All a smokescreen IMO. He wants Morris to prepare for both because they are much different…………….DMRamFan wrote: ↑January 5th, 2022, 1:35 pm 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a throwing session Tuesday and is scheduled for a limited practice Wednesday, coach Kyle Shanahan said.
Rookie quarterback Trey Lance will take most of the first-team practice reps as the 49ers determine how much Garoppolo’s injured thumb will allow him to do.
“It won’t be a full-speed practice, so it won’t be as challenging,” Shanahan said Wednesday, via Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com.
Garoppolo will start Sunday if he is near 100 percent, Shanahan said, but the 49ers don’t have a definite answer yet as to what Garoppolo will be able to do.
Shanahan said the 49ers will not announce their starter before kickoff for competitive reasons.
Garoppolo was diagnosed with a grade-3 tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb after the Dec. 23 game against the Titans. He did not practice last week and was inactive for Sunday’s victory over the Texans.

Re: Latest on Gropp
Trey Lance is taking all the snaps due to the Jimmy G injury but still not 100 percent that Trey will start. Me personally I'd rather see a slightly injured Jimmy G but we probably could sack Trey more because he does not get rid of the ball as quickly as Jimmy G. We'll see how it plays out but the running QB's scare me. We have handled Russ most of the time and did ok against Hundley this past week so maybe we'd be ready for Trey and certainly he could implode with turnovers and taking sacks if we put him under some decent pressure. Either way it's going to be McVays time to put up or shut up by defeating his mentor Shanahan-the league as whole has fared better than McVay versus Shanny so it's time for Mcvay to figure this monkey on his back out.....
