Agree and it looks especially awful at the end of halves and when we have forth quarter leads. We seem to play swiss cheese defense and give up gobs of passing yards. Consistently.
Has the "prevent zone" ever worked in the NFL?

“ I realize it needs to be played at times, but it’s not our Defenses strong suit.”
It only should be used with this group at the end of the game up by more than one score with the other team out of timeouts. Absolute only time. To prevent the quick score in that game situation. Our corners are man to man cover corners not zone coverage corners…………….
Yes Morris’s stubbornness to not recognize this is equally as bad as McVay not running the ball when he should…………..

I’m going to give a respectful reply………HellRam wrote: ↑December 26th, 2021, 4:57 pm The issue is more complicated then "zone". Staley runs more zone then virtually anyone Including his time with the Rams. The issue is you lost 2 really good DBs and our ILBs continue to be weak, especially against the pass. For example Darius Williams is a zone CB which is why he had many INTs the last few years. In man teams have gotten at him this year. Including the "man coverage" TD he gave up today.
That said I would like seeing Ramsey shadow other teams opposing WRs more. Especially since we don't have a John Johnson and utility CB like Troy Hill anymore.
The Rams dont enough have enough quality cover players to be a elite defense in my opinion. Regardless of what Morris does.
If our offense can quit turning the ball over in opposition territory. I'd venture we'd be giving up a lot less points.
Yes agree Williams got beat in man to man today on last Minny TD………..
Yes Rams lost two of their top 5 DB’s front last year. But their 2 starting CB’s are still here……….
Williams IS a man to man cover CB. And Staley DID allow these 2 CB’s to stay in man to man most of last season.
Williams showed again today when man to man he is much better then in zone. Was spoken about “live” in game forum today. We saw it after the drive where they were in zone on drive that Cousins threw pick in end zone. Zone the entire drive, they got picked a part, and then the pick. And guess what coverage they were in on pick.? Williams was in man to man, had his guy in blanket coverage, ball was thrown just a tad behind, ball goes up Howard INT.

Simply put tho, didn't you say near the beginning of season that we would have to accept that our defensive backfield would be (overall) a horrible liability all year? (or words to that effect). I'm not seeing that. I'm seeing the points on the scoreboard.NorCal RF wrote: ↑December 26th, 2021, 5:16 pmI’m going to give a respectful reply………HellRam wrote: ↑December 26th, 2021, 4:57 pm The issue is more complicated then "zone". About the only real problem I've seen the last three games are teams scoring late against a prevent - while making teams use up clock late in games when they're behind - yes just a painful (to watch) reality IMO, but it's not unusual. I think our d-backs are making consistent plays relative to NFL defenses.

Horrible liability? No not accurate. I said we would severely miss JJ and we have……..RamPower wrote: ↑December 26th, 2021, 5:26 pmSimply put tho, didn't you say near the beginning of season that we would have to accept that our defensive backfield would be (overall) a horrible liability all year? This secondary is horrible in zone coverage. We have seen this all year and again today. And it was not in a prevent situation accept Minny’s last drive which I already said in another thread that situation was fine. Again the drive where Cousins threw the pick in end zone we were in zone the entire drive until that last play when we were in man to man, they went right down the field, and the score was 7-0 in the first quarter………….
Not intended towards you but I sometimes wonder if we really watched what Staley had Ramsey n Williams in last year……..
