I think cap restrictions are pretty much going to make it necessary to extend Stafford this offseason to be able to try to retain the free agents that the Rams have and sign their draft class. Donald, Ramsey, Kupp and Woods all restructured this season and pushed their cap hits into 2022. There just isn’t anymore flexibility and the Rams have some key players especially on the offensive line that need to be retained. Giving Stafford a 3-4 year extension would be sensible. He has played well throughout this season even with the mid season hiccup. I think he’s finally buying into the McVay system and McVay is learning how to maximize Stafford’s skills. I think he’s only going to improve with another offseason in the offense and the return of Cam Akers. Rams should extend Stafford regardless of how this season plays out.

I also say yes. Reason is simple. Don't care to start a season with Gardner Minshew as starting QB.

Everything the Rams have done signals that we are on a two year window (this year and next year) and Stafford has a two year contract.

I think the first extension we give Stafford will be for cap purposes next season (think taysom hill fake contract for cap space) but I think we will wait to see where we are to give him a real extension in 2 years.

After all the franchise tag will be available.

Well if Stafford wants to keep winning and do a team friendly deal like Brady does then fine. Has to be a deal that makes the team competitive in free agency and resigning their top players.

He'll have all the bargaining power if we win the SB.... Team has it right now.... and if they go 1 and done in the playoffs again...what to do...

To me, he comes across as the kind of guy who would do a team friendly deal. Just seems very grateful for the living he's earned, and the environment he's in right now. Just my impression.

It all depends on the price. I would think he has a good 4 years left at a minimum. If we can get him for a QB friendly deal then yes. If too expensive we can wait another year. I am not sure there is a rush. I don't think we can get a QB as talented as Stafford for a bit...especially with limited picks in the draft. I agree with the other poster that we dont want Minschew, Cam, or Kirk Cousins after next year. What other options do we have? GB and Seattle may be joining the QB pool as well.

The one option you didn't mention was to trade Stafford. I would assume we could get at least one 1st round pick for him...and probably 2nd or 3rd. It would have to be a high 1st round that would allow to draft a QB early. I am not for this option...but it is an option. It would take 1-2 years to get a QB up to speed. By then, AD and Ramsey are 3 years older.

Sign him during spring of next year for 3 more years. It really depends if you think you can find another QB as good as him for the same price (or cheaper). I don't think you can.
