Must read article on mcvay and his handling of offense

Those of you who have called the critics of mcvay haters just read this article. It sums up what I've been saying about mcvay all along and why he must become a head coach and relinquish play call duties.

Not what I'd call an in depth article. Guys like Baldinger who know what they're talking about usually praise the overall design and how McVay attacks a defense. This article is written by a dofus

I agree...plenty of Head Coaches call their own offense

Sorry...I just don't see where they have "figured out" McV…..if the league had the Rams wouldn't score points....it just happens that the Rams have not looked great at times...we also must remember the Rams have lost their starting Running back, starting wide receiver, and starting tight end.....one of the starting wide receivers started the year on another team as well as the starting running back

This and a ST unit that gives away field position and a D that hasn't been scoring and stays on the field way to long.

Despite all of that and the injuries the rams are top 5 in scoring at 27.6

Mcvay isn't the only one calling plays anymore. Stafford can call audibles if he doesn't agree with the call.

So I appreciate the feedback but many legitimate concerns were raised..

1. Mcvays tendencies and how teams know what he's doing because he's too predictable ie rarely running on 2nd down after a 1st down run.

2. Lack of in game adjustments. Is he better yes but not nearly good enough (see all 4 of our losses).

3. No accountability. I realize he's not the only HC who calls plays but it's a valid point that he needs someone like O'Connell to oversee more of the offense.

Scoring only 3 points in the 1st half against the leagues 32nd ranked defense is inexcusable. When seahawks were stuffing 1st down runs in 1st half mcvay never follows with a 2nd down run and we got ourselves into too many 3rd and longs. Again the points in the article to me are spot on. I think mcvay as a head coach would be more effective relinquishing some playcalling duties.

So you don't think the slow start against Seattle was bc the rams didn't practice all week (facilities shut down all week). Mcvay didnt even know who will be active or not until Tuesday morning. Many of the players were coming off of covid and might not have been 100 percent health wise and needed time to get their conditioning on point?

I do, Mcvay gets a pass imo for the slow start vs seattle. It's a division game, which throws all stats out the window.

This ^ Thank-You!!!!

Again it was nothing more than a filler piece by someone just a step above a blogger………

McVay remains one of the smartest offensive minds in the game………

I’m sorry, I just can’t trust any guy named ‘Baldinger’.

Maybe that’s just me though.
What about Baldy? It's his nick name.

I love McVay, can’t think of anyone I’d rather have, and he’s a genius at designing plays, but he is predictable in the sense that even I know he’s going to go for a long pass on second and two after a nice run on first down. It sure wouldn’t hurt to just grind a few first downs out on the ground if your run game is working. Even Martz could switch to a ground pound game at times.
