Jared Verse has disappointed Rams this year

Jared Verse in year 2 has not been a big force for the Rams in 2025 - In a huge spot last night Verse did not seize the moment and affect the game as we had hoped he would. Seems slower & less sudden in his pass rush . Prior to last night he had 6 sacks - not an acceptable # for his talent level. Rams need to look hard before extending Verse to big $$$. While we are at it : a very quiet game from Byron Young as well.

Verse was good last night but very meh , for the entire season . 6 sacks is not acceptable even with all the pressures . He took a step back from last season.

Let’s say he has flashed moments of dominance this year but I was expecting more on the field / pass rush and leadership areas. To the eye his effort seems uneven - particularly in rushing the passer.

Because of his talent level and the year he has had last year he is getting much more attention from DC's this year. Verse is the lynch pin of the pass rush and offenses account for him on every snap

Is he being used properly in Shula's schemes. Remember it was Morris's Schemes last year!

I agree that Verse has not been all that. Given what he showed last season, I expected more. As for Young, I have NO idea what happened to him, tied for league lead in sacks at 9 and from that point has just essentially disappeared. Fiske has also not really seemed to grow as much as one would have expected, add Turner having a bit of a downturn and what seemed like it might be the "core" of the D for years, looks a little suspect. Is it a "them" problem, or a "coach" problem, I can't say, but we may have to change coaches to find out.

Great points GR - expectations are our undoing, are they not ? This core of D talent was held to be a foundation we could build on going forward - contracts for each going forward will be closely linked and we need to get this part right. I thought Verse would be the centerpiece but he has regressed & it could be the manner in which Shula is using him. Young started out like a Pro Bowl player and then ? Fiske may be just what he is showing: solid inside pass rusher who must have somewhat limited reps to succeed. I am a bit of an old school D guy & always thought a true mega sized DT ( several were available in FA ) would have made the entire group much better. Ford has been an asset/upgrade but needs help inside. Lovie has been better of late but going forward contract wise ??? To your key mention : how much of what we are seeing is coaching & use with the entire group ? Guess we will see.

Verse seems to be strictly a bull rusher. He doesn’t have great speed coming of the edge.

As our foundational D player in the front 7 his 6 sacks are not enough - I see the double teams & his pressure numbers but his game effecting play is not what it was last year nor what was expected. Coaching style and what he is being asked to do certainly factors. It will be upon the Rams soon so the key question is what do you re sign him for and for how long ? I do like him and his brute strength style is unique but his real value is the question.

I am still optimistic he will emerge to be a top star . I do remember the young Robert Quinn - what a phenomenal edge rusher he was with incredible bend & speed from the edge. Back injury derailed him later on.

Good comparisons. Last year Verse was kind of the Rams Bobby Boucher. Sometimes he ran a little too wild, though, and would overshoot the target. This year has felt like a transitional year for him in learning to find a sweet spot between being a mauler and being a container. I’m really curious about what he’ll look like in the postseason and next year.

I'm thinking way back to Rams OLB Isiah Robertson, who was NFL Rookie of the Year in 1971, then he had a 'sophomore slump' the following season ('72), only to become a Pro Bowl performer in '73 and pretty much also for the four seasons after that.
Hopefully Jared Verse will follow a similar pattern, 'sophomore slumps' aren't that uncommon in the NFL...
RAM SEASON!!

Gilbert Manzano on si.com is a good writer. Always had Rams top 3 but not as bullish on them as others. Says verse has had a disappointing sophomore year.
Maybe read too many of his press clippings? Because there was a lot of hype about him after postseason.

I think you guys have a unrealistic expectations. Its the NFL. You're not going to have 4 players with 10 plus sacks. Teams can scheme around oppents strengths.
Other than Myles Garrett nobody has more than 13 sacks. This is what sack numbers look like. That said I expected a 10 sack season from Verse. We'll see where he finishes the year at. But the impact is still there.
IT is going to be much less than 10 , 2 games left and he has 6 .
