified in the games most crucial times.
McVay is a top play caller, yes even with only scoring 14 points on Sunday LOL. The best minds in football (coaches) agree, you don’t. Points per game is not the only metric. Wins is the biggest ones…and a coaches influence around the League. McVay is at the very top of all that.

Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread
It is just mind boggling, I guess it shouldn’t be considering……, the pure lack of understanding the difference of 45 yards or in this case 42 yards as it relates to how the D was playing Sunday. He states the punt didn’t win the game but it did. It gave the D more plays if needed to make a play, stop them, and they did. Giving them the ball on the 5 instead of their 47 was huge.brasilrams wrote: ↑September 9th, 2025, 9:22 amIt is so funny when he says " a drafted kicker should be able to make a 57 yard Fg indoors ". And this BS from him on “what no confidence in Karty you homers” well we all know that wasnt the case. You stated well the risk there for any kicker no matter where they were drafted………
