Beware Coleman Shelton

trust me, I'd rather be wrong than right on this, but here's a guy who the Rams chose not to keep two seasons ago, Chicago chose not to keep him after last season. I think he's smaller and weaker than Limmer, I think letting Willie Lampkin go was stupid

I'm just not sold on this move at all, I hope I'm wrong

Well, I don't imagine anything is firmly set in stone beyond week 1, but, if you look at PFF from last season

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/beaux-limmer/99067

the only grade that was close was run blocking. Shelton was far better in pass blocking and overall scores. In fact in pass blocking, Shelton was 19/64 while Limmer was 57th.

The one pass block advantage for Limmer, which given his grade is odd to say the least, is that he allowed only 1 sack to 3 for Shelton. he also committed 9 penalties to Shelton's 4. I'm of the opinion that a player with a pass blocking grade under 43, yet allows only 1 sack, was benefitting from overall line play.

Looking overall, I'd prefer a third option, but also recognize that Limmer was a rook while Shelton is now 30, so potential upside advantage goes to Limmer. Has he improved, gotten stronger, adjusted his technique, footwork, etc., we'll have to see. If nothing else, having Shelton available is certainly better than some options we've rolled with.

I agree - very aware of the PFF spin on Limmer - put me in the category of those who look beyond just grades they assign - is Shelton does not measure up in PP inside we will know it very quickly & the Rams will be risking their key player. IMO Limmer is a budding talent who is big, tough and smart enough to see his weak spots and improve on them. Here is hoping both of these key players enjoy a solid 2025.

Shelton’s presence, I believe, will elevate Limmer’s game. I look forward to watching this happen.

good replies, I am definitely a PFF guy but to me Limmer's low-grade did not meet the eyeball test, I thought the inside pocket was generally pretty strong for most of the year, I thought he set a pretty good base and did not give up that quick pressure too often

I also thought he was able to match strength pretty good against physical players, I don't feel that way about Shelton

We will find out very soon

C and RT are my big concerns this year.

Not sure what Havenstein has left in the tank,
And Shelton I don’t think is good at all. I would have more faith in Limmer making a 2nd year improvement than Shelton.

AJ I like
Avila should start to come into his own this year.
Dotson is one of the best trades Snead has made. Dotson/6th for a 4th was shrewd.
