Slow starts

Post by DelMar »

First off, Kay Adams is an absolute smoke show, and actually gets sports. I like her.

Ok, now to the business at hand. We have discussed much in here about the last couple of seasons and our slow starts.

A lot of this is the usual McVay spin, but at least he see's this. As the last couple of seasons have shown us, it's really tough to get from behind the 8 ball and start playing like a contender in week 6 or 7... that just doesn't work.

Bottomline, if we want the Eagles to come to LA this season for the playoffs, we cannot start slow. I really do believe this season we have the OL and D in place, unlike the last couple of seasons. So imo, there is no real excuse to start slow.

Texans @ Rams will be telling. It would be nice (a girl can dream) if Rams handle this game easily with NO injuries.

Tell me more about your dreams Jack(lyn). Do they have 'ebbs and flows' like what McVay just said?.

Slow starts must be countered with a game plan that is relentless and aggressive; coupled with necessary adjustments througout the entire game. If it is not working, move to Plan B.

We need to devour the Texans, not just beat them. We need to score TDs every time we enter the red zone. Field Goals must be automatic from 45 yards or less. STs need to start generating some yardage. Kyren must not fumble the damn ball; if he does , he sits. We must protect aging Stafford and his back. 12 personnel may be the answer. We need to smash the opposing RB on every down; make him not want to carry the ball.

We could if A. Jackson isn't healthy. But yeah I'm not expecting starting the year to what amounted to an NFL practice squad O-line for starters.

The youth really progressed along with the season as well. And look at what just getting Puka back did for that 1st Viking game.

At this point, I don't see starting this year to resemble anything like we saw early last year. I expect to look more like how we ended the year personally...

Well, I'm hardly expecting this to happen, especially with the Rams' medical question marks at LT and QB, since the Texans have a pretty solid team overall.

However, I will concede that the Texans are one of the relatively few AFC teams which the Good Guys have traditionally dominated.

Still, I would be satisfied with even a close victory, so long as it's a 'W' for our team... :? :x :!:

Commish,

Get on board; we will devour the Texans. MS throws 4 TDs and Verse get 3 sacks.

Yes, I'm a homer; this is our time!

As long as MS back issue is not legit.

I think slow starts are a result of turnover not on only of players but staff as well... We did have a lot of young starters last year and that certainly didn't help... I expect a better start this year... well i hope so anyway.

Well, the Rams already have serious medical concerns at their two most important positions (QB & LT), so the threat of a third-season-in-a -row slow start is quite real, I'm afraid... :? ;) :!:

I'm not sure it matters how we win, as long as we win. Most of those items will make us feel better as fans, but I just want a win.

Some of those things are just a wish list. I think the average for 45 yard FGs is 80%. I would be shocked if Kyren has 0 fumbles this year. I get your point, ball protection is extremely important but the best RBs have a few fumbles. I don't expect perfection from our team. I do expect them to have the ability to overcome their mistakes.

Adams, one of the network's big gets, hosts her own morning show which debuted this week, and recently told the New York Post her exit strategy from NFL Network began last year.

"I knew last year that I wasn’t coming back to Good Morning Football," Adams said. "My contract was up. I didn’t want to renew because I just wanted to try something different."

Ok, devils advocate here...

but as we all know, The Los Angeles McVay Ram Starters do not see the field in preseason... which on one hand, keeps our stars safe from injuries...

But.... I also have to wonder, would we still have these slow starts IF our starters saw at least some action?

Hmmm. Just thinking that if we had more of the first teams playing in preseason at least a qtr, would we have figured out the issues that took us 5 games into the reg season, like last season, sooner?

Agreed. It seems worth the risk to give starters at least a set of downs.

And by this lady... she goes be 'Ashley' and she is known to work absolute wonders.

So I think Matt is doing just fine.

(Let's not tell Kelly about this one)

This is when he should be working on his timing with the offense in general and his receivers in particular, notably the new ones, hmmmm?

Also, doesn't Kay Adams strongly dislike the Rams...?? :( :?:

I think it may have a lot to do with McVay resting our starters during the entire f-ing preseason. These guys need to play some to get up to speed IMO. Even vets start to show some rust when they haven't been on the field for a while. I think our slow starts are due to the fact they haven't had any real game time since the prior year.
