Even when Stafford is off the roster in 2027. Stafford still counts as a 33,600 cap hit. This is why it is important the Rams find a good rookie qb in 2026. Good rookie qb can be Stafford backup in 2026 which will allow the Rams to move on from JG salary. The 2026 rookie qb will still be on their rookie contract in 2027 and help offset the money the rams pay toward the qb position overall in 2027.

Looks like Stafford is with us for 3 more years.. this is actually a pretty good deal for the RAMS.. I assume that opens up a bit of CAP space for a splash ?

It's a 2 year deal. 2027 year is a void year (used for cap/accounting purposes to spread out cap hit). Rams will take a 33 million cap hit even though Stafford isn't a ram in 2027.

If by some miracle Stafford plays for the Rams in 2027, what wver he negotiate to get paid in 2027 is added to the 33 million dollar 2027 cap hit.

I'm certainly not a CAP guy But i was actually asking if there is any CAP available this year for a splash ?

Sounds like it may be a done deal and yes probably a low rounder

I'm all for it for one year. Then it's up to us if we want to renew. Would have a robust Secondary. I'm thinking all 3 levels of our Defense will be robust.
Yes i feel like this is going to happen then the only thing not addressed this offseason is OT depth.

Sean McVay says Stafford "made some sacrifices" to remain with the Rams and reports suggest he bypassed larger contracts that were offered by the Raiders and Giants, choosing to stay at home in L.A. where he's already won a Super Bowl.

Sacrifices? 80 million sacrifices? Sacrifice not moving to New Jersey? I am not dumping on the payout. Just don't mention the word "sacrifices."

This right here tells me a few things…

Matt didn’t want to up and move his family.

Also LA does a lot for the Stafford’s post football. I’ve seen it time and time again, many athletes come to LA for this reason, life after football.

I also believe Matt knows out of all the teams he could have gone to, Rams offered the best chances of winning yet another chip. Matt is sold w McVays system. It’s like watching two tech engineer nerds conquer a new code. Matt and Sean live and eat the sport.

I don’t know about you all, but I sure am looking forward to this season. Rams have pretty much plugged the holes from last season, and not only that.., we improved in many areas.

Get excited. Buckle up. ‘25 is gonna be a ride 👊🏼

The one thing that surprises me is how california keeps any professional athlete living in the state. I believe many pro golfers don't live in California and avoid tournaments in California due to the tax situation. In Matts case he must pay a huge amount in taxes or has an excellent accountant.

Where are all the posters that wanted us to release/trade Stafford because he was asking for too much money, wasn't a team player, was holding the Rams hostage, or were even happy with the idea of Jimmy G as our starter? Most of us knew the process would eventually work out. Some of you were saying some pretty nasty things about Mathew. How do you feel now? O ye of little faith.

CAP question for the experts : Why do the Rams continue to have CAP obligations on players in years after they stop playing ? 34 million in 2027 even though it is perceived MS will be done - Why ? Is it due to the way the Rams set up the contractual elements of the entire contract package ? One might think the CAP $$$ hits would end when a player stops performing for a team - any help here guys.

Fair but...I think that's pretty typical regarding fans getting out ahead of a possible key player leaving due to contract issues. I think most wanted him to stay, but as of any player at the right price. Really glad it worked out.

Yeah AD wasn't popular with everyone during his holdouts - but likely a top 5 all-time favorite Ram for fans now. Stafford soon might be as well (seeing him in a Raider uniform wouldn't have helped)

The McSnead Rams keep kicking the can down the road when it comes to overspending. It’s a good thing there’s an owner who can afford to throw away 500 million. McSnead would have been out the door going back to the Gurley payout if there was such a thing as fiscal responsibility.

I always wanted Matt. You know this, but let's also face the facts that the mud that was slung by both Matt and Kelly made things worse. The things Kelly posted and also said on her podcast really bothered me. I realize it's a business and that was their chess moves, but I am a Rams fan first and foremost... and I wasnt a fan of what went on.

That being said and bottomline, we have the best QB room in football. This is a GREAT write up... check it out...

Another cool interview...(yes, it is long, but it is a really good watch.) Talks about his contract, McVay, Cooper, etc. He is one smart, laid back dude, with a great sense of humor. Watch this video if you want to get to know your QB.

Anyone who isn’t happy Matt is returning has no football sense of what it takes to be an elite team.

Bottom line, Matt makes us contenders.

I’d like to also ask, if Matt did retire… is there anyone else out there we could have obtained and or able to afford?. Draft this year for QB’s was abysmal. Any other vet that we could count on getting us back into SB was not available.

Matt just gives us our best shot. So I’ll just say this here and now, SB or bust. This season.
