Is TJ Watt a real possibility?

He would be insane with Verse, and would fix our Below Average DB issues. However I wouldn’t want to pay what he’s asking.

Interesting idea of Verse and Watt, however, we can't piss away our future 1st round draft capital if we want to go shopping for a top QB next season.

Welp, we all know how the Rams love to snag players on the last year of their other team current contracts... I would not surprised one bit.

Shades of the Von Miller acquisition. He played a huge role in our SB win. I'm assuming TJ wants a title and if he wants to come here, he must think we're close. We we're 1 offensive play from the SB last year. He needs to make it worth our while AFAIC or it's a hard pass for me.

That’s what’s I was wondering, would he be willing to take less to come here.

Watts injury history is pretty extensive. Not just nicks and cuts. His knee/s would worry me. Big contract with big injury history. I would vote no unless, contract was acceptable to Rams and not break bank.

Oh geez, I didnt read the article till now after I saw your post and saw "Along with a future first-round pick, the Rams can send Byron Young back in return" I stopped reading when I saw this. Umm, NO FREAKING way do we use one of our first rounders to sign this guy. Like you said, ESPECIALLY when we need to start looking at our new franchise QB next season.

TJ is younger isn't he? not sure I think it is the same but I kinda agree with you. could be past his prime and not worth a 1st round draft pick

As is mostly the case, you and I are thinking similarly.. under this regime the Rams will not likely have the ammo to get a new franchise QB again for a long while... TJ Watt is not worth thar capital.

Yes, 2026 Draft is a very specific, special opportunity for us to get our next Franchise Quarterback. Not that we should "force" anything.
Some other positive news on this.... Current CAP space for 2026 is just under $80M... now, of course this will change... But, the positive thing is that we are in a good spot thus far.

also, our draft order in 2026 has 10 total picks. (which is great for a negotiation to move up to nab our next QB)

1st
1st
2nd
3rd
5th
5th
6th
6th
7th
7th

So imo, with this kind of cap space, and these many picks... I could see us pulling a 2016 all over again. All depends on who lands at the top and who does or does not need a QB.

I am not sure in the past that I have paid so much attention to the next years draft, but boy will I be this season.

Let's hope the Falcons implode, because I see us having a real shot the SB this year, so if we get the 32nd pick and say the Falcons get a top 10 pic, we sure have some fire power to give up both 1st and maybe a 3rd or 5th, to get our next franchise QB... the other big thing about a lot of cap space, is that will allow us to sign some solid vets around the new QB because the rookie QB will be on the rookie deal.

And finally, it really does not matter what Stafford decides (stay or retire), as the cap hit either way is about in the same realm (His Dead Cap (if he walks): $41.9M and IF he stays: $48.3M Cap hit... so, we need him to stick around ONE more season, especially when he can help lead our QB of the future.

No no double no. For once we have 20m to use down the line let's get into the season see who goes down and analyze or CB and Tackles plus other position groups who may suffer an injury. Giving up Byron Young everyone always downgrades him since Verse got here BY has been great I want to resign him we don't need Watt. No disrespect to Watt he is a fabulous player but we had 9 sacks against Minnesota and gave Philly a tough time we added Poona and 3 new options at ILB plus add another full off-season, training camp and a second year together and the defensive front 7 is super solid we don't need Watt.

Del pointed it out perfectly with our list of draft capital let's keep that and use it wisely next off-season for a top T, CB or QB we have the fire power especially if ATL falls apart.

Nah, id pass on a trade for watt, especially with this young, growing defense. Plus, we need all the draft ammo we can get for a QB of future.

watt gets injured
watt is on the wrong side of 30
edge rushing is not our problem at all
all future resources should be stockpiled for QB1
OT AND CB, i'll say it again OT AND CB

At some point Rams have to draft Stafford’s replacement. They are finally in a position to do so with the trade with Atlanta. You don’t now trade away one of the first round picks for a soon to be 31 year old pass rusher. And yes Pittsburgh would want a one for him.

No. Why screw up great chemistry and foundational youth?

I have zero problem when Les pays for elite players in their prime not players on the backside of their career with injuries and will still cost a fortune. Like I keep saying keep our 20m warchest for an emergency or a player or two at the trade deadline or best of all keep it for next off season.

I agree.. gave us a SB last time !!... If TJ can stay healthy and gets us the SB that's great... no use having that money in the pocket and not using it.
