McVay's history with rookie RB's not good for Jarquez Hunter

Looking at McVay's history, he doesn't really rely too heavily on rookie RB's. Cam Akers got featured the most as a rookie over the last 8 years but that was because we didn't have much talent at RB - the other two RB's were Hendo and Malcom Brown

. Even then, Akers only had 625 yards and 2 TD's. As we saw with Corum last year, it doesn't seem like McVay trusts them until year 2. They might want use Jarquez Hunter in a different role but I'm not expecting him to have a huge impact or impressive numbers in 2025. In addition, I expect to see Corum a lot more and there are only so many offensive snaps in a game.

Gurley rushed for over 1000 yds as a rookie although he missed the first few games after recovering from knee surgery. Made the pro bowl and was offensive rookie of the year.

I think it's simply they picking up the pass protection schemes. They don't have it down, they rarely play. And I think that plays with the QB's lack of escape abilities. Whether that be Stafford or Goff

Yep good point - or they just aren't good at it (beyond scheme). Not every back can slow down a pass rusher. The Rams have the advantage of seeing all this in practice of course. Beyond that, a team doesn't want to tip off plays thru personnel on the field as well. Ya love the 3 down backs.

Word out of camp was KW was going to be a big part of the offense as a rookie, but he got knocked out for the year in the first game of the season.

That could be true especially with Hendo as RB1 but we'll never know. Anyway, my point is I'm not expecting huge numbers from Hunter this year. He would have to leapfrog Corum and be exceptional.
As others have said, I think it's about blocking assignments. Picking up a blitzing LB on Stafford is a huge and consequential responsibility.

That’s the amount of carries that the Rams 3rd leading rush attempt player has gotten the last 3 years. If Corum and Kyren are both on the team you gotta assume Hunter’s impact this year will be minimal.
