I don’t get how things soured so quickly with Paul. You draft him in the 5th round and rave about him when you draft him only to have what appears to be no interest in him 4 months later……………..

Not sure you have caught any of the Bills and Hard Knocks this season... but its actually pretty good... and the crazy part, they (Bills Managements and Coaches) raved about most all their rookies and guys on the bubble... there were like 4 or 5 in the spotlight the show followed... and I thought for sure, at least a couple of them would make the team, but... nope. Not one if the players they followed made the Bills 53.

I guess Coaches and Staff are good at leading us on. I thought for sure Paul would make our 53... especially after we gave up 2 picks, to move up in the draft, to draft Paul here...

Mind boggling a bit.

He was a 5th round pick that didn't work out. What's the big deal? It happens all the time. This just goes to show you that most fans, including those slobbering all over this guy, don't have a clue...lol Wake me when he becomes All-Pro. Our uniforms still suck.

I can understand McVay’s comments about Reeder and ST. As a fan base many will bleep loudly if that unit costs us a game. But film on Paul from college doesn’t lie. The guy was a tackling machine, something this team still needs bad, at that position. And I get if he was that good why the 5th round. But film doesn't lie on Reeder either and no one associates him as a “tackling machine”. So we are saying at the minimum Paul couldn’t become a solid ST player? My bet is he would have certainly been a better ILB than Reeder……………

I don’t know Buffalo’s strengths as it relates to who they cut. But most of us know, we watch this team week in and week out, that we cut a player at a position of weakness and kept a player who has consistently contributed to that position’s weakness.

And who is in here as big of supporter of McVays……………….

I followed Paul closely at Arkansas; he was the real deal.

Not sure what happened, but I suspect there is more to this story.

I'm figuring that Sean McVay may have some sort of a 'blind spot' regarding the ILB position.

Last year at this time he managed to decide that Earnest Jones IV, the Rams' best ILB/MLB since London Fletcher, had to be jettisoned 'for the good of the team,' then of course the position turned out to be a major defensive vulnerability all season.

I'm wondering what Kyren Williams and Blake Corum will be thinking, if/when Jones and Chris Paul Jr. are stacking up their interior running lanes during our team's two games vs. the Seahawks this year...??

Paul's a practice squad player, so there is that...but so, you're convinced signing Dolac was the wrong move over him? All this without the benefit of observing players everyday in camp?

The issue with most is not Dolac over Paul. It is Reeder over Paul………

Agree. Smallish (NFL durability?), but very often in position to deliver the hammer. Easier said than done, and he does it well

Again, I'm not fixated on Reeder like many here are (not saying you are). I'm just in no position to see that as being the easy decision = something about Paul they weren't good with. Regardless, Dolac seems to be the potential fix for an area of need that we all hoped Paul would be...maybe keeping a vet (Reeder) is a locker room move as well idk

That's what I don't understand. ST usually is built for fast and athletic tacklers. Reeder is not any of these things. Should have gave Paul a chance to possibly excel on ST. Not like cutting Reeder would have destroyed the LB room.

Bottom line. 32 teams passed on Chris Paul in the draft until the Rams took him in the 5th round. After he was cut all 32 teams passed on him in the waiver wire. The Seahawks signed him to their practice squad after claiming a 49 ers LB off waivers. The Rams didn’t offer him a practice squad spot. Maybe it’s not Troy Reeder after all. Maybe Rams fans sentiments towards Paul didn’t match what the Rams organization felt about him as they did sign a LB Neal to the practice squad over him. Maybe he was lower on the depth chart that was speculated.

They watched him every day in practice and they obviously saw something they didn’t like. We fans all got excited about him but I’ll defer to McVay and Shula. No other team claimed him and We didn’t even want to sign him to our PS so I’m officially not worried about him anymore.

No, I wanted the Rams to keep both Chris Paul Jr. and Shaun Dolac while jettisoning Troy Reeder, as numerous other posters here were also hoping for.

I'm not claiming to be 100% 'convinced' that keeping Paul over Reeder would've been the correct move, however from what I know I'm certainly suspicious that it would have been... :? ;) :geek:

Good summary... I think they just didn't like what they saw... maybe a personality thing.. they didn't even offer him a practice squad place.. says it all.

Sure that’s fair. I think most/all of us were hoping Paul would become the solid player we haven’t seen in Reeder for the most part.

But some of the best minds in football having had up close evaluations in practice disagreed. Thus, I’m trusting that process and moving on. I’m sure as hell not going to follow Paul with SEA to prove some kinda I told you so vendetta – esp. in a vacuum should the Rams have a good year otherwise (including Dolac). If Paul can move up into game day playing, and Reeder struggles, yeah ok whatever

I haven't taken issue with much that McSnead has done in the past couple of years but this one just doesn't make any sense. I was looking forward to Pooh Paul starting. Now he's cut. I just have a feeling this one is going to bite us bad because now he's with the Hawks with an axe to grind.

You were hoping for Paul to be "good enough" to start. It happens every year. I can remember hoping Sam Bradford would have been good enough too.

Looks pretty bad to trade up for a 5th round pick and then cut him before the season ever starts. Rams, like most teams, seem to give leeway to guys drafted in the first 5 rounds. So this guy must be a problem in the locker room or something.

In the coaches eyes it was Dolac over Paul

I think Reeder always had a spot on this team as evidenced by him not playing game 3 of the pre-season. It also could have been one of the 10 DL guys they kept over Paul don't know.

What I'm pretty sure about is the coaches are way less concerned with losing Paul in FA as we lounge chair GM's are (and include me in that group) in fact I think they were more concerned with Lampkin going to the damn Iggles than they are about Seattle getting Paul IMO

I'm not saying you have, but there seems to be a lot of angst about losing Jones, yet PFF ranks him 108th out of 189 Linebackers last year (142nd on pass defense). One sack, only 13 pressures, although he's good with 94 solo tackles. What am I missing?

I haven’t thought much about Jones. I just thought it was interesting that they’re both in Seattle and with both, unless you’re an insider, we won’t fully understand what went wrong.
