Mike LaFleur calling the offense

Post by bigklein »

Once again a LeFleur-called game is really enjoyable. I know it’s only preseason and Dallas is kind of a mess, but it’s hard to not wonder if McVay might shift things a little this year regarding play calling.

I don't think so....maybe a game or so, but McV loves that part and I don't see him giving it up. It also allows him to blame himself when talking to reporters.

I think he will allow more input from ML during the game though

I know, but if we see lots of slow starts again and repeated 3-and-outs, maybe McVay should let go a little bit. He could always override LaFleur.

Has there been any Head Coach in the NFL that gave up playcalling duties? If so, I don't remember.

There are a few teams that leave the play calling to OC and DC. (I would assume they have input and can override any calls in critical situations.) I believe Eagles operate in this model. I don't think Dan Campbell calls plays either.

I want McVay to continue calling plays.

There has been in regards to HC called plays and then gave up the duties but I can’t recall who off of the top of my head. You look at all who still do. McVay, Shanahan, Reid, Taylor, Stefanski, Miami, Payton. Minnesota, GB, just to name some.

Jeff Fisher gave up play calling duties to Rob Boras! Wow, what a shitstorm that was…

I’m so freakin’ grateful for McVay, but I’ve also really enjoyed LaFleur’s beautifully called games.

Depending how things go this season, I can see us losing at least three, maybe four coaches.

Yes this really worries me although on the other hand it will be because we have a great season.

The article does not say Fisher gave up the playing calling duties to Boras. It says he was not taking them away from Boras that year to another coach.

Fisher was a defensive coach before becoming a HC. He wasnt an offensive coach.

My bad. Sorry. You’re right. He had Shottenheiner and Cignetti as OC’s prior to promoting and sticking with Boras. As HC, Fisher planned during the week with Boras, but Boras made the calls during the game.

Those were ugly times.

Those were ugly times. Fisher’s 3 yards n a cloud of dust trying to win 10-7 was so outdated.
