17 Game Season Now A Thing. Who Is Our Extra Game?

Is this being reported anywhere?
Some teams have to get screwed in this deal. Some poor team is going to get the Chiefs and some team will get the Jets.

Well, it would pretty much have to go better than the last time we played the Ravens, right?

so much for the NFL being concerned about the safety of the players. this is a horrible idea

Correct, and for it to be somewhat fair, all in the same division should be either home or away.

Still think this is a bad idea
Some teams get 9 home games compared to 8 for others could be difference between a 1 seed and bye and a third playoff game.

17 game season, lowering the cap, new TV deals, the NFL will be making big money in the next few years.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a few expansion teams come to the league in a few years

I hear the concerns, but all this stuff is collectively bargained. Not like it was unilaterally imposed on the poor players.

That's a pretty unfortunate 17th game for the Rams, isn't it?
This 17-game schedule is a terrible idea, I'm figuring. Adding a second 'bye' week for each team (which was tried briefly in the early 1990s) would give the league another regular-season weekend without risking further injuries...

17 games. Good idea, bad idea. Who cares (no disrespect to the guys that have another opinion). I honestly could careless if players complain about it. If you want to change it, well... become and owner and cast your vote or go use your degree for what you majored in and dont play in the NFL. Where else could you go in life professionally where you could MAYBE graduate school with a 2.0 GPA, major in sociology, automatically get $2-8M in your bank account immediately after being hired, get a few months off a year AND be in a union?.
Pshhh. No where.
As far as injures, they will happen regardless. This is not a bad idea or a good idea. It is strictly a business decision by the actual owners that sign everyones checks and pay the mortgages. THIS IS A BUSINESS. Owners aren't in this to 'break even'. I believe they are also going to shorten the preseason correct? IMO 4-5 games of pre season is a joke. You can figure out who should make a team after 2 maybe 3 games max.
Plus, you dont think the agents and players are working out ways to make money on the 17th game as well? You are kidding yourself if the players union hasn't already calculated these things out. And who knows, maybe this a ploy by the owners to get the players union to meet them in the middle on something.
I'm all about a 17th game. I mean we are extending another week of professional football guys... where we can get up early on a Sunday put on our 'stretchy pants', slide our feet into those slippers, throw on a loose fitting T shirt (or a Ram jersey) and hibernate in the man cave. Whats wrong w you? Come on now.
This whole post is ridiculous.
1. Football is a billion-dollar business which in turn makes the players millionaire. Not everyone can do what they do. Like it or not, players earn their money; owners aren't just handing money out for fun.
2. Football is a dangerous game, so a player voicing his concerns is warranted. You may disagree, but it is hard not to understand.
3. Nobody wants to do more work for less money. The cap has gone down, which means players overall will be making less and playing more games.
4. Football players are people too.
5. Stop with the stereotypes. Why mention a 2.0 GPA (2.3 or higher is required by NCAA) as if you know the player's GPAs? You have no idea how hard it is to be a student athletic on the level to make the pros.

Then I must say your entire reply is ridiculous. You dont seem to pay attention very well.
But since you got triggered here, I will go ahead and answer each of your rebuttals.
1. Yes football is a billion dollar business. So what? Didnt say not everyone could do what they do. But they are doing something they love and do not need a degree or much of schooling to teach them... For being simply gifted or working their butts off, they can play a game and be paid MILLIONS FOR IT.
2. Yes football is dangerous AND players of course can voice their concerns. Did I say anywhere they cant? Nope. what I said was 'who cares' is MY opinion.
3. Who said they will do less work for less money, they havent even figured that out yet. The union will of course ratify money allocations from what I have read if they do move to 17 games. Or like I said, this could simply be a negotiation tactic for the new agreement coming up. We simply do not know this part of it yet.
4. 'Football players are people too'. LOL. Hmpf?! When did I say they weren't people?. What are you even talking about. This is a business. Every company sets requirements and changes them. Its the way of life. No matter where you work, pay can be adjusted, hours can be shortened or increased. It's called changes and having to adapt. It's called LIFE and BUSINESS.
5. Stereotypes? Dude, TK... Its hard to even reply to you, what are you even talking about? Re-read what I wrote. What I said was "Where else could you go in life professionally where you could MAYBE graduate school with a 2.0 GPA, major in sociology, automatically get $2-8M in your bank account immediately after being hired, get a few months off a year AND be in a union?" MY POINT is
where else in life could you skate through school or not have top grades or even NOT graduate and land big money like what NFL, MLB, NBA ...all pro sports players do right out of high school or a couple years into college?.
TK, come on man. You're better than replies like this.
"I honestly could careless if players complain about it" - DMRamFan
"As far as injures, they will happen regardless" This is easy to say this when you are not getting hurt. The 17th definitely will increase a player's chance of injury.
You are making an assumption that majority of college athletes skate by but in reality most will have to finish school because they won't make the league. That is a stupid jock stereotype.
I understand it is a business and the players as a whole signed a CBA but your post, and I may be wrong, shows a disregard for players as people in my opinion. I got the 'they should be grateful and entertain us' vibe from your post which is why I said they are people too.

One of the universal truths of the NFL is that $$ still beats everything else, even for players saying safety is no.1 priority.

I believe the 17 game season has been expedited due to the Covid situation?
The revenue from the extra game allowed the hit to the salary cap to be less in 2021 and will probably mean a big bump in 2022. This, I guess, is the reward to the players?
Of course, it all revolves around money. It's a huge business.

You also have to look at it this way, If that game means nothing for either team and it doesnt affect your seeding, most coaches (especially McVay) will only sit all the starters.

The best part of this in my opinion is dropping pre-season to 3 games.

Just paving the way for an 18 game season! 17 game season makes no sense except financially! They will push the home field advantage as a selling point which really went out the window with teams playing overseas. It will push the SB into March, better weather for just about every city, more revenue. Less preseason, more season... great for the fans! Players will be pissed but they will be well compensated as usual. And now Goodell expects full stadiums... surprise surprise. All about that mighty dollar

Ideally there will eventually be an 18 game regular season and 2 preseason games.
The preseason games should have been reduced a long time ago.

The AFC teams will be home for the 17th game that has been added this season, and it will alternate year to year.
