Has Sean McVay Lost Confidence in the Rams Special Teams?

Post by GlendoraRam »

The Rams are relying heavily on their offense to mask a significant vulnerability on special teams. We all have seen it for several weeks now – and so has the entire NFL.

In the game against the Ravens, with roughly 14 minutes remaining in the contest and holding a comfortable 17-3 lead, the Rams found themselves at the Ravens’ six-yard line on fourth down and three yards to go. Rather than opting for a straightforward field goal that could have pushed their advantage to a commanding three-possession lead—especially with Lamar Jackson sidelined—head coach Sean McVay chose to go for it instead of attempting a field goal. The play failed when Stafford was sacked, resulting in a turnover on downs.

If you take the above example out of context, you could say Mcvay was being aggressive and had confidence in his offense. Put the above example back into the context of the last several games and unfortunate plays (missed 1st down in red zone turning over ball on downs, missed field goals...) I don't know what it shows about McVays confidence in anything. A Superbowl team would have scored a TD let alone a first down, let alone a field goal.

Not sure at this point how any reasonable person could NOT do so. First, keeping anyone AWAY from the kicker is tough for them, and even when they DO manage that, the KICKER is blowing things up himself ..

Just fire Chase and let the new ST coach sort things out.

YES.

Absolutely, especially his quotes on them after the game last wkend.

But that real question should be, what is he going to do about it... I am with Cornell here, I want to see some accountability, Sean

Accountability???
Sean...

Other than Limmer (who deserved it), he hasn't held anyone accountable.

If him and Chase are close buds and he doesnt want to fire him, at least get Chase a vet ST coach to help him out. Chase is drowning, he will more likely be fired after the year and won't have anything positive to show to get a job in 2026. Sean stop allowing the man to drown, fire him or get him some coaching help. A special team advisor.

I don't see how the coach is getting the hit for the players F ups. All he's done is play the hand he's dealt.... He's always the fall guy, I get it!
I got 1 of those hunch's.... that Karty's going to straighten himself out and to come up big for us later in the year.
And for those blaming the ST O-line for all of it, how come punts aren't being blocked?

Chase has had one of the worst special team units since being a ST coach which dates back before the rams.

Fair enough. I was only looking at it from this years standpoint. I wasn't aware of his undistinguished past.
So, If that is the case, then WTF did they hire him for in the 1st place? Buddy System...

I noticed the PK that SF cut earlier in the Season, Jake Moody that was having a spell similar to Karty's..... kicked the winning FG for the Bears @ the Redskins on MNF. They recycle and re promote failure all over the league.
