Is this thread a joke? We just played the Super Bowl champs tough and should have beaten them. We just fought through 4 quarters with the 3-0 Colts and beat them. Those two teams are a combined 7-1 which means they can make some of our units look human.

Stafford is off to an amazing start so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about there. He has 1,114 yards 8 TD's, 2 INT, and a 106.1 QB rating. WTF?

The Rams were clearly the better team tonight. That garbage illegal man down field penalty was the difference. I'm not scared of going into Seattle in the playoffs.

They had long overcome the downfield penalty to the tune of 30-14 in the 4th Q with 9 minutes to go after Kobie picked Darnald off on our 1.
ST's let them return our ensuing punt for a TD and it put us on our heels.
A ST's holding penalty on their ensuing KO on Sean Dolac negated Rivers KR to the Rams 49, pushed them back to their 20.
Then a missed 43 yard FG with just over 2 minutes left and 8 consecutive KO touchbacks to the 35.
A punter that averaged a measly 38.8 yards on 4 punts, 3 of them, on consecutive series, in Q 4, who lost the inside the 20 battle 3-1.
Point is, that 1st Q penalty didn't cost us the game. Consistently poor ST's play and weak second half/OT Defense did.
We gave up 31 points in the 2nd half + 1 OT possession.

I always had enormous respect for Rocky Bleier. Drafted into the Army after his rookie season. Then off to Vietnam.
    Awards
    Bronze Star Medal
    Purple Heart
    Combat Infantryman Badge

A four time Super Bowl champion.

“After his rookie season with the Steelers, Bleier was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 4, 1968, during the Vietnam War. He volunteered for duty in South Vietnam and shipped out for Vietnam in May 1969 assigned to Company C, 4th Battalion (Light), 31st Infantry Regiment (Pro Patria), 196th Light Infantry Brigade (Ahead of the Rest) (Chargers), Americal Division, and assigned as a squad grenadier operating a 40mm M79 grenade launcher.”

“On August 20, while on patrol in Hiep Duc, Bleier was wounded in the left thigh by an enemy rifle bullet when his platoon was ambushed in a rice paddy. While he was down, an enemy grenade landed nearby after bouncing off a fellow soldier, he tried to leap over it and it exploded, sending shrapnel into his lower right leg. His right foot was severely damaged in the blast as well. He was later awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His rank was Specialist 4.”

“While he was recovering in a hospital in Tokyo, doctors told him he should not expect to ever play football again. Soon after, he received a postcard from Steelers owner Art Rooney which simply read "Rock - the team's not doing well. We need you. Art Rooney". Bleier later said, "When you have somebody take the time and interest to send you a postcard, something that they didn't have to do, you have a special place for those kinds of people". After several surgeries, he was discharged from the Army in July 1970, and began informal workouts with Steeler teammates.“

The Cowboys have been drafting really well, yet they’ve still underperformed most seasons. It just goes to show that drafting is only one piece of the puzzle. You need solid coaching, a good quarterback, and smart decisions about which players to sign or let go, among other things.

    Yep.

The impressive thing about the Rams last two drafts, is that they helped fill the roster/add starters with quality players = resulting in winning games.

They had a lot of holes following the season after the Super Bowl win, and have been really impressive getting right back to being playoff relevant. It's not enough to fill average/below average players with more of the same...just making up for AD last year was quite the challenge.

Looking back at that game the enormous importance of the game seems almost unfair - we topple far down the seeding list and face nothing but adverse weather conditions as a result of this debacle- seems to me no words can spin it in a positive fashion- Even greater hi lol to climb without Dotsen

    Almost unfair?

    Really?.

Only thing unfair about all this is that we kept the ST’s the same w same coach and haven’t drafted more quality DB help. And that’s not even unfair, it’s just pure stupidly and ignorance (hoping and hoping those two groups would do better the ‘next’ game).

We knew the schedule and locations. Nothing unfair about it. That’s the way the cookie crumbled, especially teams who keep beating themselves. We’re actually lucky ST’s and our D secondary hasn’t blown more games imo.

To me, ST should barely EVER be a factor in winnings game (besides field goals of course) but my point is, ST should never be a factor because of such over all poor play. Our DB group is about the worst there is in many games.

So we put ourselves right where we are. Unfair or not. We are who WE are, as WE beat ourselves.

I honestly believe and have no doubt, if we made the proper adjustments early in dealing w ST and firing that coach earlier AND also making the proper adjustments on Defense before the trade deadline, we would be 15-0 or 14-1 right now, maybe 13-2 at the worst.

Think about everyone of our losses. EVERY LOSS came down to one of these two groups. Every single loss imo

Exactly. What really pisses me off is that we didn’t need much to be 14–1 right now. All that was needed was to fire that idiot in the offseason (or even at the beginning of this season). That alone would have given us a decent special teams unit, and then actively pursuing a solid CB before the trade deadline. That’s it. That’s all we needed.

Instead, they chose to stand still and keep insisting on the guys they already had. They chose to believe Forbes, Durant, and Akhello would improve. They chose to believe Chase would fix all the special teams issues.

Sometimes the truth is right in front of your face, but you choose to see it differently. People running a billion-dollar organization shouldn’t allow themselves to make mistakes like that.

The big CB's always seem to work well for Seattle. Maybe we should steal a page out of their playbook. I'm tired of small CB's and you can add WR's too.

I agree...we need to grab a 6 foot (min) guy who crushed it against real teams in college. This HAS to be our first pick unless nobody fits that bill at 13. I re watched the highlights fro cards game. OMG. Just brutal both Forbes and Akello. Nowhere near their guy on any play. So sad- this is tough to swallow if I'm Stafford. His year, his offense humming. And this garbage may keep us out of advancing. Just shit.

Let's go with what we know. JG knows the playbook, knows the players, is an experienced vet, and has been a winner.

Yes that's the number one role for a backup. JG like him or not, knows the playbook and is ready to go..

Hard no on bringing in anyone to replace JG at this point.

Even if Stafford goes down, I say we ride JG this year.

At this point in the preseason, what other choice could there be? Panicking isn't a viable option, although of course some commentators and fans will likely call for it.

We have to hope that, after practicing as our team's #1 QB for a full offseason and preseason, Jimmy Garoppolo can at least function as a competent 'game manager' performer.

If Stafford can't begin to practice fully by next week, I would recommend the Rams placing him on the Injured Reserve list and committing to opening the season with Garoppolo as their starting QB. What the team *doesn't* need is QB uncertainty on a week-to-week basis, thus I would leave Stafford on the 'IR' list until he's clearly ready to play effectively.

Obviously, this is 'Plan B' in respone to Stafford's medical issues... :? :geek:

  • September 9th, 2025, 9:13 am Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread September 9th, 2025, 9:13 am Re: Sean McVay Appreciation Thread

Think about that. If you trust your defense to prevent a TD, then what does it matter whether they start from the 40 or from the 10 with tons of time still left on the clock. You only punt deep like that when there’s so little time left that it makes it’s it near impossible to drive the length of the field. Or if the chances of a made FG are extremely low. A kicker should be able to make a 57 yard FG indoors. There was also tons of time left in fact the Texans got 2 more possessions. And it took a forced fumble on the Rams 18 to secure the game.

Playing field position and not trusting your drafted kicker to take a lead from 5 to 8 was anti-winning. Flat out. It was stupid.

Dont say the Rams have the best OC/HC in the league when they score 14 points and the HC makes decisions that make it harder to win.

The 2 interceptions changed the game. Without those ints, the Rams would have been up at least 28-10 at halftime. That probably would have taken Carolina out of their run first game plan. Also, I kept waiting for a Bryce Young turnover that never happened. The dude plays like one good game out of every 5 and it had to be against the Rams.

I know a ton of us are somewhat tired of Sean's blabbing after games about how this and that should be this and that ... but I did however find his words just a bit ago here... a step in the right direction...

“It’s why I said what I did to you guys yesterday is because I feel a tremendous responsibility to do a good job of trying to put our players in positions to have successful outcomes,” he said. “When I don’t think I've done that or when I think I've can do better or we can do better, it chaps me to no end. I promise you this, I'm going to work my ass off to make sure that I continue to be better for this group. Those are the expectations that I know that everybody in our building will have. Could he become a Ram? He's not happy with his contract in Cincy and he shouldn't demand a lot of compensation. Maybe we can get him for a 3rd and a 6th. He wants is a long term contract. I think this would be a good pickup if we were able to get a deal done. Him playing across from Verse would be sick.

Not sure where you are getting "he shouldn't demand a lot of compensation". He'd fetch a 1st rounder and maybe more. Also, he's 30 and looking for one more big payday.

I'd revisit a lot of these names being thrown around but only if we are making a strong run at the Super Bowl. I'd like to do a 2025 version of Von Miller and OBJ and hopefully get the same results.

I don’t think he’ll leave yet. Definitely not in 2026. He and McVay have had much more of a partnership than McVay has had with anyone else. He stuck around in less visible positions since 2017, and I see him riding out a young team with long-term potential. Plus, some coaches, like Spags, are at their best on either the defensive or offensive side, not both.

Miami opening has to be enticing though if it comes up... heading back to the perfect season team his granddaddy Don put together... hmmm. BUT, I hope you're right.. I just dont see the current Miami coach making it another season, McDaniels is one weird dude that has been figured out, but we shall see...

I made this video from the last two Rams plays in OT. A few observations:
1.) On the pass to Williams, if the ball was slightly in front, he easily gets the first down.
2.) On the 4th and 1 run, I am shocked at what a poorly designed play it was. The Rams had TWO wide receivers and a TE blocking to that side. Warren McClendon gets buried, Davis Allen gets pushed back.
3.) Even with this, if Williams had any bulk, he would have gotten the first down.

Stunned that McVay would call this play without adding some bulk to that side.
