Jarquez Hunter RB

Hope to see rookie RB Jarquez Hunter get an opportunity to play this season . He has a skill set and running style that is different from Williams or Corum and at the very least the Rams can see what they have/don”t have in this hard running rookie.

Was he elevated? Isn't he on the PS?

He is - saying it would be great to see what he has at some point.

That'll take Kyren or Blake or both going down, so you may have a long wait. Then again maybe not.
Whichever 2 we can win with is good with me.

He’s not on the practice squad. Hope he gets some snaps. Rivers is the only RB on the PS.

Hi RonMac-Good thread BTW,
I am going to play devils advocate and say this was a stupid draft pick because we should have drafted someone in the mold of Derrick Henry (or Cam Scataboo)-who was available when we drafted Jarquez. We really did not need a third running back, with a body type exactly like the two we already have. Cam or "a 6'2' 230 lb type bruiser who can get one yard on 4th and 1.

Jarquez was obviously an insurance move in case they could no resign Kyren. I could care less if he sits on the bench and waits his turn as long as Kyren and Corum continue to excel, I would not trust him in pass protection either.

They did also have the bigger Jordan Waters but didn’t even keep him on the PS. The “sizeism” has been talked about a lot. Still, it would be nice to see what Hunter can do if the offense is not totally dependent on Williams or Corum tomorrow. While those three running backs share several qualities, they are not clones. For example, Corum can’t catch, and defenses now know that.

Rivers was just promoted from the practice squad for week 9 so I would say Hunter will be another game time scratch. But I too would like to see what he has to offer.

Agreed
Rivers play special teams and Hunter doesnt. While I admit Special Teams needs all the help it can get, it would be nice to see Hunter get a few carries, especially if the rams get a comfortable lead.

Nope, nothing. I figured as much. That would have been the perfect game to give the rookie a shot. WTF is McVay's reason for holding him out. If he is that bad, why did we even draft him in the first place? There's a lot of things I will never understand about Wonderboy.

It sure is frustrating. 2 weeks in a row was a great opportunity to give him a look.

Nothing wrong with our tandem right now. Can't see him getting in there unless someone gets hurt- which of course could and probably will happen.

A lot of people thought we should have drafted a CB or OT. In retrospect, the 4th round would have been a good spot to do that. RB3's rarely play and a CB or OT or OC is a bigger need - even if they developed for 2026. "At this point" I'd rather have Shrader at RB3 and a CB who is getting some PT in dime or an OT who is being groomed for 2026.
That being said, I ultimately trust McVay and Hunter could end up being really good and saving our ass if KW or Corum go down.

not sure I agree with your RB3 comment. A lot of teams play 3 i.e. KC...I think a lot of us are pretty frustrated with McVay's use of rookies but obviously nothing we can do about it but sit back and see what happens. You could argue Corum hasn't been used much since being drafted too

Sure, there are exceptions especially because of injury but in the Ram’s case we have not used RB3 at all. I think Pacheco was out with an injury for a while.

Maybe Hunter = fresh legs for the playoff run or postseason?

Hunter is depth just in case Kyren or Corum gets hurt.
Right now Mcvay has a good Kyren / Corum mix going on.

As runners, Corum and Williams seem to be feeding off of each other. One thing that is wrong, though, is that defenses know that when Corum is in, he won’t be thrown to.

I get your point. Corum isn't a threat to make a play in the passing game with those hands of his.
The good news is, the defense still has to put a defender on him if he runs out for a pass. When he is in on pass plays, Mcvay likes using him as a blocker, so the tight ends can go out and make plays in the passing game.

I 100% agree. I was one of those people who wanted a CB. But as far as Hunter goes, why aren't we getting him some reps in garbage time? If he does have to save us, wouldn't it be better for him to have some reps under his belt before being thrust into action due to injury?
I'm no coach and could never accomplish what McVay has at this point in my life but I think it's fair to question some of his decision making at times. I mean he has kept Karty around.

The Niners, who HC loves to run the ball, third string back has 0 carries.
