10:53 AM PT -- Cops tell us Ruggs was behind the wheel, driving his Chevrolet Corvette, when he crashed into a Toyota Rav4 around 3:39 AM. The Toyota caught on fire ... and first responders located a deceased person in the SUV.
Ruggs was transported to a local hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries.
Cops tell us the NFL star showed "signs of impairment" at the scene ... and the 22-year-old will be charged with DUI resulting in death.
10:40 AM PT -- A law enforcement source tells us at least one person involved in the crash has died.
Ruggs' attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld tell TMZ Sports, "On behalf of our client Henry Ruggs III we are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered."
10:27 AM PT -- A source close to Ruggs tells us the NFL'er is expected to be OK. The condition of the other people involved in the crash is still unclear.
Raiders star wide receiver Henry Ruggs III -- the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft -- was involved in a serious car accident in Las Vegas Tuesday morning.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Sports ... 22-year-old Ruggs was in a wreck in the central Las Vegas Valley area around 3:40 AM.

Saw this. I will never understand why people drive drunk. Ever. He has whats coming to him. I feel no pity at all. Some family will be coming home today w out a family member, ever again.
Just call the Uber. And that's just for normal folks.
NFL players are provided with a service by every team, free of charge. And so so few utilize it.
Now some poor family is down one family member. And Ruggs life is essentially over. At 22.

I definitely feel bad for both the victim and Ruggs.
The victim should have the capability of living out his or her life. This is a tragedy and one that could have been easily avoided. There is nothing that can be done to replace or compensate for a life. The family and friends of the victim are dealing with an unthinkable pain right now.
Ruggs is at fault and will need to face the consequences but he is a 22 year whose life is ruined due to a moment of stupidity. I can't imagine living with having killed someone who didn't deserve to die because of my stupidity.

I think we all know Tiger was impaired when he got in that accident in Palos Verdes. Only thing that saved him was lots and lots of money And he didnt hurt or kill anyone else. Thats the issue, too many people w means get away with this.
Wow! It's gratifying that you think this way, of course I'm in agreement with you 100% on this issue.

What a horrible story. Drunk driving... one of the few things you can control and do that takes everything from you.
Reminds me of the Leonard Little situation many years ago.

Blink of an eye…. You’re life can change! You may not be the suspect but you or your loved ones sure the hell can be the victim. Ridiculous! Man had a dream life from peoples standards, a NFL career!

Without doubt a tragedy that took the life of one person, and completely changed the life of two families. Sadly, when someone is impaired, they are just that. Impaired, to make responsible decisions. The main error was driving "to" wherever he was going. If you know you're going to be subject to partying, leave the vehicle home. Make the decision while you're capable of making a rational decision.

My Pop is gone but I heard it so many times - him pointing out that it happened at 3:39 AM and saying ‘See? Nothing good will happen to you at that time’ just clicked into my head on auto-play.

And will be there for a long, long, long time.
I think they said there are 4-6 felonies involved... including gross vehicular manslaughter. speeding over 70 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Loaded Gun in vehicle, double the legal limit of intoxication.. and some other charges.
I was thinking about this, I dont think it matters how good his attorneys are. He is done. There is just NO way you can defend this or even get some of these charges knocked down. Plus, as I posted above... When you drive drunk in NV, and kills someone... there is no possibility for parole. Prison time is guaranteed.
Just about his only play was to try and throw whatever venue he was in under the bus and claim he was overserved.
But, as you say, add in all that other stuff? No one is trying to hear your spin. No judge wants to be the guy that took it easy on you.

ok so let's review what mr Ruggs did the other night.
* driving at 156 mph
* point of impact was at 126 mph
* blood alcohol was .16 ( just freakin crazy )
* oh yeah had a loaded handgun in the car underneath the driver's seat
* accident occurred at 3:40AM
and I have been wondering why he hasn't been more of an impact player for the Raiders since he was a 1st round pick....There is your answer. What on god's green earth are you doing at this time of the night driving???

I just don’t get it. These baby millionaires aren’t smart enough to take an Uber or a Lyft. Or for that matter hire themselves a driver. I hope they make an example of him.
On a side note, i’d be a private driver for any player in the NFL for 100-150K depending on where I was living. It may sound like a bit much, but imagine losing an entire career for something so stupid.

156 mph? Just absolutely ridiculous. I cannot even believe manufacturers are allowed to build, and sell cars with this ability. These new Vettes are way too easy to drive way too fast, and when you put a senseless idiot behind the wheel, this is the results that you get. They should be outlawed. Why on earth should a street car have this ability? Ruggs deserves, and should get several years behind bars.

“ Less than 24 hours after the crash, the Raiders released Ruggs. He has received emotional support from sources such as teammates and former coaches, but there seems little doubt that he is facing a serious prison sentence. One attorney who has defended over 500 DUI cases told Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel that the circumstances are the worst he has ever seen in such cases.”
With the additional charges filed today, he is now facing up to 40 years in prison. This is Nevada, not California. He is not going to walk away from this.
