Stewart, Verse, Young - Let's discuss

It's way too early to project Josiah Stewart's career, but he is off to a great start in limited playing time. If he emerges the way Verse and Young have, the Rams have an interesting dilemma. Contract extensions for Young, Puka Nacua and Kobie Turner are approaching. Do the Rams let Young walk in FA if Stewart is that good? Do they trade Young while his stock is hot? If Young has a monster year, and Verse is so-so, now what? Get rid of Verse if Stewart emerges? Doubtful. Rams can't afford all three, and while there is time yet with Verse and Stewart contracts, a decision is coming on Young. It's a good problem to have and hopefully the Rams make the right decision. Again, we have no idea how good Stewart will be. I'm just speculating here for conversation, and hopefully, injury won't play a factor.

For shitts and giggles let's say Young leads the league in sacks this year, and Stewart records 7+ sacks in limited playing time and he is good against the run. Could we get ANOTHER first rounder for Young? How cool would that be?

If he can actually SET the edge in the running game, I'd say his stock would be pretty high, since neither Young nor Verse seem to have the talent/desire to do so. So far it would appear that Verse's major impact is pressures. He's not a big sack guy so far, his tackling can be spotty, so I'd like to see him take some steps to clean up that part of his game. Young seems to be sort of the opposite, gets sacks, but doesn't create the number of pressures Verse does. As I said, neither is particularly adept at setting the edge and neither are tackling machines.

At the end of the day though, too premature to make any sort of decision. Not enough sample size. It is potentially a nice problem to have .. but as of now, that all it is imo

I think we still have another full season in 2026 to decide and see what happens.. Its not a bad problem to have.

I agree and why not keep that platoon rolling.

It's more of an issue between Nacua-Turner-Young-Dotson who are the big FA's after 2026.

With a new QB potentially on a rookie contract we can easily keep 2 of them and probably 3. Nacua will break the bank for sure but really not sure what Turner and Young will command.

A lot of the top paid Rams will probably come off the books in the next few years too which will create space. Higbee, Hav, TuTu, Dwill, Parkinson, Adams could all realistically be gone after 2026. Kupp, Noteboom, AD, Jonah Jackson will all be off the books in dead money after this year too so we should be in good shape.

Its a really good point... after 2026 we may need to jettison Stafford for cap reasons.
