Is Beaux Limmer really safe?

I mean, the guy has played a lot in preseason including 58% last week and 52% against the Chargers. That by itself wouldn't be noteworthy but the other OC, a healthy Dylan McMahon has been comfortably in street clothes and hasn't played a snap in preseason.

If it was truly a competition between the two wouldn't both be out there? Does this mean McMahon is already the #2 OC? I thought Limmer was a rising star after a great rookie year so I'm not sure why he's playing so much.

Zero Playing time in preseason
LT1 AJ Jackson
LT 2 Humphries
LG Avila
OC Shelton
*OC McMahon
RG Dotson
RT Havenstein

Limmer's missed assignments against Carter in the Eagles playoff game may indicate that he doesn't have the ability to make protection calls correctly. I know Eagles' fans were distraught when the Rams poached McMahon. A healthy competition is a good thing.

Limmer may be destined to be a Guard back-up.

His body of work all last season should keep him on the team. He will just get better over time with coaching IMO. The Eagles game was a huge problem and maybe cost us the game- which prob pissed off all the coaches. We seem fairly deep at G now and C too if Lampkin makes the team.

Where would the Rams have been without him last year? He’ll keep getting better. He’s also been playing a lot of guard, so maybe they need to see more of him there.

Will they be able to keep Limmer, McMahon, Dedich, and Bowles? Lampkin got hurt Saturday, so maybe he’ll be stashed via injury.

Well, that's what I was thinking until I realized Limmer was playing so much and McMahon was resting with the starters. The coaches got plenty to look at last year and except for late in the Eagles game he played well. I'm just not sure why he's playing so much if he's a lock.

The only thing that makes sense to me is if McMahon is injured. I did some research and they said he is healthy so I dunno.

I heard somewhere that McMahon was injured. Maybe that's why he isn't playing. Lampkin being hurt may be a blessing in disguise. With as small as the NFL makes the PS, the PUP is another way to stash players. I think with the extra game that has been added, every team should get a boost of 5-10 more players on the practice squad.

Limmer is one of my FAV young Rams with legit potential - seems HC & FO placed huge blame in Philly loss on him - his late blown protection calls that were certainly critical but several other Rams whiffed on plays late in that game as well. If they cut him for the players cited it would really surprise me - and I will be following the level of play of Shelton @ C as it is really debatable he is an upgrade at the position.

Imo he was always safe, but with Lampkin possibly going to IR, he is definitely safe, imo.

Always liked the size/ strength setup inside of Limmer-Avila-Dotson. His PFF grades as pass protector need to improve & his line calls hurt the Rams vs Philly. I see him as a potential foundation OL inside if Pass Pro and line calls improve. We will soon know his fate with the Rams.

love this post, going on the record that i think Limmer is the better option. we chose to let shelton walk in his first stint, chicago let him walk, now we are supposed to believe he's a major upgrade? Limmer will settle in at 6'5 315-320, he's a weight room guy, we didn't have major leaks at center last year, have no choice but to wait and see but i would have appreciated heavy camp competition, it would only make the position better

is mcvay punishing him for the Carter whiff?? i sincerely hope not

I don't view Shelton as an upgrade at all. We know what he can do. Decent run blocker with some holes in pass protect. Very similar to Limmer actually. But Limmer is the future. That Eagles game still makes me crazy to think about. I wanted to kill him. But it's done- it was mental mistake, not that he sucks period. He blew it. Big time. Lets see if the Rams can get past it with him.

They must feel that there are things that Limmer can learn from Shelton through everyday practice. Remember, last year they didn’t really have a center in preseason or the start of the season. They had all of that weirdness with Avila and J Jackson. Thank god for Limmer. Now he has Shelton to help his development. They will push each other. It’s a good thing.

+1. I don't see the upside that others do. He was not very good last year but got big-time hype.
2024
PASS BLOCKING GRADE = 42.9 AVG which was 57th/64 Centers
RUN BLOCKING GRADE = 66.3 AVG - 23rd/64 Cs
PENALTIES = 9 - 59th/64 Cs

Those stats don't tell much of the story for me.

Limmer was just a rookie for starters, and thrown almost immediately into a tough situation. He was hardly surrounded with consistency around him as well, esp. early. What happened to the O-line when he was benched vs the Dolphins?

I think it's been pretty easy to see him making the squad.

This^

One could make the argument he saved the OL last year. Can you imagine what the center position would have looked like last year without him……..

I will say it again, I hate PFF grades. Watch the games n let your own eyes deserts player’s play………

I like him and he's probably our long-term center but I was just worried why he was playing so much. McMahon was on the sideline all preseason and I just read a second place he was healthy. I'm glad Limmer didn't play against the Browns and yes, I think he makes it now.
