Rams Alaric Jackson’s Health: Did The Rams Overlook Known Concerns?

The team knew Jackson’s medical history, and he passed a physical before signing, suggesting they accepted the risk. Yet, the rapid recurrence of clots, just months after the extension, exposes the gamble.

This latest dilemma is why I preferred to grab the best OT available in the 2nd round as opposed to obtaining a nifty TE.

Stafford must be protected at all costs this season; hope we have the horses in our stable to get the job done.

It seems like very time the Rams re-sign a player with an injury history, it bites them in the ass.
I guess hindsight is always 20/20

Great article! Clarifies A lot. That 35 million in guarantees is killer. Sounds like Rams may be screwed. Hopefully can be managed in time for Jackson to play.

I am somewhat skeptical and you have to be. Honestly I thought Alaric's signing was a little odd. Not typical of a free agent their agent plays games usually. Alaric kept saying all the right things during the contract process I only want to play with Stafford, the contract wasn't drawn out it was fast and fair some felt he could get more this slightly smells like he may have known about the clots and didn't tell the Rams until the contract was done. Obviously conversely it's just bad timing the clots resurfaced a mont or so after the new contract.

Honestly I blame the Rams here. They had to know the chance that the clots can come back and I would have structured the contract accordingly based on the clots. Since I know nothing about the resurfacing of clots after a long protracted treatment like he went through I would think there had to be medical advisors to say pump the breaks on the guarantee noney language or some other way to protect us. I would hate for him to retire and we are stuck with all his dead money. Remember Gurley we sign him to a big new contract and we find out his knees are bad.

Just sayin’
Risk of Blood Clots After COVID-19 Vaccination and Infection: A Risk-Benefit Analysis

We found increased risks of blood clots after vaccination (incidence rate ratio is 1.13, 95% CI: [1.03,1.24] after the first dose and 1.23, 95% CI: [1.13,1.34] after the second dose).

Sure, we all have to weigh the options based on whatever we can access as perceived reliable studies. Vaccines vs covid-19 illness ramification issues for instance.

My point is the contract only. The player imo really earned his contract. I was one of the people constantly praising his play to me it was really solid and was very happy for the resigning. To me everyone jumped the gun the Rams downside needed to be protected. Every team that would have been interested could of done the same thing contractually speaking and it would have been smart. I wish a doctor would go on one of the podcasters and discuss blood clots with Ellenboken or the Rams Brother or DMac so we understand the risk of reaccurance which circles back to the contract.

He signed his new contract March 1, 2025 and he notified the team he felt something before mandatory minicamp which started June 16, 2025 so it was definitely a week earlier so around June 10th.

I think the FO decided they would resign AJ vs going out and using their 1st pick on an OT. Personally I would have signed him and used the 1st pick on an OT vs a TE. Now after reading the one article about his previous blood clot issues that is concerning they would give him that kind of money. Hopefully he will be able to play week 1.

Every vaccine comes with potential side effect even polio, measles vaccines etc... but have saved countless lives.

Just about *every* serious medical treatment carries some degree of risk, however I've never heard of a 'blood clot pandemic,' certainly blood clotting issues have a much higher survival rate than COVID-19... 8-) :!:

Let’s see my first reply in this thread got deleted so I’ll try with the same reply……….

Speaking from experience……….

I’m going to assume once he got his first clot he went on a blood thinner. Whether he stayed on one is the question. My opinion it would have been foolish to take him off and if one did we now see the results of doing so. If they did then he won’t come off off the blood thinners again.

Rams medical staff I trust is all over this. Rams were anll over this with the first clot. Again the question is did he come off of his meds. If yes who made that decision. AJ?

Yes one can get another clot while on the meds but it is rare. The concern is bruising and bleeding which I assume is escalated with someone in his profession.

I agree I got all of my vaccinations starting as a kid and well………

Factor 5 deficiency is the high % reason why many get blood clots. Not other “reasons”. And you are born with “Factor 5” which most are not aware of until they get their first clot.

I’m just saying if he is Factor 5 it explains why he got his first clot……….

Yes I haven’t vaccinated my kids for long gone deseases until they travelled abroad… having said that, I never understood the anti vax movement. The cold hard fact is that vaccination programs stopped killer deseases in their tracks through history from Polio to Tuberculosis to Covid and saved millions of lives. Just look at Covid, it was over within weeks of vaccines being introduced. Although I’m sure bleach could have also been effective :-)
