Matthew Stafford has been sidelined for nearly four weeks of training camp due to persistent back soreness, an aggravated disc that even necessitated an epidural. His absence stretches well beyond initial expectations, raising concerns over his ability to ramp up in time for Week 1. With the uncertainty surrounding Stafford, how much confidence can the Rams place in Jimmy Garoppolo?

He's a solid game manager. Has flashes of genius at times. We just need Gropp to come in a manage the wins (even though it maybe ugly wins). IMO, I think JG is top 5 in the league as far as backups... so I think we will be fine. But if this becomes a long term issue, might be lucky to make playoffs.

Hoping the Rams have Stafford wrapped in bubble wrap right now ... literally.

My issue with JG is the 4th quarter, especially in big games. He just doesn’t play well late in games and most NFL games are won in the 4th quarter. Will that change with McVay we will see. He can still make plays but his tendency is to fold late. Hopefully if forced to start then the combination of McVay, the weapons on offense, and the D will be enough to where JG’s liabilities won’t prevent this team from winning games.

Stafford 4th quarters………….$$$$$

AND this is why it's so imperative that our Defense is on point, and early. Not like last season where it take those 5 games to figure itself out. We need the D on point and quickly imo. If D can step up, Jimmy just needs to manage the game, TOP and low turnovers... like I said, all wont be pretty and some to close to call, but a W is a W...

At some point QB’s in the NFL need to make plays late. We both know how these games go around the league most Sunday’s. It is why the position is paid what it is.

And this is why I stated IF JG is our guy, we'll be lucky to make playoffs. I agree, he is not the clutch 4th qtr QB like we have in Stafford. He is a game manager than can squeak out more wins than losses... so we shall see.

Just is what it is at this point.

Agree. Not sure if he can squeak out more wins than losses but at this point in his career he is not much more than a QB2 that is better than most QB2 in the league.

It is at this point. It is why again they made the trade with Atlanta for various reasons………….

No question he did play well that game. That example can win games in 25 as long as the last pass is completed…………………

I truly believe the Atlanta trade will be so much bigger than any expects (although us Rams fans saw it in 2016).

In ‘26 two first rnd picks, a second round pick and 2027 first round pic… can just about get you anywhere in draft.

The big caveats are:

Where does Atlanta land? And what teams in front of Atlanta’s pic will be in same boat as us and in desperate need of a future franchise QB… because to me that will be the focus, so I’m just hoping those teams in front of Atlanta’s pic (this is all assuming Atlanta does worse than us, I mean who know IF Stafford goes on IR for season than retires 🤷🏻‍♂️) those teams will be tough to trade up w, but again… not sure I have ever heard of any team rejecting the types of picks I just mentioned we could potentially give up

Just something about two first round pics in same year. That’s such a big deal, I’m not sure some realize this. Major, MAJOR bargaining chip in our favor

Time will tell my friend

My guess is the Falcons will have a better year than last year. Unfortunately for the Rams, I can see them winning 9-10 games...maybe even win the division. They have improved their team from last year. There is still hope that Atlanta will be Atlanta and fall flat, but there is a little more optimism on this side of the country than there was last year. They are in a crappy division which will help them.

This is how much confidence I have in JG.
Garoppolo went 38-17 as a starter for San Francisco and won four of his six playoff contests with the team that including an appearance in Super Bowl LIV in 2019.

We are certainly gonna see. I don't expect #9 to be out there week 1. Maybe the season if he needs surgery. I like JG as our backup. Not sure I would trust Stetson just yet. Just glad we have a very capable vet.

The Rams can certainly make the playoffs with Jimmy. I think that’s more about the division being down but I don’t see a big difference in regular season performance whether Stafford or Jimmy is Qb. Rams are in that 7 wins to 11 wins bubble regardless of who plays QB given the favorable schedule and a defense that should be solid

For I have no worries he is a great QB and the best backup we could have versus the crap we had in the past.
