Talking heads love the alliteration- he is no genius but may be a more sound overall HC than McVay.

Not sure what coach would be fighting for #1 seed on week 18 after what they have been through this season.

Almost half the starters out with injuries for many games. Also, average QB to boot. What Shanny has done w the Niners is pretty amazing.

Not sure if he’s a genius. But year in and year out, he makes 49ers competitive. He’s a damn good coach.

You know who’s not a genius? … Maduro.

He’s never had a very good QB. Jimmy G. Purdy. Won some this year w Mac Jones. McVay has had way more stability at position.

His Niner teams that went to Super Bowls were more loaded than any rams teams.

Usually seems to have his team jacked for the big games. Rarely lays an egg on prime time...unlike our Rams whom too often are very slow out of the gate...The next man up on the 9ers is incredible, injuries for us often show our lack of depth...Shanahan is much more disciplined in sticking to his game plan and imposing his will...He certainly is less rah rah!

They are playing a last place schedule, but Kudos for playing desire injury bug. What lions did last year was more impressive, until the playoffs

Great point ‘29.

But even w 9ers last place soft schedule, I guess we’re softer…. Why we’re even having to sit here on a Sat ngt concerned about what happens to 9er/Hawks game is downright infuriating.

We should have locked up 1 seed and expecting a game to test our back ups tomorrow, then two week break, to heal up and be ready for a nice home game. But nope, we allowed ourselves to have to fight for the FIVE seed (at best) and most likely looking to travel to Phly next wkend.

I can’t even watch the game tonight honestly. I started but I started to fester and get really annoyed. Who cares who wins tonight. We just have to worry about the bed we made, which is complete horse shit.

Sorry if I’m a jerk tonight. Just super irritated and disappointed in McVay….To allow Chase to stay on as long as he did, THEN to allow Shula and D not trade for at least some more DB help, is insane. But no, we rather let Sean drop $10M on a WR who no one has barely seen ALL SEASON… and guess how many catches this WR has ALL season?… FIVE. That’s it. He’s literally made $2M A CATCH.

😡

Me and you both

I'm also disappointed in Mcvay and Les. This team been so frustrating, starting with the off-season and now with Mcvay being buddy buddy with the ST coach. I think his buddy buddy Shula is getting off easy too.

SF has a 100 mil in dead cap. Their WR1 never showed up. He mixed and matched QBs all year. They lost Warner and bosa. I’m the last guy to compliment Niners and I get that you prob hate them more than anyone, but give me a break if you don’t think he’s an elite coach. And he’s like 2-3 plays away from 2 SB wins.

Be fair.

AJ is good, well above avg. I hate when the LT is out bc Stafford, unlike Purdy, is a statue in the pocket and Rams backup LT shouldn't be in the NFL.

With that said, Shanahan is a very good coach, I heard a lot of Niners fans bash him over the years, but he is good.

Well local writers here just now agree with me:

“ Will the 49ers ever win it all under Shanahan? In yet another crucial game, the team just didn't perform. A lot of it came down to poor offensive playcalling, even though injuries have taken its toll. But setting the tone early by not going for 4th-and-shorts when Seattle was cruising offensively said it all. Shanahan just can't get past that hurdle.”

They are tired of being “fair” with him……..

Yeah many Niners fans and writers doesn't see Shanahan as great as many here see him. I guess it's different being a fan of a team that Shanahan coaches then it is being a fan of a opposing team. Same with Mcvay. For the most part, many talking heads love Mcvay, while some here don't think he is as good as many of the media and fans of other teams, see him

He and McVay took over dormant franchises same year. Rams were better off w Goff, Gurley, Donald and an aggressive management while Niners played long game and were built from ground up. Both have been in 2 SBs. McVay has the ring. KS doesn’t. KS has okayed in more conf title games. KS never had Stafford. Or even Goff. This year like McVay in 2023 KS turned chicken shit into chicken salad. We’re going to act like he’s not a great coach?

you are showing your true hatred for the Niners and it's clouding your judgement. Those so called local writers are fuckin idiots. Sorry bro but this team is a freakin mash unit right now. Didn't perform??? They went 12-5....
Out 2 OL....Trent Williams the best LT in the game didn't even play
No Aiyuk for the year/ Pearsall out
Kittle at 60% if that..
Defense...do I really need to get into how may starters are on IR??
And I hate the Niners with a passion but even I acknowledge the fact of what he did this year. You could argue this was his best coaching job ever as the HC of this team
I hate the 49ers with a passion but I at least acknowledge the fact that he probably has done his best coaching job this year....seriously

SF should have lost by a good 20 points tonight, but Shanahan and Saleh have been able to get so much out of their wounded team and backups. Two Myers missed field goals didn’t help. But tonight Seattle was just too strong, and S.F. finally looked beaten up. They just looked done. Also, Shanahan has been really dependent on McCaffrey opening up the offense. That didn’t happen tonight. It almost did, but then the interception happened. Shanahan has done amazing things this year, but Seattle may have done the Rams a few favors tonight because S.F. will be more wounded than ever going to the playoffs. Seattle’s physicality outplayed Shanahan’s smarts. Why can’t the Rams be that physical? Bethune and Winters were both knocked out of the game. Did anyone else think that Purdy wasn’t getting up after his final pass?

No one is questioning their record, their injuries, or the overall job he has done. But the writers here who have followed this team for years are not idiots. They know in big games he has either disappeared with his play calling most of the game or in the 4th quarter. How many SB wins does he have as a HC? When does he become responsible for the answer being zero? Never?……..

And you know what they say about McVay here? 581 total yards last game against Seattle n 37 points with no Adams n most of the game no Dotson. It’s not like the Niners were without their starting QB tonight or their star RB, or their star TE………

173 yards total tonight n 3 points. And not one rushing first down. I think they said first time that has happen to the niners since 1969…….

Rams would still be stuck one one SB win if Shanahan was this teams HC instead of McVay……..

I don’t think the 49ers have any chance vs a physical Eagles team. But it’s still been a solid year for them given the injuries. I think Shanahan has gotten everything out of them but they will need to retool with some younger talent in the coming years

Kittle was playing on one leg...
Yes you can always go back to a SB win with McVay but I am not comparing him to McVay.
It's absolutely ridiculous to sit here and knock this guy because he more than likely won't win a SB this year.
And yes the writers are fuckin morons up there because they are spoiled. They have 5 SB trophies and go back and look at those great teams, very little injuries.

McVay and Shanahan similar and both excellent. In 2023 the rams had zero business being in playoffs. That was IMO more impressive than McVay’s SB year. Likewise this year w KS. Niner beat writer trolls can’t question this year. I thought SF would be a 6-7 win team

No it’s not ridiculous sorry. One can make a damn good debate that Dotson is this teams best OL like Williams is their’s. And I’ll stop you there yep I know Dotson isn’t a HOF n Williams is. But that’s not based on his play the last year or two even though yes he has played well. So shanahan n Lynch also can’t find depth in their OL? I’ll answer that no which has been a complaint up here for a while. But yep I know not Kyle’s fault right………

No one up here tonight is making excuses for Purdy or Kittle………..

I think it's time to stop be concerned whether this or that coach is a genius. Do they win, do they lose, do they get the best or worst out of their players? Those are the concerns.

It's 2026, words don't mean anything anymore. Everybody is a genius, every moment is legendary, every joke gets you dying etc. Hyperbole is the norm.

He's a very good offensive coach for sure, like mcVay (better at culture building than play calling ) but neither of them is a FREAKIN GENIUS

Shanahan will always be the coach that lost to Oatriots in the Super Bowl when they were winning 28-3. He probably learned from that situation but that was an epic loss.
